When the Manhattan came along, it changed everything. As Gotham’s finest watering holes embraced the new concoction, the original cocktail soon became old hat and known as the Old-Fashioned. Cocktail historian Philip Greene expertly traces the evolution of this new drink from its competing origin stories through its continuing influence and extensive progeny, including the almighty Martini itself. Richly illustrated with vintage ads and artwork and luxe photographs, this definitive, illustrated story of the Manhattan also offers 65 easy-to-follow recipes. Classic variations and contemporary updates range from the Brooklyn and the Vesper to the Little Italy and Red Hook. If you’re thirsty for a good story, you’ve come to the right place.

Title: Fascinating historical account of one of may favorite cocktails !
Review: Great book! I actually purchased 12 copies and have handed them out to clients. One made itâs way to Belgium â¦in the hands of a glassmaker. The best part of the book is all the history about the cocktail, fascinating stuff. That reminds me the dude from Belgium is supposed to send me a picture of him reading it with a Manhattan cocktail. If I get that picture, Iâll post it here . Gotta go , I see Amazon needs me to review my Dove soap purchase !

Title: Highly Recommended!
Review: Great book - highly recommended. Very well written (a rarity for drinks books), researched, and informative. Fantastic addition to a library that includes Gary Reagan's Negroni The Negroni: Drinking to La Dolce Vita, with Recipes & Lore and Robert Simonson's the Old Fashioned The Old-Fashioned: The Story of the World's First Classic Cocktail, with Recipes and Lore.Lots of fantastic recipes that stretch beyond--but are clearly connected to--the Manhattan's simple formula.
