Your most delightful holiday listen: the sequel to the instant New York Times bestseller The Christmas Bookshop, from beloved Scottish author Jenny Colgan.
Christmas comes early—far too early—to McCredie’s little Old Town bookshop in Edinburgh. It’s summer, but an American production company has decided that McCredie’s is the perfect location to film a very cheesy Christmas movie. After all, who can resist the charmingly narrow historic street with its Victorian grey stone buildings and warmly lit shop windows?
Carmen Hogan, the bookshop’s manager, is amused and a bit horrified by the goings-on, but the money the studio is paying is too good to pass up. She uses the little windfall from filming to create new displays and fend off a buyout offer from an obnoxious millionaire who wants to turn McCredie’s into a souvenir shop selling kilts made in China and plastic Nessies. Still reeling slightly from a breakup, Carmen’s not particularly looking forward to the holidays. But just as snow begins to fall and the lights of Christmas blink on, all sorts of lovely new possibilities present themselves…for McCredie’s bookstore, and for Carmen herself.

Title: Cozy Read
Review: I read both this book and the first one. Really enjoyed the story and the setting, of course, is lovely. I was, however, disappointed in a couple of details that ought to have been checked either by the author or the editors. The love interest in the story, an unusually tall Brazilian spends some time in his homeland in this story, where his childhood friend, Mary (as she is Brazilian, her name should be Maria) is trying to win him over and addresses him as 'my love'. In the book, both she and his mother say "mea amor". It should be "meu amor". Also, one of his friends has a Spanish name, Juan-Castillo, which would be highly unusual for a Brazilian. Small points, to be sure, but they become eye rolling details for anyone who does speak any Portuguese.

Title: Just the Best
Review: Jenny Colman never disappoints. It seems like just one of those books with some woman who runs a bookshop. Iâve read hundreds of them. But then the magic starts and I fall in love. Every character is someone you care about. The funny quips really ARE funny. You can see everything opening up in front of you and suddenly you really are in Edinborough. The snow is wet, youâre cold as ice, and you like it. You actually worry that the guy is going to pick the wrong woman or leave never knowing the truth. (Spoiler alert, he finds out!) And you realize that you donât want the book to end. How does she do it? I donât know, but Iâm endlessly grateful that she doesâ¦

Title: Sweet but predictable with so-so writing
Review: Nice story in the end but one you could see from a way off. So many characters that it was hard to engage too much with any of them, so descriptions and story lines stayed fairly surface-level throughout. Decent as a beach read but wonât be getting others from this author.

Title: The happy ending finally happened!
Review: Carmen is a real life girl and I love her character! She loves Oke, and finally gets him. On the way, she loves her sister and kids,Mr.McCreary, her boss, and mounds of others. She restores the Christmas Book Store in style and helps her boss live his expedition dream. Very good Christmas read!

Review: I highly recommend for Hallmark Christmas movie lovers who prefer reading to watching.Favorite line:âItâs a bookshop. Itâs where people come to step into other lives, other places, for a while.â

Title: A second book! Yay!
Review: When I wrote the review for the first book, I didn't know there was a second one! They were both ever so good. I haven't checked to see if there's a third, because I'm afraid there isn't. Not to be greedy, but I don't want this series to end. Again, thank you, Ms. Colgan, for doing the work and producing such wonderful stories.

Review: Read this one last week, probably a good idea to read last year's book about the bookshop as characters continue from this but a reasonable update is in book if wish to read as a stand alone. Nice storyline, easy read
