Title: I like everything about this printer.
Review: I like that set up was easy to follow using the Brother Easy Set Up. Thats a good idea. I read over everything before the printer arrived, so I knew what to expect. I had an extra ethernet port on my router and an extra network cable on hand and I went with setting up that way. I started set up at 1:24pm and was finished & setup was complete at 1:57pm. I checked my printer settings in my pc and it was all there, printed a test page. Get Started With Easy Print put 3 icons on my desktop. I was expecting a big headache. Not so. Didn't happen and I am happy. Over the hill age wise.. Read first. Prepare.I love this printer. It is quiet and prints so fast that I thought it was just getting ready to print when it stopped making noise. Hah~ it was done printing. Holds a lot of paper in the tray. No paper hold tray like I was used to , it just stacks up with popping out and falling to the floor. Nice print. Cool.

Title: A nice printer
Review: While I'm spoiled by the pictographic touchscreen on my Brother MFC–L3770CDW which this printer doesn't have, this printer is nevertheless a very nice unit. Its output is beautiful, as output from a black-and-white printer goes – the blacks are pure and vivid, which they aren't always on my 3770, and it's not a great noisemaker like some printers. The one issue I had in setup was that my Mac seemed to have an outdated driver on it or something that it tried to use to communicate with the printer, causing it to sometimes take 10 or 15 or 20 minutes for the printer to print, and to sometimes not print at all. When I went into the Printers and Scanners pane on the computer, it interestingly showed this machine as a fax but not as a printer. So I started by deleting this machine from the Printers and Scanners pane and adding it back in. This caused the printer to show up as a printer, but I noticed when I did this that the computer did not choose AirPrint as the driver like it had the 3770, but chose some other generic driver...and the print delay/failure issue persisted. So finally I deleted all the devices from the Printers and Scanners pane and added this one back in again, whereupon the Mac did choose Secure AirPrint as the driver and all printing problems were resolved. When connected to wifi, the printer's wifi button lights up a steady green, which is great for letting you know the printer is successfully connected to the network but less great if you plan to sleep in the same room as the printer. My solution for this is to go into the printer's menu and go Network -> WLAN (wi-fi) -> WLAN Enable (I believe it's called) and set that to Off for the night, which causes the green light to turn off, and then to go through the process again and re-enable the WLAN in the morning. This allows me to turn off the green light for sleeping without having to set up the network connection all over again in the morning (entering the password for the network is a bit of a pain on this machine as it doesn't have any form of alphanumeric keypad, so you have to just use the plus and minus buttons on the front to go through numbers, symbols, and the alphabet in sequence until you get to each character you want to enter, which is a bit arduous and time-consuming, so you really don't want to do it any more often than is absolutely necessary). Once it's all set up, however, it's quite the nice printer and if you're in the market for a black-and-white printer, I can recommend this one.Update: I've stopped disabling the wifi to turn off the green light as I've found that, once re-enabled, the connection can behave badly as described above, with way-too-long print times and so forth; nowadays I choose the much less elegant but more effective and less troublesome option of putting something black (e.g., a sock) over the green light at night so the connection will not be broken, which in turn has proven effective in keeping the printer printing as one expects it to. A more elegant solution that would serve the same purpose might be to find a little black plastic cap for...something...that just covers the green-lit wifi button. But you get the idea: your objective is to block the light at night without interrupting the wifi connection so problems don't arise from the latter scenario.Enjoy!

Title: Look no further this is the printer you want
Review: After years wasting my time and money on wireless Canon ink printers (which are all complete garbage) I finally switched to Brother.Brother printer is easy to use. Easy to set up. Has wireless as well as wired and Ethernet connection option. Wires sold separately.Easy to use to print, scan and copy.I upgraded to the latest Eero 6 mesh WiFi router. In the process it made every wireless Canon printer obsolete. The encryption standard of Eero would not allow a wireless Canon on the network. Canon was already garbage but now it really was kick to the curb garbage. Canon were always difficult to get online and connected and so expensive with ink cartridges, that dried up too quickly. This Brother printer has it all. Compatible with new Eero 6. Easy to use and set up. Provides quality prints, scans and copies. Great value for price.Only con is that it’s monochrome. Nothing else.

Title: A very good printer with one exception
Review: Print quality is great with one exception. I have an Excel spreadsheet with 50 rows and 10 columns. The first column uses 2 rows for each day of the month, excluding weekends. I write the data in for each of the days, so the printed sheet at the beginning of the month only contains the dates in column 1, and the rest of the page is empty. At the end of the month, all rows have written entries representing a months worth of data. The empty Excel spreadsheet, except for column 1, which contains 2 rows for each date, when printed out with the “show grid lines” does not print properly. Three grid lines of the 58 do not print, grid lines 12, 25, and 48. This is a small inconvenience. I called Brother, who handed me off to Microsoft indicating it was a problem with the Excel spreadsheet. Microsoft wanted my Credit Card to research this, which I refused to give them. I did not have this problem with the inkjet printer I used until it stopped working, and I have been using this spreadsheet for 7 years, only changing the first day of the month. The other dates, for each row, are calculated from the first date in cell one. There are 2 workarounds. Underline each row, but you have to write smaller. The other is to update the sheet on the computer, and reset it at the beginning of each month. I have tried removing and reloading drivers, changing the print quality from draft, to best, and creating a new sheet. Each one misses printing 2 or 3 grid lines at different positions within the page.

Title: They have awesome telephone tech support!
Review: They have awesome telephone tech support …Which is critical for setting up a tech machine when you’re over 60 years old! What may seem intuitive to young people- it’s just not for older folks! The agent on the phone took his time and walked me through setting up everything and it all works like a charm now. Whereas I previously bought an HP similar printer and couldn’t even get it to scan or print. I tried for 3 hours to get an HP tech agent on phone and never could get a human being period. So I sent HP printer back and got this wonderful Brother printer/scanner!They have unlimited FREE tech support for as long as you own their products. I highly recommend buying BROTHER products.

Review: When my top of the line laser printer broke, I got this one. It’s smaller, lighter, way less expensive, yet has every bit the print quality of my other pricey one. It only prints black and white, but I don’t need color often. If I do I just take a memory stick to a print shop. Way better than keeping 4 different inks on hand.

Review: Like all Brother printers, this one installed at my business in 15 minutes or less flawlessy. I really like it when tech works. This printer operates with native windows drivers and can be managed through the brother driver or Windows with no loss of performance. Operating costs are superb. We ordered an extra drum for only $78 good for 15,000 pages. TN30 Toner Cartridges ring in at a penny-pinching $39 a piece good for 1200 pages each so we ordered 4. They are not gonna go obsolete any time soon unlike our old Lexmark which we just retired due to no toner being available at $175 a non existent cartridge. My older HLL3290CDW also works flawlessly being shuttled between Windows and Linux. The DCP picked up our hidden network without effort. There is just a certain tedious nature to inputting network and key but once you get that done, the rest is history. Well done Brother Canada.

Review: If I turn it on, just leave there, no printing jobs at all, the printer has some high pitch noise. Not very loud, but it's there. Also the build quality gives a cheep feeling, vs the Canon MF4150 printer I had before this one.Otherwise, all good. Happy I can print from even my phone now.

Customers say
