Slay the calculus monster with this user-friendly guide
Calculus For Dummies, 2nd Edition makes calculus manageable―even if you're one of the many students who sweat at the thought of it. By breaking down differentiation and integration into digestible concepts, this guide helps you build a stronger foundation with a solid understanding of the big ideas at work. This user-friendly math book leads you step-by-step through each concept, operation, and solution, explaining the "how" and "why" in plain English instead of math-speak. Through relevant instruction and practical examples, you'll soon learn that real-life calculus isn't nearly the monster it's made out to be.
Calculus is a required course for many college majors, and for students without a strong math foundation, it can be a real barrier to graduation. Breaking that barrier down means recognizing calculus for what it is―simply a tool for studying the ways in which variables interact. It's the logical extension of the algebra, geometry, and trigonometry you've already taken, and Calculus For Dummies, 2nd Edition proves that if you can master those classes, you can tackle calculus and win.
Includes foundations in algebra, trigonometry, and pre-calculus conceptsExplores sequences, series, and graphing common functionsInstructs you how to approximate area with integrationFeatures things to remember, things to forget, and things you can't get away with
Stop fearing calculus, and learn to embrace the challenge. With this comprehensive study guide, you'll gain the skills and confidence that make all the difference. Calculus For Dummies, 2nd Edition provides a roadmap for success, and the backup you need to get there.

Title: Great refresher!
Review: I'm 39. I took calculus in college (through 3D calc but not DE) and the only thing I remember is basic differentiation like x^2 becomes 2x...I love this book!!! I'm on chapter 8 and have had the book for 3 days (I am not a reader). I've had A LOT of aha moments, either an epiphany of trig I didn't know way back when, or an epiphany because at one point I did know it but 100% do not remember and am learning it for the first time according to my brain. I bought this book because just starting from chapter 1.1 of my college text book was not working. Those math descriptions in the text with their weird math proof language is not something I understood then or now, despite always being one of the best at math. I get math very quickly, but Calc was a huge speed bump. I got behind in it and never caught back up (because it's math, you can't at college speeds.)So for someone who hasn't done any math past the basic 4 functions in 15 years, this book is amazing and I love it. I have to stop fawning over the book now so I can read it. I stopped to write this before I finished this book and forgot to let you know it's definitely worth it for a middle age person who just wants to relearn the maths.

Title: Good for a refresher
Review: I'm taking some classes for the first time in 30 years and couldn't remember what derivatives and integrations were and how to use them. This book helped me refresh my memory after a long time. I don't think it would be appropriate for somebody trying to get a real understanding of Calculus, but it served my needs well.

Title: Excellent! - Calculus Made Comprehensible!
Review: I love science, but I struggle with math. I passed college Calculus but it took me three times to do so.I wish Iâd had this book back then.___Iâm currently working through some nuclear reactor geometry. I realized I needed to review Calculus.I bought this book.It is exactly what I needed!âCalculus for Dummiesâ breaks everything into simple terms, right down to explaining what calculus even is.âCalculus for Dummiesâ opens with a brief algebra / trig review that shows one what they would need to continue through this book.Through a blend of diagrams and descriptions in nice, bite-sized chapters, âCalculus for Dummiesâ explains things in a way thatâs not intimidating. This book is a solid reference for someone new to calculus, or someone looking to gain a better understanding of it. I would recommend it to any student taking calculus, whether highschool or college level. While not a replacement for a course textbook, âCalculus for Dummiesâ would make a perfect supplement to the class material. It makes this esoteric math seem rather fun! That, in and of itself, is a valuable thing as well.

Title: For smart dummies, maybe...
Review: This is not the simplified book I was hoping for. In business school they gave a crash-dummy course in mini-max etc. I was hoping for something similar here, but 100 pages in, the author is still reviewing the math that will be needed to tackle calculus. It is more akin to a compressed high school course than a true dummies book.

Review: Content of this book is excellent. It does as advertised: makes Calculus accessible for the masses. A great resource for students trying to unravel the labyrinth of higher level math, using familiar vocabulary and examples. The book I received came damaged (with the packaging in tact) so something must have happened in the processing. I am confident that Amazon will honour the reimbursement. Still giving it 5 stars for the book itself.

Review: I have only just started but already some concepts are becoming clearer. In one or two cases I have supplemented the explanations by research on the internet. Both taken together help the layman to start to see calculus through the mathematical lens as it cannot be appreciated otherwise. I say this however very much as a novice!
