Title: Delicious and easy recipes
Review: I had a few consecutive blood tests where some numbers were trending in the wrong direction. I was also feeling terrible overall for quite some time. I decided I needed to change my diet/eating habits and see what happens. For the past 5 weeks I've been eating exclusively from this book and companion website (minus 2 days while out but being mindful of what I was eating). Within the first 2 weeks I felt so much better. I was less foggy-headed and had more energy. I also never realized how bloated I was. An added bonus is that I've lost 11.5 pounds in those 5 weeks (without exercise). The recipes are easy and use a lot of the same ingredients which makes shopping and not wasting food a breeze. That may seem repetitive, the recipes do taste different! While there were some veggies I liked, I was never a fruit eater. Now, I'm eatting mostly veggies and don't think twice about grabbing a mandarin for a snack. In this diet you will be eating a lot of olive oil, feta, tomatoes, and cucumbers. If you dislike any of those things I suggest you still give the book a try. if you intensely dislike any of them, then you might want to find not only a different book but a different eating style. For most of my adult life I was a low-fat everything person. Its been odd for me to be using so much olive oil and full fat foods but the author, Elena Paravantes, is a registered dietitian so I've trusted her expertise and have followed along with her ingredients. It will be interesting to see the results of my next blood test which will be in about 4 months from now.If you're someone who likes a variety in your breakfast dishes, note there aren't many in the book but from what I've read, breakfast isn't much of a big deal in the mediterranean and these recipes are great. I'm enjoying the Greek Yogurt Breakfast Bowl as I write this review. The main course is lunch time and there are plenty of recipes to choose from including pasta, meat, poultry, and vegetarian. Dinner is lighter fare like salads. My favorite is the Dakos which has grated tomatoes as the main ingredient. I was never really a tomato lover but this recipe has changed my mind!Desserts are included but I've only made a couple as I don't feel the need to have any (and I was a BIG dessert person). When I do make one, its usually the Greek Yogurt Ricotta Mousse. I've tried experimenting with the flavors and if you like the original, next time try swapping out the lemon for orange.Recipes vary in portion size with many being for 1, 2, or 3, which I find helpful when planning my weekly meals. While I'm a person who likes to have a picture for every recipe in a cookbook, there aren't pictures for every one in this book and I've found that hasn't been a problem for me and the recipes include instructions on how to lay out the plate. The introduction of the cookbook is not long-winded but clear and concise on the basis of the eating style and how to achieve it. The only issue I personally have with the book is the index. There's not much crossed-referencing so unless you know the exact name of the dish you're looking for you won't find it. Example: if I want to make the Greek Yogurt Ricotta Mousse and I can only remember the name had the word yogurt in it, the index not only doesn't have it listed under yogurt, there isn't a "Y" section at all.I'm really hoping to keep on this mediterranean diet journey and make it my normal way of life. Everyday will be a challenge to not fall back into old habits but so far, this cookbook has keep me not only on track but looking forward to staying on it.

Title: Flavorful recipes that are easy to make!
Review: There are a lot of things I love about this book! I would absolutely love for the author to write another one that expands on this one. First and foremost, the recipes are easy to make and very tasty! Many recipes have just 5-7 ingredients (not 15!), and I can find them at my local grocery instead of driving all over town - which I won't do. I love the tips included for substitutions and there are lots of great pictures. The detail about calorie content and other nutrients, as well as serving suggestions is super helpful. I like that the ingredients for many recipes only use half a fruit or veggie that can then be used in the same dish or another dish during the same week. I find I don't have ingredients going stale because they are only used for one recipe.

Title: Lives up to its name â with one caveat
Review: I bought this at the same time as two other Mediterranean cookbooks â The Mediterranean Dish and The Complete Mediterranean Cookbook â and I think this is certainly the best for newbies out of the three. It has a much smaller range of recipes than the latter so itâs less overwhelming, and requires you to buy less specialty spices than the former. It has a great intro explaining the tenets of the Mediterranean diet, as well as lots of full-page, colorful photographs throughout. Overall it appears very well thought out aside from one thing, which is a big thing for dieters: the nutrition info provided is often wrong. One example is a recipe for âNeapolitan Pasta and Zucchiniâ, a dish made of pasta, vegetables, olive oil, and a small amount of cheese is labeled as having 72g of protein in all. I definitely suggest doing your own calculations for nutrition values, especially if youâre tracking macros.Overall itâs an attractive book with delicious recipes!

Title: Solid Recipes, Life Changing In Fact....
Review: This book is excellent, but her website is even better. I spend hours (unintentionally) mining it, getting better quality ingredients and smarter choices into me and my family's bodies, & relishing the simplicity of her writing and instructions. These recipes are insanely simple and delicious. I love that they are also really quick, because I end up making a lot of them in my Instant Pot or oven so there is little food-sitting involved. The technique of cooking veggies to have a velvety texture is really effective for both flavor and digestion. The dishes are universally pleasing for not just the adults in the house, but also my 1 yr old and my dogs!I am former lifelong bean hater, but I now make them several times a week.I finally accomplished my goal of eating healthy fish (small, fatty ones) regularly and actually eat the tinned fish in my pantry now.I've even learned to incorporate wine into my diet, the healthy way.I've never eaten so many vegetables before...by choice. And I went vegan for a year. This has been considerably easier. :)I feel much much better and more full. Some favorites:Amygthalota (Greek Almond Cookies)Feta Stuffed DatesWhole Wheat Olive and Feta Cheese BreadGigantes Plaki â Tender Greek Roasted Beans in Tomato SauceGreek Green Beans-Fasolakia LatheraGreek Chicken Cooked in Tomato-Kotopoulo KokkinistoGreek Cabbage with Rice â LahanorizoI also like that she doesn't include salt in some recipes, accounting for the salty feta that would be served with a dish. This is such a great lifestyle change, and so much less expensive and easier than all the fads out there. Likely why it doesn't get the endorsements and publicity it should, even with all the solid research supporting it. This last point is worth exploring, and thankfully she isn't shy about it.

Review: I am so happy with this cookbook...it is exactly what I hoped for and even more. First off...beautiful photos. Secondly...meal planning advice, nutritional info for every recipe AND the recipes are easy but amazing and even though I love to cook...there aren't any recipes that I can't easily and quickly make and very accessible and affordable menus. There is a variety of tips and tricks also to add to the recipe making experience. VERY happy with this purchase and as I have high cholesterol and high blood pressure...these recipes are perfect ! 5 stars for sure !!

Review: I bought this after being surprise diagnosed with quite high blood pressure by my GP. Iâd read a lot in the media about the Mediterranean Diet and DASH diets but couldnât find any good free advice on what these actually meant. I chose this book as it had been mentioned positively by an Amazon reviewer who rated it better than another cookbook she had tried. One reviewer of this book was negative that it didnât have âdinnersâ and the way this book is structured I can see what they mean. There is a sample 2 week meal plan to show how you might combine some different recipes to make a full meal, but some recipes ARE the full meal. So this is a cook book you might have to read all the way through to grasp how this system is meant to work. The recipes so far are very delicious and satisfying, but to be fair I havenât tried the âonly salad for dinnerâ option yet! Iâm afraid my family might fight me! Another good thing is I find it easy to substitute different veg in the recipe for more seasonal or affordable choices - using Savoy cabbage or spring greens instead of spinach for example. The recipes are quite flexible in that sense. Many dishes can be made in advance too if you need to prep meals ahead for the week. Anyway, I wasnât sure I would like this book when it arrived, but having given it a go I am very happy with it.UPDATE (6 weeks later): This book is really terrific. I have learned more about the specific ingredients and why they help lower inflammation and cholesterol. I am now honestly addicted to my lunchtime salad (a big surprise) and start looking forward to it and enjoy planning what Iâm going to put in it. Another interesting difference is that practicing putting these meals together has helped motivate me to make better choices when weâre at restaurants, and it doesnât feel like a punishment or that I am denying myself. It has also helped me adapt family favourites to be better with regards to my health issues, or to put less healthy options into perspective, as something to really enjoy once a fortnight or at a party. My husband has enjoyed trying the new dishes and once our youngest moves out he is happy to shift our dinners to more closely follow this plan.
