Title: Good info, butâ¦â¦â¦
Review: Some good glutton free recipes,, but I really resent paying for a book that has recipes that has a box of cake mix as the first ingredient·

Title: Only five original recipes out of the 20 in this collection and one seems to be missing a key ingredient!
Review: Only five recipes that aren't simply reprints from the Betty Crocker gluten free cooking book. The rest are reprints so if you have that book you may want to pass this up. or consider it as a sampler. The list of new recipes NOT already published in Betty Crocker Gluten-Free Cooking are the following:1--Decadent Chocolate Chip Scones uses g free bisquick and looks good.2--Strawberry Muffins uses the bisquick and also looks good.3--Pumpkin Bread ---although the big book has a pumpkin bread recipe that one calls for garfava flour from Jean Duane, while this one in the sampler here uses gluten free cake mix as a base and has no beans in it. And as a side note, this recipe is missing eggs, so I'm not sure if the recipe is accurate, since other recipes such as the two cake mix reccipes from Anne Byrn the cake Dr, call for 3 eggs per pumpkin cake recipe and every other gluten free pumpkin loaf I've seen either has eggs or an egg replacer in it. Do watch out. For a tested and very good pumpkin bread using Bisquick Gluten Free I used the one from Anne Byrn's Unbelievably Gluten Free and was just delighted with it. I made it with the home made Bisquick that I mention in my review of the big Betty Crocker Gluten Free Cooking book.4--Biscuits (plain ordinary Bisquick biscuits!!!) I was amazed the gluten free big book didn't have this. Of all things to miss out in the big cookbook, BISQUICK BISCUITS!! Although the recipe is probably printed on the Gluten Free Bisquick box, General Mills (aka Betty Crocker) hasn't managed to distribute that product so outside the USA you can't get it at all, and even in the USA it's a bit hard to get. Anne Byrne in her Unbelievably Gluten Free book Unbelievably Gluten-Free: 128 Delicious Recipes: Dinner Dishes You Never Thought You'd Be Able to Eat Again states that when she tried this recipe, it wasn't very nice so she tweaked it up. Anne's book is really good btw and if you want more great fast recipes using mixes try it. For a link to find a good home made equivalent recipe for Gluten Free Bisquick see my review of the Betty Crocker Gluten Free cookbook.5--Cornbread is a twist on a golden cake mix and looks like an easy to make version versus the one in the big cookbook calling for 15 different ingredients. To put this in perspective, cornmeal is inherently gluten free, unless it's contaminated in a mill that also mills wheat etc. You can make a perfectly good cornbread using eggs, buttermilk or milk, sugar, cornmeal, salt and baking powder or baking soda with butter. Instead the recipe in the big book called for cornmeal, tapioca, rice, sorghum and potato starch flour in addition to guar gum. It may be nice, but it's also a bit much for a beginner baker to work on. Instead this new sampler cornbread recipe goes back to the Betty Crocker brand roots and gives a cornbread that puts cornmeal with a cake mix and the usual ingredients. Simple, user friendly recipe.A quick side note on using mixes. Most mixes for the gluten free market are generally pretty clean and simple. They don't have complicated chemicals and they turn out fairly well --even better with a few tweaks. This means that with a few mixes in your pantry you can try many different recipes, and figure out what you like best. All without having to buy a series of expensive strange flours and starches, or cope with the fact that sorghum, brown rice, millet, and any other whole grain gluten free flour needs refrigeration and has a limited shelf life.Several good cookbooks use mixes and tweaks to help you into the world of gluten free living. Anne Byrne in the book aboveUnbelievably Gluten-Free: 128 Delicious Recipes: Dinner Dishes You Never Thought You'd Be Able to Eat Again plus The Cake Mix Doctor Bakes Gluten-Free is the best but I do also highly recommend Betty Crocker Gluten-Free Cooking which is the big book that has most of the recipes in this sampler plus a whole lot more. Those are a better use of your hard earned money in my humble opinion. All in all, I'm not sure that this little sampler is worth getting.

Title: I'm sure these are good but...
Review: I will just say these are probably good recipes but each recipe, it seems, called for about 3 different gluten free flours which I don't have. So, I never made anything.
