Title: A treasure trove of recipes from classic Baltimore restaurants ...
Review: Once upon a time, before James Rouse created Harborplace, the Baltimore restaurant scene could be defined as "destination" restaurants. Baltimoreans would celebrate Mother's Day by dining at Vellegia's, Peerce's Plantation, or perhaps Haussner's. Charles Street always had the best of the best with The Brass Elephant, The Chesapeake or Danny's.If you desired French cuisine, before 1980, there was one choice, Marconi's. Sun restaurant critic John Dorsey would carry-on over the Lobster Cardinale and then yearn for something besides a slice of Mrs. Posey's cheesecake. As a young man, who set out to make this business his trade, I looked at these restaurants as if they were All-Star athletes.Dining Down Memory Lane is a terrific source of the best recipes from Baltimore's beloved restaurants of the late 20th century. The author, Shelly Howell, drew upon her memories of "Repas gastronomique de Baltimore" in this meticulously researched book. She tested each recipe to be sure that it lived up to the glory of the original chef's intentions.Of the twenty-one restaurants represented in this book, only one is in business today under the same management. The recipes collected here were handed down by word of mouth rather than a T.G.I. Fridays formula. This book makes a great gift and no doubt many a memory will be relived through these pages.

Title: Purchased based on a recommendation.
Review: I was told about this book by someone who's got a copy as well. It seems like the author went through restaurant recipes submitted to the Baltimore Sun newspaper and published in other sources. As with most cookbooks, expect to find something you probably won't make. I came across a small number that aren't my taste, or would require more prep time than I usually have (they would be a special occasion dish). It covers several kinds of food for a small volume, and does include a few Baltimore County restaurants, not just ones from Baltimore City.Definitely a fun book, even if you just read the descriptions.
