Title: very happy with it
Review: Just arrived, used it immediately, very happy with it. Hefty, which makes cutting a lot easier. The widest area is about 4.62mm provides lot of momentum and strength for chopping. Only improvement is --- It would be better if there is a saya ( sheath) that I could order to fit this deba.

Title: Hefty knife, but wonderful for its intended use.
Review: I didn't know exactly what to expect with this knife. It is heavier than most knives, but has a nice feel. The handle is comfortable and the blade sharp with a right handed single bevel. I suspect it would be hard to use all day because of its pretty hefty weight, but for my use, it is wonderful. I was able to slice paper thin, almost transparent slices of prosciutto. I couldn't be more pleased.

Title: Terrific, but requires serious sharpening out of the box
Review: I love the heft and quality of the steel in the knife. For the price it was a steal! However, to use it properly, a "uraoshi" sharpening on the concave side is required, to avoid chipping when filleting fish. Once I had it properly sharpened, which took about 45 minutes through a progression of 5 stones, it was absolutely wonderful, and the edge has been quite durable through nearly three years of use. Keep in mind that a Deba is a very specialized knife, but it does the job it is designed for quite well.

Title: Great knife, good value
Review: Great knife, good value. Has 4mm thick blade so it has a heavy feel. Back is concave ground just like on more expensive knives. Handle shape is a bit unusual but comfortable to hold. A bit like an octagon shape but with the top rounded off. The maker does not state what type of steel is used and this would be useful information to buyers.

Title: Great Knife But Stains EZ
Review: I just got this knife, used it once on some cheese to test it. Worked great, very sharp. It has a nice weight. Would love to try it on some fish. However, I hand washed and dried it once and the flat side has a series of small rust pits/stains. No way to exchange it either, return only option. Got it on sale so if I return I need to pay more to get another. Bah!

Review: I received a damaged unit. The tip was chipped off. Waiting for refund so I can order again, as this knife has a good weight to it, and a decent blade for the price range.

Review: Overall this is actually a very impressive deba. I'm a bit shocked at how impressive it is actually. All my knives are high end japanese knives and this one would be considered the least of these, but it is at par with most (if not all) of my other knives quality level. The knife arrived very quickly....about a week or so and it was expected to be a few weeks. Why I left one star short of a perfect score has to do with the transaction and not the product. It's bad enough that it cost $22 for shipping....which I was ok with when I purchased the knife; but, when the delivery guy came to my door I owed another $24 for duty fees which I was not expecting at all. So, for a $77 knife, I paid $46 to get it here. $123 total and 40% of it was delivery. I'm not complaining about the $123 as it's really inexpensive for even a mediocre knife....its the surprise of the extra expense and cost ratio.
