If you like Lee Child’s twists and turns and James Patterson's page-turning thrills, you'll love award-winning and bestselling author Joel Goldman's thriller, The Dead Man!
”A masterful blend of rock-solid detective work and escalating dread. The Dead Man is both a top-notch thriller and a heart-rendering story of loss, courage and second chances. I loved it." Robert Crais, NYT Bestselling Author
When people in a study of the human brain start to die exactly as they have dreamed they would die, Jack Davis crosses paths with a serial killer, taking him onto both sides of the law and into the path of a murderer's terrifying rage.
“The Dead Man is one of those rare novels you will be tempted to read twice: the first time to enjoy and the second time to appreciate how Goldman put the pieces together. The hours spent on both will be more than worth it." Bookreporter.com
It doesn't get any better than that, so grab The Dead Man and don't let go!

Title: Really well done thriller and murder mystery.
Review: Great book. I loved the characters and the plot! Wow! The plot is a cut above many books of this genre. It starts with a horrifying unsolved murder and slowly builds the suspense. A very likeable former FBI agent (forced to take a disability retirement) takes on a new roommate and a new security job and continues to grieve the death of his daughter. The FBI is more interested in what he might know about a mssing $500.000 than they are in solving a cold case. He is always one step ahead of them as the body count climbs. Its well written, its interesting and great fun to read. I will be reading other books by this author.

Title: A Good Mystery
Review: A few weeks ago, author Joel Goldman offered the Kindle edition of THE DEAD MAN for free and I grabbed a copy, hoping for a good mystery. I didn't let the "thriller" tag deter me (I often avoid thrillers) and read through the grisly prologue with growing interest. Here's the story overview from another book page (the Amazon page is filled with hype, and not much about the actual story): "Milo Harper wants former FBI agent Jack Davis' help. People in Harper's study of the human brain are starting to die--and dying exactly in the very ways they have dreamed...Harper wants Jack to get to the truth and counter lawsuits aimed at the foundation. But when Jack investigates, the truth explodes: a serial killer is lurking inside one of the most advanced research facilities in the world. For Jack, the case will shatter illusions, raise ghosts, and take him onto both sides of the law--and into the path of a murderer's terrifying rage..."This is the second of the Jack Davis Thrillers, but I wasn't too lost on Jack's life without having read the first. Goldman put in backstory when his protagonist was triggered to memories. At first, when this happened during a fairly active scene, it seemed intrusive, but I got used to the style. All the characters were well-drawn and believable; the "thriller" aspects (blood, gore, graphic violence) wasn't too much to bear, and the story resolutions were effective. That's resolutions--plural--because protagonist Jack Davis had relationship issues to deal with, as well as his odd health condition, and his forced retirement from the FBI.A lot going on, here. Most was handled well, although the ventures into the points of view of other characters didn't seem necessary, and a few scenes really gave away too much. But then, I had determined the perp early on, and read along, learning more about Jack and wondering when he would pickup on the clues. In all, since it had few editing and formatting glitches, THE DEAD MAN was a satisfactory read from a competent writer.

Title: Great story and intriguing mystery
Review: It was a pleasure to read a book that has been edited and proof-read enough that I wasn't sidetracked by errors throughout the book. It left me with a free mind to enjoy the story as it unwinds, try to out-guess the investigators about who and why, and get caught up in getting to know the characters well enough to feel they are people I've met.Like most mystery fans, part of the fun is trying to anticipate 'whodunit'. The author did a fine job of dropping clues and hints, but not so many that I was absolutely sure until the reveal. Oh yes - I suspected who it was, and early on like other reviewers claim. But I was often led off the track as other facts and evidence were revealed. Just enough for me to consider other possible culprits as the story developed, and the ending was well scripted. At times, I was anxious for less details about the settings and characters, so the story would move on to the main story line. Some characters were fully introduced, far more than their later role in the story warranted. And for all the details, some things were not explained well. For example, in his review on one of the cases, he noted that the victim was shot in the left temple, but it was not likely it was suicide, since the victim was right handed. How Jack knew that Delaney was right handed was not clear at all. If it was part of the police report, then there would have been less likelihood that they would have accepted the death as suicide. Although there were so many things about the 'suicide' that made it more probably a murder, that made this part not believable. However, overall, this was a great mystery, well thought out and planned, and well written, edited and proofed. I will enjoy more from author Joel Goldman.

Title: Excellent page turning thriller in a clear, well-written style.
Review: I really enjoyed this book, the writing is clear, the characters are portrayed well and in depth and almost all of them very relatable. The tale is centred on a retired FBI agent, Jack Davis who was retired from the Agency due to a disability. The beginning of the story was a bit nebulous for me but it soon picked up pace as suspected murders are investigated. The plot involves a Company which is investigating in the meaning and consequences of people's dreaming but is there some underhanded business going on and by whom? Author Goldman takes great pains in explaining exactly what is happening through the eyes of investigator Jack. What a great change having the facts presented to you clearly instead of having to guess what is going on as the story unravels. Make no mistake, the twists and turns will keep your interest to the end. For sure I'll be reading more of these series as they come out.

Review: One of the best thrillers I have ever read!!! I refuse to give jacket blurbs (as editors are paid to do that, and you would have read one before reading any reviews) or 'spoilers' (if some twit is going to 'spoil' the surprise or twists then why did the writer waste time writing the book and getting it published, everyone would know who did it after the first reader spoilt it). Suffice to say this book stands alone for the writing style; the flow of the narrative; the dialogue (mature;) lack of unnecessary profanity (the author obviously has a good vocabulary and unlike others does not have to fall back to using a swear word every fifth word); unnecessary sex (why writers feel we all live vacuously through their pathetic imaginings of what sex should feel like, always astounds me); totally believable plot; great characters; dry wit; pathos; brain challenges; deadlines, etc. - my goodness it's got it all. But the amazing thing is Goldman has pulled it all together in a really enjoyable read. I had never heard of this author before but he has just gone to the top of the Leader Board - my new favorite author. This is really a 6 star rating.

Review: The writer has an expanded plot that twists and turns from one suspect the the next. I was wrong initially and as an x cop with an open mind it took 8/10ths of the book before I got it right. You have to follow the chain of evidence and keep an open and enquiring mind. A good read.
