Hockey’s golden boy, Gage Arlington, is a world-renowned goalie and lovable jerk who expects his second season playing on the Riverside Reapers to go smoothly. Until his luck changes one game and he sustains an almost-career-ending injury. Now facing three months of recovery time, his sole focus is to get back on the ice. With a (supposedly) foolproof plan, he enlists the help of a certain dance instructor to rehabilitate him, only to find out that she’s none other than the girl who hates his guts and t-boned his car to prove it.
Dance instructor, Calista Cadwell, has been strapped in a never-ending rollercoaster loop her whole life. And when her mother falls terminally ill, she’s left with no choice but to become her brother’s primary caretaker. With a bank account that needs some serious CPR and an insane schedule, her great-sister status seems to be on the verge of tanking. But all her fears come true when she discovers her brother’s being bullied by his hockey teammates. So, when an arrogant, hip-hindered hockey player comes begging for her help, she forms a plan of action.
Gage and Calista strike a deal: she’ll help him with his recovery in return for some hockey lessons for her brother. Over time, clashing heads devolve into clashing tongues, and Calista’s disdain toward Gage begins to change the more she’s with him. However, when Gage’s true feelings threaten to complicate their business transaction, Calista finds herself at a crossroads: does she put herself first and chase after love, or does she become another cog in a family-oriented machine?
Will Gage be able to win the heart of a girl who’s too afraid to love, or will this be the one game he’s destined to lose?
The Cruelest Kind of Hate is a hilarious hockey romance featuring a lovable hockey goalie, a sassy heroine, a deal made between enemies, spice hot enough to make you question your religious values, and a slow journey of mutual healing that ultimately ends in love. It’s the third book in a series, but can be read as a standalone.
The Cruelest Kind of Hate is a dislike to lovers, hockey goalie x dance instructor, black cat x golden retriever, forced proximity, he falls first and harder, banter galore, hockey romance with no cheating, no third-act breakup, and a heart-warming happily ever after.

Title: Decent Read
Review: Honestly, I liked the first book in the Riverside Reapers Series. As the books, went on the timelines became confusing. Like in the first book Aeris and Hayes get engaged after 3 years of being together and in this book Aeris and Hayes are engaged but Gage has only been apart of the team for two years despite the fact that he was in the first book. I wish the Epilogues in the second and third book were a little bit more advanced. Kit and Faye only got a month later and hinted at her being pregnant but in this book sheâs only two months pregnant but again Aeris and Hayes are already engaged - makes no sense. Then Gage and Calista only get a one week later to end off the book. I hope the next book ends better!

Review: Cute. Nothing crazy out of the ordinary that I have read, but this was highly requested on TikTok and I have already read the first book of the series. Calista is a Spitfire and I absolutely loved her attitude. Gageâs kind heart actually made me want to crawl into a ball and die, but Iâm glad theyâre happy. The ending was a bit rushed though.

Title: LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS BOOK
Review: Warning this is one of the better smutty books I've read. I'm a sucker for a good hockey hot jock book, but this one had a little more plot to it with Calista's mom being thrown in there. Definitely made me cry as my dad passed last year so definitely warning about that. But otherwise VERY spicy, very sexy, highly recommended

Title: hockey romance
Review: I really enjoyed this book! It was full of love and support. I love that Gage never gave up on Cali no matter how much reassurance she needed. I love that he took her brother under his wing and became someone so important to their little family. I love that he taught Cali to give herself a break and let herself be selfish after being so selfless for so long.

Title: My Favorite in the Series!
Review: I discovered this book series earlier this year and I am so happy to report that the books get better and better as they go!Tropes/Microtropes:- hockey romance- goalie hero- black cat x golden retriever- enemies to lovers (more hate to love)- he calls her by a nickname- sick comfort/he takes care of her on her period- drunk confession- she takes care of her little brother- spicy!I am a sucker for a hockey romance book but that also makes me very selective of which ones I like and don't like. I love the characters in this series and I have loved following their happily ever afters. Celeste Briars' personal love for romance books is so clearly evident in her writing and her stories. While I will say her writing left a lot of room for improvement in the first two installations of the series, I am so happy she is improving. I do see what people mean when some reviews say that her books come across a little "Wattpad-ey", but I really love picking up those kind of books when I want a quick, fun pick-me-up. Celeste Briars books never fail to give me characters I love, micro-tropes that make me blush and giggle, and a hockey romance to breeze through. There were so many elements and micro tropes in this story and her previous books that only an avid romance book reader would know to include.Of course, I am a sucker for enemies to lovers so I was very excited going in. I came in expecting a simple enemies to lovers hockey romance and left having experienced a heartfelt emotional roller coaster that had me unwilling to put the book down at any point. The banter, the enemies to lovers, the black cat x golden retriever dynamic, swoonworthy confessions, I loved all of it. I loved the way Gage was clearly so in love with Cali, and no matter how closely guarded she kept her heart because of all the things that she went through, he kept fighting for her and proving that he wasn't going anywhere.Normally, I am very skeptical about children in romance books because the authors end up writing them too unrealistically or they end up having little to no personality other that being conveniently there to push the plot forward. However, Teague is absolutely adorable and I loved him! This is a really fun and easy-to-read hockey romance for those looking for a fresh author to pick up. Definitely check this out if you are in the market for a quick and easy read.Overall, I really enjoyed this book. If you want a no nonsense, quick read, then this is the book for you.âï¸âï¸âï¸.75/5 starsð¥ð¥ð¥

Review: â If I thought she was beautiful just simply existing, sheâs even more beautiful when she dances. âSparks fly when she meets the owner of the car, Gage, and who boxed in her car. When he refuses to move his car, she feels like she has no other way but to forcible move it, with her own car.âIâll always be me, but Iâm yours above it all.âShortly after meeting Cali, he gets hurt during a game and is advised to take a couple months off. He is given the idea to attend dance lessons to help strengthen and stretch out his hip, but he gets quiet the surprise when he finds out who his dance teacher is.â My life doesnât make sense without you in it. I wake up for you, Spitfire. I breathe for you. âCali is under a lot of stress with work, getting bills paid, taking care of her younger brother and her mother who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.Gage realizes early on that she is it for him, and he does everything possible to take care of her and be there for her. When I say the man falls, he falls HARD.When she forgets to eat, he is there. When she is battling her monthly visitor, he picks the lock to make sure she is okay and when she has to make hard decisions involving her mom, he is right there holding her hand.Cali takes a little longer to come to terms with how she is feeling about Gage but I loved when she let her walls down but kept the banter. And letâs not forget the spice, Iâm a fan of a man with a fancy peen, especially if he knows how to use it.Their story got me all up in my feels, especially with how Gage bonds with her brother Teague and the relationship that they build. If you want a story with a swoony hero that will do anything for his girl.. this is your next read.

Review: This is the first book I have read by this author and I'm really glad I had stumbled upon it.I really enjoyed this book and I will be reading the other books in the series now to learn about the other characters. I really enjoyed the banter between the main characters and the romance between Calista and Gage was nice. Gage was definitely a softie and he fell first....Hard.Both characters needed each other and it was a found family. I also liked the dynamic that Gage had with Calistaâs younger brother, it was a lovely addition to the story. Overall I would definitely recommend this book.
