Title: Broaden your knowledge of great literature!
Review: I really love this book. It has really stirred up my love for great literature. I have set a goal to either read or listen to the audio book of all 100 works. I have approximately 28 books to go on the list. Each entry includes a general description of the story and why it is considered highly as a great work of literature. Then there are several quotes from well-known writers of their opinions of the work. If you are trying to build up a library, here is a great reference work of books to buy. If you don't have a lot of time to read, join Audible.com and get the app on your phone of tablet. If you are a real audiobook junkie and can't afford more than the one audiobook a month on Audible, get the LibriVox app on your phone for free audiobooks that are in the public domain (old!!!) Give this book a try!

Title: It served its purpose for me
Review: I read this book to discover how many of the novels it covers I had already read and how many I ought to read, or want to read, whatever that all means. It is inconsistent in its presentations, occasionally giving far too little information, with recurring spelling errors, and in the case of Ralph Ellison's Invisible Man, with quotes from public figures that perhaps exemplify racism more than anything else. But I found its brief notes thought-provoking in relation to books that I had read, and sometimes quite engaging in relation to books that I have not yet read. So I recommend this to anyone looking for what to read next who appreciates great and significant works of literature. It is certainly a quick route to beef up your reading list.

Title: Excellent reference!
Review: This is exactly what I wanted from the title. A short synopsis of the novel along with comments based on its history and place among world literature. My only disappointment was the extreme lack of any representation of James Baldwin or Toni Morrison. Both of which deserve inclusion.

Title: No Table of Contents - No "List" provided
Review: Well, this was a waste of time. From reading the reviews, it sounded like this was a pretty good list of the best of classic literature. I bought the e-book, so I could use the Table of Contents to check off the books I have already read and mark which other ones I wanted to read and in what order. Instead, each book title is on a different page, so I will still be forced to write up the list myself. (Something anyone could do using the Internet without having to buy this silly pamphlet.) No wonder there's no "Look Inside" page.

Title: I have my next decade of reading lined up
Review: I bought this on a whim and am glad l did. Many old favorites line this list, along with books unknown and books l have heard of but have yet to read. I thoroughly enjoyed the scope of this list, looking at world literature. It isn't just British, American, French, etc, with enough distaff novels listed that even the most erudite scholar will not have read them all.

Title: About As Good As Any Other Such List
Review: I have been assembling numerous such lists of so called "greatest novels". There are many. There is redundancy but there is also many differences. As a self styled student of literature my goal is to read most if not all of these novels. This list is approximately as good as any other such list I have so far seen. But it is all a matter of taste. As an example, "War and Peace" is listed number one. "Les Miserables" is listed at number three. No matter if they are actually number one and three, I prefer "Les Miserablis" to "War and Peace" regardless of whether they should be at number one or number 101."Pride and Prejudice" is listed above "Emma". I prefer "Emma". And I would place all of George Eliot's greatest novels over any Jane Austen novel, even though I do love them.As for Joseph Conrad, "Heart Of Darkness" is ranked above "Lord Jim". Both are fine novels. I have read "Heart Of Darkness" twice, and respectully, I prefer "Lord Jim".In a similar vein, "Tender is The Night" is a fine novel. But it would never occur to me to expect it to be on this list. Similarly, it is incomprehensible to me that "Wuthering Heights" is considered a better novel than either "Crime and Punishment" or "Anna Karenina".Finally, I am half afraid to say this as an act of sacrilege, but "Absalom, Absalom!" is listed at number 21. I feel strongly that William Faulkner should have a novel on this list. But speaking as a person with somewhat simple taste, I found "Absalom, Absalom!" to be almost unreadable, although, I promise, I read every word of it. I endured it as much as read it... "The Sound And The Fury" is also on this list. It is a much easier read. "As I Lay Dying " is not on this list. It is in many ways, Mr. Faulkner at his finest.Just a matter of taste... Thank You...

Title: An excellent introduction
Review: This is the best way to choose which classic novel you're going to read first. Sometimes it provides a summary but more often it gives a gist of each book and invites you to find out the rest for yourself

Review: Good list but would be improved by the inclusion of a TOC. There will always be quibbles about the makeup of lists like these, but this one appears very credible, with the inclusion of works by Tolstoy, Cervantes, Dostoyevsky, Dickens, various Brontes, George Eliot, Austen, Balzac, Kafka, RL Stevenson, Orwell, Hemingway, Mann, Dumas, Defoe, Stendahl, Faulkner, and many others. But, yeah, a TOC would be nice...

Customers say

Customers find the book content wonderful and significant. They also describe it as a good book, excellent choice, and thoughtful selection. Readers appreciate the scope of the list and value for money. However, some feel the book lacks a comprehensive listing of the titles included and provides too little information.
