Asian. Paleo. Delicious.
Paleo Mongolian Beef
Chinese Dim Sum Shumai
Healthy Teriyaki Chicken
Serves 4
This chicken is made with no added sugar or starch and roasted in the oven with simplified cooking methods to help you enjoy good food fast. I highly recommend using boneless chicken thighs with the skin on. You can ask the butcher to remove the thigh bones for you. Serve with leafy greens or with mashed potatoes or cauliflower rice.
Preheat oven to 425F. Line a sheet pan with parchment paper and place a baking rack on top. Spray the rack with oil. Pat chicken dry. Season with sea salt on all sides.Place the chicken thighs, skin side up, on the prepared rack. Bake for 20 minutes, until skin becomes light golden brown and meat is completely cooked through (165F on a meat thermometer).Remove from oven and brush with teriyaki sauce. Change oven setting to high broil. Place the chicken back in the oven and broil for 3 minutes to give the skin a golden color. Wait 5 minutes before slicing the chicken into bite-sized pieces. Sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds and chopped scallions.
Ingredients Cooking oil spray (avocado, coconut, or ghee) 4 boneless chicken thighs, skin on (about 1½ pounds) Sea salt ⅓ cup I Heart Umami Teriyaki Sauce (page 187) Toasted white sesame seeds (optional) Chopped scallions (optional)

Title: Finally a usable Asian cookbook for low-carb (keto/paleo)
Review: This book is fantastic. I started keto 5 years ago and LOVE Asian food. I've struggled to find recipes that really work. So far I've tried only two out of this book but they were spot on. So I have to spread the love.I also like nom nom paleo but find the presentation of the recipes there with all the pictures and cartoons distracting. This is just one picture and a recipe. Very easy to work with. Love it.

Title: So much flavor in a beautifully made book.
Review: After moving from California to a small farming town in the midwest, I became a bit homesick when shopping through the local supermarket and slowly realizing that my prospects had become quite limited as far as flavor was concerned. I was definitely spoiled, and I needed help. When I found this book, and ChihYu's website IHeartUmami.com, I was saved. She packs so much flavor in simple and quick recipes. My family eats a Paleo diet. We have limited access to "traditional" Asian ingredients, but she made it work. I can find all of the ingredients needs in my local shop. Anything special can most certainly be found inexpensively from amazom.com. My kids rave about and beg for Chicken Katsu. We also love sesame beef, kung pao chicken, and my personal favorite, Lion's head meatballs. I cook from this book at least twice per week and have yet to be bored. These recipes are incredibly easy and flavorful. Also, the size and dimensions of the book are perfect. Not too big, and not too small. It fits in your hand just right.

Title: You will feel like an exotic chef!
Review: I have been a long time fan of Chihyu. I have made so many of her recipes. And I've been using her Cook Once Eat All Week program for a while. Her instructions are clear and easy. I actually feel like a fancy chef when I'm done and no one knows how way it was! Her recipes don't have a large quantity of unfamiliar ingredients and yet when your finished the meal tastes so complex! I am so happy to have discovered Chihyu and her recipes. Her book is beautiful, well made, easy to follow, and her tips and substitutions are very helpful. I GREATLY recommend this book. In fact my son was visiting the other day and asked if he could borrow it. Now I know what to get him for Christmas!

Title: Great Asian Recipes
Review: Great way to learn how to make Asian dishes. I didn't grow up eating rice or Chinese food. I love that the author has step by step instructions for every recipe. Each recipe has variations and substitutions for some ingredients that may not be found in the local grocery store. My family has loved every recipe that I had made so far from this book, (around 20 so far). This cookbook really shines a light on those mystery sauces that you thought you would never be able to make.If you want to learn to cook Asian food, you've got to try this cookbook out. My pic shows my very first sweet and sour chicken dish.

Title: Delicious Asian Cuisine at its healthiest
Review: I have followed ChihYuâs blog for some time now, and so happy for her (& for me) on her first published cookbook. You will appreciate all of the effort she has put in to making recipes that are made using ingredients that can be found at local grocery. Asian cuisine thatâs not filled with MSG, preservatives, excess sugar and other bad fillers/thickeners. The book is a great balance of the expected Asian take-out entrees, broccoli and beef, Mongolian beef, cashew chicken, sweet & sour. BUT, packed with so many more dishes Taiwanese, Thai, and Vietnamese. You can make you favorites and expand your Asian palate all at once. Itâs nice because a lot of the ingredients overlap with each recipe that helps a ton with weekly meal planning and prep. Iâve already made Lionâs Head Meatballs, Thai Beef (from the blog), and Sesame Beef. All were very good. I already have another 5 already bookmarked to make in the next couple of weeks!!! Trust the flavors and techniques that Chihyu shares, these dishes come out amazing!!

Title: Great Cookbook! even for Non-Paleo Eaters
Review: I have been making her recipes for about a year, so when I found out she was putting out a cookbook I was SO excited! When it came in the mail, it was in perfect condition. The recipe photos are absolutely beautiful and Iâm so exited to work through the whole book! So far Iâve made a couple recipes and they have been DELISH. The instructions are easy to follow and I love that she added tips for meal prepping if you want. You wonât regret this book and if you arenât following her on Instagram - you are really missing out too! She has a lot of great videos of her recipes. I could go on and on... love this book!

Title: Delectable paleo Asian dishes!
Review: I absolutely LOVE Smith's cookbook. Even though most of these recipes are on her blog and IG, it's nice to have a book to pick up and flip too. Sometimes it's a pain to have to find the link in the IG bio or search the recipe index on the blog. That plus having my phone screensaver turn on and not being able to open it because my hands are knuckle deep in the meatball mix. Perfect, perfect perfect. The Sesame Chicken is in my top three faves. I love that her recipes are so simple with easy ingredients, nothing to fancy. Only a few spices have been difficult to find in traditional American grocery stores but that only means I get to go explore my local Asian grocery stores.

Review: This cookbook has already paid for itself. My thoughts are; if I can find one recipe that Iâm impressed with then it was worth the purchase. Iâve made two recipes so far, and am impressed with both of them. All the recipes look like theyâre worth trying and I can hardly wait to start the sampling.

Review: I don't write a lot of reviews, but had to do so for this one. This book checks multiple boxes: paleo/keto, tasty, and quick. The author also works with relatively common/easy to find ingredients.
