Title: An Amazing and Killer Sequel!!
Review: If I hadn’t already been hooked into Kerri Maniscalco’s world with Stalking Jack the Ripper, I was positively ensnared with Hunting Prince Dracula! The title alone hints to vampires, which we all know were my first love from the paranormal world! Knowing this was a historical YA fiction though had me positively enamored with the book before I even picked it up!The events of Stalking Jack the Ripper have shaken Audrey Rose, undoubtedly and she’s not quite on her feet yet, but going to the Academy of Forensic Medicine and Science with Thomas is sure to provide the distraction that she needs. Of course though, their trip is bombarded upon with a murder before they even make it to the school. It definitely sets the course for Audrey Rose and Thomas for the next few weeks. The Academy is the school where she can truly learn her craft in the finest of details. Naturally, though, Audrey Rose is the only female student in attendance and the boys aren’t too fond of having a girl in their class either.Audrey Rose and Thomas soon learn that their semester at the school will actually be spent trying to earn their place in the school. Out of a dozen or so applicants, only two students will be allowed to enroll. The pressure is definitely on. But it seems to take a backseat to the true danger that is happening at the school. More bodies keep showing up. Some appearing as if a vampire had drained them of all their blood, others appear as if they were staked to death, like a vampire themselves. It’s hard to get a grasp on things as the clues are harder to find and the suspect list is pretty big considering there are students, teachers, servants and of course there’s the village nearby. Who exactly is killing the students in such grisly ways? Our favorite detectives will have to work together once again to solve this case.I truly, truly loved this book so much! It was astounding from the very first page and held me entranced to its very end! Not to mention I am a pretty big vampire fan. While my history of Vlad Dracula is pretty sparse, and a bit corrupted with recent movies too, let’s face it, Hollywood can muddle the mind sometimes! And then there’s always trying to figure out what’s actually historical fact in the book itself, luckily Kerri gives some notes on that at the end of the story much like she did with her first book. I was naturally in awe of the liberties she took and what she did with history and turned it into this completely amazing story! This book was far creepier than I expected too! Be aware that it’s not a story for the faint of heart! Truly creeping, crawly (hint, hint) moments and bloody ones too! It’s a book that gave me chills on more than one occasion! But I love a book that can creep me out so thoroughly!Romance, because we have to talk about this tension between Audrey Rose and Thomas! Yes, they shared a kiss last time around and that oh-so-delightful romantic tension that was so strong in the first book continues on here as well! It gets better too, folks! Thomas continues to amuse me! He’s so comical, I love his sense of humor and snark! I love even more that Audrey Rose can toss it right back at him at times. She doesn’t simper away, though let’s face it, Thomas can leave one speechless no matter one’s own snark repartee. The mystery to this one was good! Very good! Once again, I didn’t quite see the whodunit coming. I mean I made some speculations as I went, but when the reveal came I was shocked! Though I was sort of guessing it, literally, moments before it happened! So, I kind of got it? Lol! But yes, very shocking indeed and yeah, still pretty creepy! I loved it!While we don’t know exactly what’s in store next for Audrey Rose and Thomas in terms of their nemesis, we do know where they are headed. So naturally, I am trying to scour my knowledge and come up with a nemesis! I can’t wait to see who it is!Hunting Prince Dracula was a most stunning read indeed! It’s got mystery, creep factors, characters with great snark and personality, plus a heart-warming, toe-curling romance to boot! This is a read that will delight readers all over! It’s nothing short of amazing and I am soooo desperately looking forward to Kerri’s next book!Overall Rating 5/5 stars

Title: because usually with books I find flaws that stick out like a sore thumb and leave me mildly disappointed
Review: Guys, I think I just found my new book boyfriend: Mr. Thomas Cresswell. I know, I know. How can I possibly say that? Julian Blackthorn and Rhysand are scandalized (perhaps not as much as Jace Herondale, though, ammiright? :P).I have so much to say about this book, I hardly know where to start. And that is rich coming from me, because usually with books I find flaws that stick out like a sore thumb and leave me mildly disappointed. But this book (sequel to Maniscalco’s debut Stalking Jack the Ripper in 2016), I can’t even begin to tell you how amazing this book was. And I don’t say that lightly. Maniscalco was brilliant in her plotting and prose in this one. It topped the first in the series, in this stunning sequel that stands out all on its own. There was nothing, nothing, I didn’t love about this book and that is truly rare. The characters jumped off the page, the setting encapsulated me in its gothic frigidness, and I felt like I had stepped into Victorian Romania and Bran Dracula’s/Vlad the Impaler’s castle walls. Needless to say, I finished this book in two sittings and I didn’t even expect to finish it quite so soon. I sunk my fangs into and devoured every. Single. Word. Ravenously.Audrey Rose Wadsworth and Thomas Cresswell continue to be my favorite renditions of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson to date. They are stunning and vibrant and a pure pleasure to divulge and solve crimes alongside. And Thomas’s wicked mouth made it all the more alluring. Can we talk about slow burn? That’s where it’s at, people. And far too many authors these days, especially in the Young Adult genre, fail at the romance. But not Maniscalco. Oh, no. She makes you beg for it. It drove me insane. I wanted Thomas and Audrey Rose to be together more than anything. And you know what else many authors fail to present realistically? Relationships.Things aren’t always going to be smooth sailing when it comes to relationships of any kind, whether they’re romantic or platonic friendships. The tumultuous scenes in this book really nailed the right level of emotion for the characters involved. There was nothing that made me cringe about the scenes or roll my eyes and mouth the words D-R-A-M-A. Nope. Audrey Rose continues to be a mature young woman and keeps her spine straight and shoulders back regardless of what she’s facing. And can we stop to admire this heroine? Audrey Rose is a serious role model. She’s fierce, she’s strong, she isn’t afraid to speak her mind regardless of societal expectations. But she also isn’t a straight rebel. Though there is a lot of late night sneaking around in a dark and creepy castle, Audrey Rose remains a lady through and through. I admire this beyond measure, because somewhere along the line, characters begin to compromise who they are for the sake of their adventures and lose a bit of themselves along the way. I didn’t find that to be the case here. Though there certainly was growth that was occurring in the aftermath of the first book in the series.I highly recommend this book to anyone. It is a clean read, no sexual content or foul language, for those who are curious. It is truly exceptional storytelling and one that will leave you turning the pages at break-neck speed just to find out what happens next!5/5 stars

Title: I love the characters in this series
Review: I have been waiting for this book to be released for months! And I have to wait another year for the 3rd book . . . grrrrrrrrrr!!! Booknerd problems!!! Ok! I love the characters in this series!! Audrey Rose is one of those badass chicks that fought the true feminism fight in a time when women were supposed to keep their mouths shut and their brains turned off. She’s smart, she’s beautiful, and she embraces her differences. I fell in love with her in Stalking Jack the Ripper and I was slightly disappointed with her emotional state in Hunting Prince Dracula, but considering the ending of the first book, I can also understand her fragility. But she pulls herself together and she solves the mystery . . . which caught me by surprise, let me tell you! Then there’s Thomas Cresswell, deduction expert and dreamy scientist. I absolutely love the cute sexual tension and witty banter between the two. There really isn’t anything inappropriate other than typical teenage fantasies, so I would definitely count this safe for teens. Seeing those little things about Thomas that distract Audrey Rose was like watching my husband walk through a room! I loved it! All the flirting between Audrey Rose and Thomas was what I enjoyed most about this book. Not to say that the mystery wasn’t interesting, it was just a little slower than I had anticipated. I couldn’t put Stalking Jack the Ripper down, but Hunting Prince Dracula took me a little longer to get through. But, by the time I finished, the story had all come together, the details fell into place and I was happy. This is an awesome book, part of an awesome series and I seriously can’t wait for the next book! I would recommend this book to anyone looking for historical fiction, a fun mystery, or a strong heroine. I think teens, even as young as middle school, would enjoy this book!

Ele definitivamente me deixou louca pelo terceiro!

Review: This series just keeps getting better and better. Hunting Prince Dracula is the much-awaited sequel to Maniscalo’s Stalking Jack the Ripper, a retelling from the point of view of a high-class young lady with a passion for forensic medicine, named Audrey Rose. Audrey Rose finds herself involved with the various murders of the infamous Ripper and with the help of a fellow apprentice, a devilishly handsome Thomas Creswell. Without spoiling the first book, the second book follows directly from the events of the first, this time the duo finds themselves caught up in yet another murder mystery but rather than hiding throughout the streets of London, the killer is lurking in the shadows of a Romanian castle, the legendary home to Vlad the Impalar, another infamous murderer.I have to say I enjoyed the second more than the first. Although I rated the first book at 5/5 stars I do recall moments where I felt the book slowed down and did drag slightly. With the sequel, however, this wasn’t an issue, I was gripped throughout, the background to the story was perfect for the murderous mystery unfolding, it was the perfect form of horror for me.Audrey Rose has to be one of my favourite fictional characters, she’s strong, fearless and not afraid to stand up to those who try to treat her as though she is unworthy or incapable based purely on her gender (which is quite common with the book being set in 1888) she stands out in a way which is admirable in characters, and despite the growing feelings between herself and another character, she continues to put her own needs first, pushing romance to the back to ensure she succeeds in what she wants.Thomas was as flirty and funny as he always was, I liked the tension between him and Audrey Rose as, despite his attitude otherwise, it shows that underneath he is a true gentleman. I liked how they were both in sync at times, and rather than Thomas attempting to take control and ‘save’ her. I liked how he truly understood her feelings towards forensic medicine and the troubles she regularly goes through while battling to prove that she is just as good as the men around her.I enjoyed the twist in the reveal, I was concerned that after the first book, the second would struggle with keeping people in the dark with the big reveal, but it did not disappoint. Despite the frustration in trying to work out who it was, I loved the surprise that came with the reveal. I can only hope that the series continues to be as surprising since my expectations on what will happen to keep rising as I finish each book.Overall this book was incredible.
