Life as a teenager can feel like getting on a wild roller-coaster ride, not knowing when the next unexpected twist or turn will come. But there’s only so much uncertainty one can take before becoming… sick.Teens need support now more than ever before to manage the transitions that come with adolescence, but not the kind of support where mom and dad are constantly in their ear!
They are in search of helpful resources that they can pursue on their own, which can provide the appropriate psychological skills to cope with everyday life stressors.
The DBT Workbook for Teens is the perfect resource to help your child, aged 13–19, learn effective stress management techniques at their own pace.
Borrowing from the work of the founder of dialectical behavioral therapy, Dr. Marsha Linehan, the workbook presents four core DBT skills: mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness.
Each skill promises to teach your child valuable coping strategies: Mindfulness seeks to identify and let go of unwanted thoughts and emotions, emotional regulation teaches how to describe and observe strong emotions without being taken by them, distress tolerance strengthens emotional resilience in the face of challenges, and interpersonal effectiveness promotes self-respect and setting healthy boundaries.
Some of the critical lessons your child will learn include:How to break free from cycles of overthinking, and mindfully shift their focus onto the present moment. How to self-soothe and de-escalate stressful situations at school or at home through exercises like deep breathing and meditation.Steps to recognize, manage, and accept overpowering emotions, and take the opposite action with skills like “ABC PLEASE.”How to nurture relationships with effective communication and resolve conflict with skills like “DEAR MAN.”The aim of this workbook is to teach young people different ways to cope with stress, whether it be through calming their minds, regulating their emotions, or learning how to express their thoughts and feelings effectively. After going through these DBT skills and exercises, teens will walk away feeling more equipped to handle the pressures of school, home life, and friendships.
The benefits of stress management with DBT are endless. Set your teen up for success by purchasing a copy of the workbook today!

Title: Empowering Teens with DBT: A Comprehensive Workbook Review
Review: The DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) Workbook for Teens stands as a commendable effort to distill complex therapeutic concepts into teen-friendly language and exercises. This resource, found on Amazon, delivers on its promise to be both engaging and effective for its targeted age group, offering adolescents valuable tools and strategies to manage their emotions and challenges. While it boasts many strengths, there are also areas for improvement. From the outset, the workbookâs layout is visually appealing and well-organized. Teens are often visual learners, and the graphics, tables, and charts used complement the text wonderfully. This not only captures the readerâs attention but also aids in simplifying the multifaceted principles of DBT. The author seems to have a keen understanding of the adolescent mind, making it easier for the reader to relate to the content and feel validated in their experiences.A significant strength of the book is its focus on real-life scenarios. The exercises provided dive deep into common struggles faced by teens, ranging from peer pressures, academic stress, family dynamics, to self-esteem issues. By grounding the DBT techniques in relatable contexts, the workbook ensures that readers can easily apply what they learn to their daily lives.Furthermore, the interactive nature of the exercises encourages active participation. Teens arenât just passive recipients of information; theyâre given the opportunity to reflect on their experiences, jot down their thoughts, and practice the techniques in real-time. This hands-on approach is instrumental in ingraining the DBT skills. However, no product is without its flaws. One area that the DBT Workbook for Teens might improve upon is the depth of certain sections. While the book excels at simplifying concepts for its target demographic, some sections may appear overly simplified to the point where the depth of the original DBT concept is lost. This might not cater to older teens or those who are already somewhat familiar with DBT and are looking for a more nuanced understanding.Another minor critique is the pacing. Some readers might find that certain sections progress a bit too quickly, moving from one topic to another without allowing enough space for absorption and reflection. While this pacing ensures the workbook remains engaging and doesnât stagnate on one topic, a little more breathing room might enhance comprehension and retention.Despite these areas of improvement, itâs clear that the positives significantly outweigh the negatives. The DBT Workbook for Teens is a robust tool that holds the potential to make a tangible difference in the lives of adolescents. For parents or guardians considering this book for their teen, it offers a proactive approach to emotional regulation, stress reduction, and interpersonal effectiveness â all crucial skills in todayâs fast-paced world. In conclusion, the DBT Workbook for Teens, available on Amazon, is a worthwhile investment for those seeking to empower the teenagers in their lives with proven therapeutic techniques. Itâs approachable, relevant, and thoughtfully designed. While it might benefit from a bit more depth in certain sections and a slightly adjusted pace, it remains a standout resource in the realm of teen mental health and well-being. Four stars out of five.

Review: Compared to the original DBT handbook, worksheets and handouts, this book is a successful attempt at simplifying and streamlining to make it way more accessible to teens. While the original source material is extremely detailed, and intended to be administered by a trained professional for use in individual and group sessions, it's not DIY, and it's not something an average person can just pick up and apply themselves, let alone an anxious or depressed teen who's dealing with all the pressures of adolescence, home life, school life, inexperience, etc, to which any program like this could just feel like more homework and be overwhelming, inaccessible or boring. Books like this provide a streamlined DIY version that could be used on its own, depending on the circumstances, or as an alternative simplified handbook. Much like the difference between going to a professional physical therapist and buying a massage gun, for some situations the DIY solution is fine, and if you actually have some help from someone who knows what they're doing it can be quite effective. The book has a lot of exercises, which can be good or bad. If you're a parent or a counselor and are looking for something to help in your work with a teen, this could be a useful book. If you're thinking you can give this to a depressed or anxious teen and expect them to be inspired to do the work and heal, I think that's unrealistic, but it's also not a promise the book makes either.
