Title: UMIDIGI enters the 5G world with a BANG! Large Screen, lots of storage, and Android 14.
Review: I just love UMIDIGI cell phones. They are very reasonably priced and have lots of power and storage, so they are often a better value than some of the more expensive cell phone brands. One of the issues with the value phones is that they are later introducing some of the features and operating systems that the other brands provide. So, when I saw this 5G, Android 14 UMIDIGI G9 5G Cell Phone on Amazon.com, I snapped it up and had it delivered to Canada. Even with the cost of duty, the price was still very reasonable. I understand it is being released soon on Amazon.ca, but I just couldn't take the chance. This is the very first time, I’m aware of, that UMIDIGI released a 5G phone in North America, which is why I was so eager to pick one up. Although the 5G platform is not widely available in my area, the great part about this phone is that when it does not find a 5G network, it automatically switches to 4G LTE and seamlessly continues to provide you with the best connection available. If you live in a large city, you’ll likely spend most of your day connected 5G and it is lightning fast comparatively.I really love the 6.75-inch, 90 MHz Eye-care Display. It’s very comfortable to look at everyday and it’s even enjoyable to watch a YouTube video or a Netflix movie on it. I think it’s the perfect size as anything bigger would probably start to feel like you’re carrying a small tablet in your pocket. Despite its large screen, this is amazingly comfortable to carry in your front or back pocket, and you hardly know it’s there.I’ve been using this UMIDIGI G9 5G Cell Phone for about a month now and it is the perfect daily driver. The processor is a solid Unisoc T765 Octa (eight) Core Processor that has 2 large 2.3 GHz Cortex-A73 cores and 6 smaller 2.1 GHz A55 cores on-board. It's a mid-level processor which provides very smooth computing whether your playing, communicating, creating or multitasking, and provides all the power the average user needs. The UMIDIGI G9 has 6GB of installed RAM. This is sufficient for most average users, in fact it's probably lots. If you noticed it comes with 12GB in the description, this is because Android 14 has a Memory Expansion option. It uses an equal amount of your storage space (ROM) as RAM. Now if you know don't know anything about RAM vs ROM (storage) speeds, RAM is almost instantaneous where storage is slower in comparison. However, if a memory-intensive app pushes your 6GB of ram, the expanded ram will jump in and allow your app to continue. I have not yet had a ram issue or a frozen app, whether using the unexpanded 6GB or the expanded 12GB.The G9 comes with 128 GB ROM storage. I consider myself to be an average to intermediate user and I'm currently using about 45 GB or about 1/3 of my storage. This includes 15GB in apps, 8GB of video and audio, 2GB of pictures, and don't forget, the first 13GB is required for your Android 14 operating system. The UMIDIGI G9 comes with dual sim card slots. One slot is a dedicated sim card slot and the other will accept either a second sim or a micro-SD card (up to 1TB). If you don't need more storage, the second sim slot can allow you to carry two phone numbers, like a work number and a personal number, on the same device. This is much better than having to carry two devices. The 5000mAh battery is lasting me about two days on a charge at a low, but comfortable, brightness level. However, I usually charge my phone every night, so I evaluated it during an 18-hour period. On FULL brightness, the G9 had 29% battery; at half, the device had 38% left; and at minimum brightness, the phone held 50% battery life after the full day.The only issue I have with this phone is that it does not come with NFC. This is the feature that allows you to tap your phone to pay with your Debit or Credit card. This is not something I use, but I know many users do. I think in these technological times, TAP should always be standard. If you want a worry-free, large-screen, smooth and reliable cell phone that won't let you down or break the bank, consider the UMIDIGI G9 5G. I chose the GREEN and I really LOVE the colour. It even comes with an installed screen protector and a FREE basic case.

Title: Doesn't Work On Verizon or AT&T
Review: Really great phone for the price. I broke the screen on my Pixel 6 and while waiting for a replacement I bought this phone to have as a backup. Everything set up as normal and showed connection to Verizon 4G LTE. But I could not make or receive calls or SMS messages. I could use data fine though. Apparently all the major carriers have a whitelist of phones they allow on their network and this isn't one of them. I read other reviews where they mentioned that it wouldn't work on AT&T. So beware that even though the frequencies and bands are good, your provider might just block the phone. The phone is relatively fast, screen is great, camera is really good and having the dual sim/sd card ability is great.

Title: Exceptional quality at a bargain price.
Review: Wow! This phone is really impressive for this price. I've had the phone for about a week. When I received it I removed it from the box and booted it up. I followed the on-screen prompts and transferred all of my apps and data from my old phone using an enclosed USB cable, seamlessly. After following the set-up instructions on the phone everything worked as it should. Next I took it to my truck and tried Android Auto. Again, seamless. The phone itself is the perfect size for me. The screen is bright/vivid. The metal frame is thin, lightweight, and appears to be strong and rugged. The battery lasts all day and recharges fast. The camera is excellent. I really don't know why you would spend hundreds or a thousand more for other phones when this one does, essentially, the same thing for less than $150.

Title: Absolutely useless.
Review: Let's see...where should I start? Screen timeout doesn't work. Notifications not coming through. Do not disturb is nonfunctional. Can't use the speaker function during a call because of the infernal popping and clicking noises that the people on the other end hear. I found that out during an important business call. TONS of bloatware that can't be uninstalled or disabled. Bluetooth functionality is hit and miss. Also, the second I inserted my SIM I received a text from T-Mobile that the phone is only "partially compatible".

Title: I ended up returning it
Review: I initially thought this would be a good backup phone if something happened to my iPhone. The phone screen was slightly larger than my iPhone (I have an iPhone 16 Pro). The phone worked flawlessly with my U3 1 TB microSD card. I ended up returning the phone to Amazon because I had thought I could propagate my existing cell phone number using the T-Mobile digits app. After getting the digits app and the corresponding digits plan set up on both phones, to my embarrassment, people started complaining that the text messages I was sending were out of conversational order ( meaning that the conversation thread was jumbled when they received the messages). That turned out to be the fault of the T-Mobile digits app and not the phone. Because I had so much grief getting this workaround regarding my text messages set up between both phones, I got so disgusted that I simply returned his phone, and I'm now fully using my iPhone again. If I had an Android phone as my primary phone instead of an iPhone, I know my experience would have been much better.

Title: This thing is solid and cool
Review: I've been using the UMIDIGI G9 5G as a replacement for my old Google Pixel 4, and honestly, it's pretty solid. The screen is big enough for all my apps, and I love how smooth it feels won games with the 90Hz refresh rate. The 12GB of space is more than enough for everything I have, and Android 14 is quick. The battery life is a plus, lasting me most of the day without needing a charge. I charged it at the airport and lasted the whole day. The cameras are great - 50MP main camera - freaking mind blowing. Overall, it’s a really good deal for the price!!I’m impressed with what it offers. Check it out y’all. It was definitely a good pick.

Review: I recently purchased the Umidigi G9 5G, and I've been pleasantly surprised by its performance, especially considering the price point.Opening the box, the phone is on top with a screen protector already applied. Also a protective case was already on the phone. A charging brick, usb-c cable, and sim card tray tool are also included.Design and Build:The phone has a sleek design, with a large display that’s bright and vibrant. It feels solid in hand, and the build quality is impressive for a budget device.Performance:Powered by a Unisoc T765 processor, the G9 handles daily tasks smoothly. With 6 gigs of RAM and up to 90Hz refresh rate screen, it can handle several apps simultaneously and looks great.Camera:The camera system offers good quality for casual photography. The main sensor captures decent photos in well-lit conditions, but low-light performance is just average.Battery Life:One of the standout features is the battery life. The 5000mAh battery easily lasts me through a day and a half of moderate use, which is great for someone always on the go.Software:Running on a near-stock version of Android 14, the interface is clean and user-friendly.Connectivity:5G support is a game-changer, providing fast internet speeds when I’m in a coverage area. The call quality and overall connectivity have been reliable.Overall:For the price, the Umidigi G9 5G is a solid option for anyone looking for a budget-friendly smartphone that doesn’t compromise too much on performance or features. While it may not compete with flagship models, it definitely offers great value for money. Highly recommended for budget-conscious buyers.
