Title: Reminded why I like Brother machines so much
Review: I'm replacing my older brother color laser printer, which has to be 10 years old now. This new model unboxed like a dream. Upon opening the box the first component you come to is the power cord - taped on top so you don't have to go digging for it. The printer just has foam corners around it, and the printer itself is in a lift out plastic bag with handles to make getting it out of the box easy. It's 2 inches smaller overall than my old unit an HL-3170CDW and a couple of pounds lighter. Removed all the tape and retaining papers inside ( note there is one in the paper tray too with an absorbent packet) plugged it in. Set up the wifi and I was printing in a couple of minutes. I got this for making labels for my small business, and it prints on 8.5x11 sticker paper both matte and waterproof without issues. The face side of the paper is upside down in the paper tray just like my older unit. For awhile I was thinking it was our router that was going out, because my old printer will take 5 minutes to spool one page ( in the same room with the router so I think the printer is done for now) but this new one is FAST! I was shocked when I already had a print coming out and I just sent it. This is going to seriously improve my work flow. I'm a Linux user and the software driver installed easily on my older mint 20 laptop that I keep in the shop for convenience. No issues with sending a multi copy document either. I didn't have to go searching for a driver which was nice it was already in the Linux database. Print quality is on par with my older unit as expected, since I print full color labels with white text.

Title: Exactly What I Needed
Review: This printer is truly plug and play. It took me less than a 1/2 hr to print a photo from my phone (which I’ve never done before).Installation and setup: this printer is heavy. The hardest part was getting the thing out of the box. It only had the printer itself and the power cord. If you are planning on connecting it directly to your computer, you will need to buy the cable separately. You have to take off all the blue tape and the orange protective bits, put the cartridges back in, plug it in, load paper, and then connect it to your network. It was a little tedious to use the up and down arrows to key in the network key, but it’s a one-time thing.I’ve previously only had inkjet printers, so I don’t know how it compares to other laser printers, but I’m very happy with the quality of the images. To really put it through its paces, I ran some different types of paper through it and the printing was spot on for almost all of them. I ran some labels through and it had some issues feeding some of the pages, but it did way better than any other personal printer that I’ve had. I kind of anticipated issues because the printer didn’t have a label option for paper type.All in all, I’m exceptionally pleased with this and am super grateful to have quick, reliable, quality printing.

Title: Super Happy With This Printer!
Review: At first when I was printing, the first 10 printouts were streaky and dirty with ink dots, trails and I was surprised and afraid that some of the reviews that I read were true. NOT!This thing prints out color printouts on regular paper just fine!This is NOT a Color Photo Printer. If that's what you're looking for, move along! There's nothing to see here folks!If you're looking for a color printer to print out color documents for your personal use, then you're looking in the right direction.This NOT a true LASER printer. It's an LED Laser Printer. Google it.Is it fast? Nah. it's kinda slow getting started, but once it "Receives the Data" it pumps out the printouts rather aquickly.I use it primarily for printing invoices and Mailing labels to send to my customers and they look great.

Title: Constantly updates firmware to prevent you using 3rd party consumables
Review: After owning this for almost 3 years, here's the verdict: Brother make a good piece of hardware it prints well. But they have mastered fleecing their customers, spreading each new surprise expense out so you get deeper in financially.The printer was great. The toner cartridges it came with weren't massive, but bigger than the "trial" ink cartridges a lot of inkjets come with. Print quality was wonderful. It just worked.But slowly, they ran out. First black, then each color in turn. A couple months apart, so I forget about the pain of buying the last one. I sprung for the high capacity genuine cartridges.First, the genuine, high-capacity magenta started leaving ghost smears. It was getting clumps of toner on the transfer roller in the cartridge. I lived with it.I finally changed all 4 cartridges. I thought I was in the clear. NOPE! Replace the waste toner box now! It costs as much as a toner cartridge from Brother, and unlike the toners, it's not as easily available on Amazon.I finally decided to risk third-party. It's not TONER, it's just the receptacle for the toner that doesn't end up on the paper. It won't affect print quality, right?Ordered a well-reviewed third-party cartridge on here. Finally got around to putting it in the printer. It printed a test page. Cool. I finally diagnosed the magenta cartridge and cleaned the roller of its clumps.Print another test page? NO! Replace the waste toner cartridge! This printer gave me ONE page before rejecting the third party part. It's not even producing the stuff the printer uses!I did some network analysis with my hardware firewall. This printer calls home at LEAST once per day to get updates. It doesn't inform you of this when you hook it up to your wi-fi. It just helps itself to the internet when you're not using it.After some research, it appears that third party stuff works for a while, then stops working. I presume most of the updates to this printer are to disable your ability to use non-genuine consumables.If I replace this waste toner box, it's probably gonna complain about the drums in another month. I'm done. No more caring about the cost I've sunk into this. I don't care that I've got 4 expensive toner cartridges with >75% remaining. Not another dime. I'm deeper into consumables than I spent for the printer. I don't have that many pages through it, even (a few hundred in 3 years).Brother, if you're reading this: get over yourselves. If I ruin my prints with third-party consumables, that's my choice. I regret every dime I spent on your products. I'm done. Your behavior is anti-consumer, and I'm sick of it.I'll go research a printer brand that doesn't combat me to force more of my money into their pockets.

Review: Hace muchos años tuve malas experiencias con impresores de tinta y LASER (tanto a color como blanco/negro) de varias marcas, hasta que me hice de una Brother LASER blanco/negro, con la cual tengo al menos 8 años con ella, por lo que me "casé" con esta marca. Y bien, quise escalar a imprimir a color, y no dudé en hacerme de esta impresora, y estoy por demás contento. Calidad LASER a color, no es mucho mas grande que la Brother que estoy reemplazando; menos, mucho menos ruidosa que mi anterior Brother. La instalación solo fue echarle una ojeada al manual (actualmente poner a funcionar estos equipos es cosa de niños), retirar los flejes y seguros de cada uno de los 4 toner, y solo fue un tanto "complicado" conectarla a la red wifi, dos intentos en automático sin éxito, por lo que la conexión la hice manual, y todo quedó listo. El proceso no me llevó mas de 20 minutos desde sacarla de la caja y ponerla a funcionar, imprimiendo desde mi laptop y mi teléfono móvil, y realizando una actualización del firmware. Finalmente, y una vez comprobado que todo estuviera 0k, le retiré varias etiquetas que tenia pegadas en la parte frontal.
