Title: Science without being unreadable
Review: If you were born with a uterus, Perimenopause Power: Navigating your hormones on the journey to menopause by Maisie Hill is a great introduction to why your body is suddenly betraying you as your approach middle age. This book really breaks down everything aspect of the menstrual cycle, how they change, and why it is important to understanding the symptoms you may be experiencing. It also includes a number of non-prescription methods of dealing with symptoms. It is written in an accessible style and doesn't come across as a reference book.A couple of caveats. Maisie Hill is based in the United Kingdom. She references things available there that may not be available in other countries. She does try to mention some alternative brands that may be more universally available. Something that might be cheap or free in the UK is not necessarily so in the US so do your research! Also, she is a big proponent of using hormones to treat perimenopause but not necessarily through contraceptives. She lays out her case for why it is safer than you think. However, many doctors will still caution you about long term use, especially if you have mild symptoms. Bottom line: find a health professional you trust and work with them based on your unique circumstances to find solutions that work for you.

Review: This book seemed like it contained helpful information, but it was so filled with jabs toward the medical industry and the patriarchy that I couldn’t even finish the first chapter. I just wanted the info and not an op-ed.

Title: Liberal talking points/Foul language
Review: I am sure this book has some good information, but I could not get through the whole thing. Between the buzzwords of sex assigned at birth, blaming the contrived patriarchy for womens problems, and the casual use of the F and B words, I regret using an audible credit on this book. It made me feel anxious.

Title: Useful information, but sometimes gave skewed nutritional advice
Review: "Perimenopause Power" is a women's health book focused on the changes that come with perimenopause. The author started by repeating some of the basics about the menstrual cycle found in her book "Period Power." It has some useful information about the changes that happen hormonally and how that causes changes in our bodies and emotions. She talked a lot about each and every thing that can go wrong (mild to serious) and things that you can do about them. This included advice on exercise, nutrition, herbs, and supplements as well as medication. While I agree with a lot of what she recommended, some of the nutritional advice seemed skewed in favor of eating massive amounts of eggs...like 3 eggs per meal. And she seemed to believe the only vegetable source of protein is tofu. Hardly. She tried to be gender-neutral (referring to "people with a womb" rather than "women," for example). While she provided useful information, I felt like this book would be most useful for women who are having problems since she spent a frighteningly long time on that.I received an ebook review copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley.

Review: In this book, the author goes through the different symptoms encountered during perimenopause, and offering insights into different ways of dealing with them – from food, to vitamins, exercise and the benefits of hormone therapy.I appreciated the straightforwardness and hugely informative way of writing. It didn’t go over my head or was too technical. The author backs up her advice with diagrams and graphics and I applaud her attempt to stop the demonisation of hormone therapy.The other strength of this book is that I felt heard and understood, that many of the symptoms the author describes are not only part of the process but that many treatments and approaches are available to successfully ease the journey. Most of all, she insists on the fact that much too often women are dismissed and misguided when seeking medical help and she empowers each of her readers to stop suffering in silence and seek help for the sake of a better quality of life.
