Title: Highly useful, very practical, with solid advice.
Review: HEY SONGWRITERS!Mark Cawley was on bass and Charlie Brown was on guitar in my very first attempt to be in a band back in late 1964. At the time I didnât even know how to properly tune a guitar.Mark bought a beautiful Hofner McCartney bass and worked with it hours every day. It did not take long and he was way ahead of the pack. I got a hold of a Gretsch Corsair with a Dearmond pickup. Charlie had a 335 style guitar with an awesome fender amp. We were enthralled with the Beatles, the Stones, and MoTown. So it is no surprise that Mark would eventually pursue an education and then a career in music and become a successful song writer. And now he has released this excellent guide book for those who want to be their best at writing songs. This is a highly useful book, very practical, with solid advice, written by someone who has actually done it through all the thick and thin. This book will be invaluable to any whose goal is to be a successful songwriter.

Title: The #1 book every songwriter must have!
Review: Every songwriter needs this book! I've had many songwriter instruction manuals. Most are extremely boring and filled with ego, vague common sense knowledge, and they are a step by step of what the reader should do. Boring....This book does give you the much needed advice that songwriters all need, but it is also the rare manual that actually gives you amazing advice that will help to release the songwriter within so you can think on your own and build from there. After 30+ years of writing, and having a little success, I am now writing like I never imagined I could. It will take you from simply writing songs, to breathing life into your music.

Title: Great life lessons for creative types
Review: Song Journey is a great artist's-eye perspective of a career as a pop songwriter. Mark invites you along for a ride from the highest highs to the lowest lows as both a musician and writer. He shares his experiences candidly. Many of his rules apply equally to anyone working on their own in any creative field. This isn't a 'get rich quick' guide, but instead a thoughtful reflection on what works and what doesn't, with an emphasis on simple tools and rules to help keep you focused on your creative goals. As someone who dabbles with songwriting as a hobby, I've picked up several valuable tips and techniques that have already influenced how I think about capturing ideas.

Title: Not a Bad Book
Review: It's not a terrible book, but I was searching for something on more of the structural side of songwriting. About 80 percent of the book is just Mark's life as a songwriter and his stories. A gained a few decent tips in the beginning but the book felt like a biography and not a guide.

Title: A Songwriter's Journey
Review: This is a terrific read! I am not a songwriter, but I still enjoyed Mark Cawley's insights into the songwriting business. Mark shares his knowledge and stories of being both a musician and a songwriter. So even if you're not a songwriter, "Song Journey" is a book that might provide ideas for you to use in your line of work.

In addition to sharing many tips and tools for songwriting, Mark generously shares his personal and career and ups and downs, making this much more than a "how to" book. A must read for songwriters!
