Title: Fantastic sharpener. With some time and effort
Review: Fantastic sharpener. With some time and effort, works better than any automatic or guided sharpener I've used. I think the visual of what's happening to the edge is the important part about this working so well. You can see and touch the blade after each stroke if necessary, and you know exactly where everything is. It forces you to pay attention to any nicks in the blade and get them all out on coarse stone before moving on. Plus you know that you've got a nice even edge the entire length of the blade. You can't really see that happening with one of those draw-through sharpeners. Can't shave with my knives after using this, but the kitchen blades work easily on soft tomatoes and I can cut thin wrapping paper without tearing it using my pocket knife. It's a quality knife, but it wasn't quite that sharp from the factory. A brand new pair of scissors won't even do that to this particular paper, so I'm impressed. That knife is more of a utility knife for me, so I'll probably never use it for this, but after sharpening on this tri-hone, I wouldn't hesitate to take it hunting with me as my only blade. It gets them that sharp. As I said, it takes some time and effort, but I like to do this while listening to podcasts (instead of playing solitaire). The methodical process is soothing in a way.

Title: If youre on the fence, just BUY IT!! its amazing!
Review: This system is amazing. if youre on the fence about getting it, just buy it. it comes with 3 different stone which is extremely good value for the price. also, it comes with a great honing solution that really works well (if you run out you can use water). I used just the fine stone on a knife i made (it was already fairly sharp so i didnt need to start at course or medium) and within 15 minutes of using the stone and about 2 minutes of stropping on a leather belt with green compound, it was razor sharp. It will cut hair without even touching the skin. After just a couple minutes it wont split a hair but i have no doubt that if i spend some more time it will. The design is also amazing because the solution (or water) doesnt make a big mess. the shape of the system just lets the solution run down the side into the base and not all around your desk or table. I could sit here forever talking about this stone but you get the point. Just buy it, im 100% youll love it and be super satisfied with the results (if you know the basic concept of sharpening stuff on stones).

Title: Updated 3 months in Good begginer stone on a budget, takes practice for great results.
Review: I am very happy with these stones. I have used them to sharpen up 4 knives so far and I have nothing but good things to say about it but I could use some practice.I've used them to touch up 2 to a nice a working edge, I'm not good enough for shaving sharp but I bet the stone is, and I've also used it to reprofile 2 knives that were to more or less butter knife sharpness, one of them a Buck 119 with a very damaged blade, chips all along it and a broken tip. I was able to reprofile and give it a nice magazine slicing edge and a new tip.The stone again has done very well, I don't have much experience with sharpening so my personal results could be better but i like it and think I could have done worse as a starter set.The set includes 3 stones in a triangle confirgtuion, approximately 400 700 and 1000 grit respectively, it includes a plastic base with rubber no slip feet and also a small bottle of Smiths honing solution. The solution is fine but I used it all with 4 knives and replaced it with mineral oil. After owning for a few months the mid grade stone has fallen off. I attribute this not entirely to bad quality but also my use of mineral oil as a lubricant.Other than that the stones are still decent. If you're just getting started sharpening or need to keep a few knives maintained this isn't your worst option. But it is worth keeping in mind the stones might fall off. I reattached with super glue, and at a certain point your skill may surpass the stones capability. As I understand you can only do so much with a certain grit and the stones go get clogged with debris. I use steel wool, soap and hot water to mitigate this.Additionally for longer or different shaped blades the cutting surface is somewhat small, fhisb is helped with technique and practice but more area is better. It is sufficient for a small pocket knife easily. I've also managed to sharpen and reprofile a larger knives and a hand axe. However doing this is a slow process even with the course stone. But it can be done.

Review: Firstly itâs a very stable device, well made - yes itâs plastic but this means itâs easier to wash than wood. It is designed in a way that means the stones donât contaminate each other when turned. It comes with oil, perfectly good oil, enough to get you up and running but ultimately you will need more. The stones themselves are good if not a bit better than good. The coarse stone is a fairly standard affair but the medium and fine are very good for the money. These are synthetic and natural stones which are good, but they will dish eventually so will need a lap - I have a standard carborundum one that will work fine. The device is well priced, and does what itâs says. Comes with a guide if you need it. Buy a strop and you are done for most sharpening needs. Wouldnât recommend for high wear / high hardness powder metallurgy steels but for the other 99% of your sharpening needs this is a fine set up.
