In life and in death, Jesus’ words were powerful and meaningful. Despite the serious effort and increased pain required for Jesus to speak as he hung on the cross, Jesus spoke seven “final words”—statements that have much to teach us about Jesus, his Father, and ourselves:

Father Forgive Them
Today You Will Be with Me in Paradise
Behold Your Son…Behold Your Mother
My God, My God, Why Have You Forsaken Me?
I Thirst
It Is Finished . . . Into Your Hands I Commit My Spirit
Postscript: The Words After That

In 24 Hours That Changed the World, Adam Hamilton took us on a Lenten journey through the last day of Jesus' life. Now in this inspiring follow-up book, Hamilton explores these final words as seen and heard through the eyes and ears of those who stood near the cross.

Each chapter begins with the biblical account followed by a first-person story as might have been told from the viewpoint of one of the characters at the cross. Then the chapter explores the meaning of Jesus’ dying words for our lives today. Following the last statement, a postscript recounts the words Jesus spoke following his resurrection, including what truly were the final words Jesus spoke while walking this earth.

Join the crowd now and experience the final words from the cross.

Final Words from the Cross offers six chapters/sessions plus a postscript chapter/session, so that classes have the option of a seventh session on Easter Sunday.

Title: Interesting thoughts about Christ's words on the cross.
Review: This book was used for a Bible study at my church. It is well written and there are videos that go with each chapter. Adam Hamilton is very good at putting the reader into the situation he is describing. He does a good amount of research and it shows! We have studied several of his books and have enjoyed them all. His discussions elicit some interesting group discussions.

Title: Outstanding Lenten Study
Review: Adam Hamilton has written a thoughtful and thought provoking study on Jesus' last words from the cross. Typical of his writing, Hamilton sets his topic in the context of the time, while relating it to our lives in the present. Our pastor is using the book as the basis for his messages during Lent, along with leading several small group studies during the week. It's well worth reading on it's own and and a wonderful resource for group study.

Title: Worth Reading
Review: I came across this book as I was preparing a sermon series on the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus. The author wrote the book in preparation for the season of Lent. He devotes a chapter to each of the seven statements recorded by the gospel writers, but the last two statements are covered in one chapter. It is a thought provoking book and definitely a good read for daily devotionals or as a small group study. Each chapter begins with a fictional story from the imagined perspective of a person who witnessed the crucifixion of Jesus. I enjoyed the perspective the author brings to the biblical account. The historical references were some of the greatest assets of the book.I thought the book was worth reading, but nothing earth-shaking. I would recommend it as a small group study, or even for research on a sermon series like I used it. There is a discussion guide available as well for a small group.

Title: Final Words from the Cross
Review: The reason for my 5 star rating is because it is scripture based and leaves room for very little opinion. Many of the cross reference scriptures gives an even more understanding of the depth of God's Love and Jesus' obedience to the cross and willingness to give Himself for our sins. The book is easy to follow and read. My library on Kindle Fire will be easy for me to go back and read this book over again..then use it for a resource.Thank you Adam Hamiltion for your insight and easy reading and understanding of what you wrote.

Title: A class of 22 adults read the book and met once a week for 5 weeks to discuss it and all agreed it was one of the best study boo
Review: Concise and well written. Many of the theories about the words made a lot of sense but I had never heard those explanations before. The author was able to back up his theories with Biblical facts. A class of 22 adults read the book and met once a week for 5 weeks to discuss it and all agreed it was one of the best study books we had used for our Lenten Study series.

Title: Fascinating
Review: A fascinating and moving account of the final words from Jesus on the cross. Pastor Adam provides new insights that will deepen your Christian faith, and give you courage as you walk with the Lord toward Golgotha, and bring meaning to what it means to be a Christian today. Highly recommended, especially as a Lenten study, or anytime.

Title: Understanding Those Few Wirds
Review: Adam Hamilton’s insights into the significance of Jesus’ words from the cross are remarkable. For example, Hamilton postulates that Jesus was praying as He was crucified. There is evidence that He was actually praying the Psalms. Specifically, Psalm 22, “My God, why have you forsaken me?” Which is then followed by the more familiar Psalm 23. WOW! All wrapped-up, right there for us.

Title: Another great book
Review: The history and depth that Adam Hamilton brings to his reflections on the life of Christ make Christ "one of us." It is an excellent book for people of all faiths, and for people with no church affiliation. Hamilton concentrates on the message of Christ, not the dogma and rules of faith, so it should be appealing to all who wish to live a full spiritual life.
