Customers who enjoy the traditional Regency Romances of Georgette Heyer will enjoy this witty Regency romp by New York Times bestselling author Candice Hern. The Earl of Strickland is a handsome widower in search of a new wife to be a mother to his two young children. Having lost his one true love, he is determined on a practical, dispassionate match with a mature woman. Young girls in their first Seasons, their heads full of romantic notions of love, are not for him. When his sister comes to visit bringing along a beautiful widow, Miles thinks he may have found the perfect match. But the widow is chaperoning her gauche, much younger sister, an artless girl who causes Miles's best intentions to go awry as he finds himself falling in love with precisely the sort of woman he sought to avoid. Set at a grand country estate in the Midlands, this sweet love story of the reserved and dignified Miles and the delightfully guileless, clumsy, outspoken Hannah is sure to charm readers.
"With fresh, crisp characterization and unerring romantic sensibility, Ms. Hern brings to joyous life all the wonder of falling in love in this deceptively simple, impeccably crafted keeper for the heart." – Romantic Times
"This is one Jane Austen herself would enjoy!" -- Rendezvous
"Don't miss THE BEST INTENTIONS. Candice Hern has crafted a joyous, passionate tale full of life and laughter, one that readers will savor long after the cover is closed." – The Romance Reader

Title: A wonderful, wonderful book!
Review: This is the second book in the series, and it was just as good, if not even better than book 1. It had elements of Cinderella and Much Ado About Nothing. It was beautifully written with excellent pacing, wonderful characters, humor, wisdom and charm. Candice Hern is an excellent writer. This book was so enjoyable, I read it straight through. I'm disappointed it's finished, because I loved the characters so much. No one was painted as a cartoon villain. Each character was likable and believable.

Title: Delightful read, classic story!
Review: I just want to say what a delightful read this was! I have been on the hunt for new authors or better yet authors I was not familiar with but I enjoyed and have a nice back list, Ms Hern fit that criteria. You don't have to have read the other book in this series to thoroughly enjoy these characters. There are lovely twists of the unexpected here, the characters are well developed and fun to be with. Enjoy a romp with a lovely Regency writer. I won't even address the 1 star review, Ms Hern's writing does remind me of a modern Georgette Heyer. If I have one complaint it would be that the story ended too soon. I can't wait to read the larger stand alone book from Ms Hern.At this price point it is well worth the money to find a new author or better yet revisit an author you enjoyed. Happy reading now.

Title: Humorous, endearing romance - an entertaining read that will leave you smiling.
Review: Though not normally a fan of large age gap romances, I found that factored in little with this romance and was certainly era appropriate. The couple were endearing and believable. I was rooting for them and just loved the heroine! The level of lust was kept to a minimum as well, which I appreciated, since it allowed true love to keep center stage and be more fully developed. Even the secondary characters were well written and their subplots were also engaging. I found myself hoping there is a sequel for the remaining single characters. I would love to read about them getting paired off. 😉 There were several humorous moments that left me chuckling and some twists to keep things entertaining.

Title: It's in His Kiss
Review: I've read Candice Hern books I liked better. This one was not funny enough to be a farce nor did it have the gravitas to be taken seriously.Hannah, the heroine, an almost 20-year-old bluestocking, is very knowledgeable about architecture, but has no insight into herself or others. Neither she nor Miles, the hero, have any depth. The story is a cute bit of fluff. But, SPOILER: One part of the story seemed to me to be like a Douglas fir grafted onto a Japanese cherry tree. That is "the kiss." Just a passionate kiss, but so poorly written and seemingly grafted onto the story. The H, who initially thought the h was just 16 years old, and the h, who is awakening for the first time to her sensual side, share a kiss that is graphic and almost brutal. Up until that point, the tale was a Heyer-esque tale of personalities. Then this interlude seemed to intrude from an entirely different book. I wasn't looking for a "clean" book and don't object at all to passion, but I do dislike poor, illogical writing.

Title: A diamond in the rough
Review: Again I just love these light romances. This story is about the Earl of Strickland(Miles) who in the previous novel lost out on the lady who he was prepared to marry and be the mother to his children. He has decided to reenter the marrige mart because he knows that his two little girls need a mother and he thinks that he could never find another love like his deceased wife again. His sister(Winifred) unbeknownst to him has invited two ladies to visit with the same thought in mind. The older lady is widowed(Charlotte) with no children and known for her beauty(she's still young-in her late twenties). She is more mature than her younger sister(Hannah) who still acts like a young girl in the classroom but is nineteen. Anyway Strickland's sister feels the widowed sister would be perfect for her brother. The story is funny with all the antics that the younger sister does even though she tries to behave like a lady. In the end all ends up right with there world and was extremely diverting. Perfect book for summer reading

Title: So glad I found this treasure!!!
Review: I happened upon this Kindle book via an emailed "suggested" sales books for me. It was the type of books I like and it was cheaper than I'm used to so I thought, why not?Oh how happy I am that I am an impulse book buyer. I got 1/3 the way through the book and was enjoying it so much (which btw was just 2 days ago) and looked Candice Hern up. She has many books and I discovered this is the 2nd in a little series.I immediately bought the 1st in the series and started to read it, wanting to read the series in it's proper succession. Within the first two chapters I couldn't wait to read that to find out what was happening with Miles and Hannah. Who would Miles choose? Would Hannah fall for George? Would Rachel be a factor? Win? And why does Lord Godfrey constantly repeat himself?Such a treasure this book is and I decided I would not die if I read 2 before 1. It's like dessert before dinner!!! And I bought another Kindle series of hers so I can read one of her series start to last. 🙂 What I thought was a treasure, I believe is just the tip of the iceberg. Her writing is so crisp and clever. I enjoyed every aspect and cannot wait to read more.

Title: Read it - you'll like it
Review: Candice Hern is a wonderful romance writer. This is a well-written novel with a good plot and sub-plot, Her characters are like-able and interesting individuals. The setting is of course England, but a special section of England with unique aspects. There are a couple of kisses and some hints at more intimacy, but nothing overt. It is simply a Very Enjoyable story. Some humor / some pathos/ some misunderstandings/ some surprises and of course some romance. The hero wished for an uncomplicated marriage, but things turned out differently.

Review: Candice Hern has become one of my favourite authors of late. Her style reminds me of Georgette Heyer and her novels make me want to smile all the way through... "The Best Intentions" does not disappoint either. A free spirited and clumsy heroine who bewitches a serious and a little stodgy but very handsome and kind widower who tries with all his might to resist the temptation. I read it in one session and recommend it wholeheartedly.

Review: Commedia romantica di epoca Regency nello stile di Georgette Heyer. Lettura leggera e divertente, spiritosa e "intriguing". Si legge tutto d'un fiato. Lo consiglio per lettrici romantiche.

Review: This is absolutely not a clean book . Or maybe we just don't have the same definition of clean . I don't know why author need to incorporate into their books passionate kiss or sexual tension . It's just really disgusting !!!! The hero was just a beast for me . Maybe the only authors who is capable of writing a clean romance are not from right now but from the old era like Jane Austen etc... Only them know how to write an interesting story with intelligent characters , wit dialogues and a totally clean story without any kiss .

Review: As a recent Kindle owner, I browsed for romance books to take with me on holiday. This book had some good reviews, so although I'd never read her I thought I'd give it a go, and I'm very glad I did.I'd read most of the Georgette Heyer books some time ago, but this reminded me of what I enjoyed about her books. The characters were fun, the plot predictable but engaging, and all in all a great read.I will read this author again.
