Abigail Logan never expected to inherit a whisky distillery in the Scottish Highlands. But in the first novel of an engaging new series blending fine spirits with chilling mystery, Abi finds that there are secrets lurking in the misty glens that some will go to any lengths to protect...even murder.
When Abi inherits her uncle's quaint and storied single malt distillery, she finds herself immersed in a competitive high-stakes business that elicits deep passions and prejudices. An award-winning photojournalist, Abi has no trouble capturing the perfect shot - but making the perfect shot is another matter. When she starts to receive disturbing, anonymous threats, it's clear that someone wants her out of the picture. But Abi's never been one to back down from a fight.
Arriving on the scene with her whisky-loving best friend, Patrick, and an oversized wheaten terrier named Liam, Abi seems to put everyone in the bucolic village on edge - especially her dour but disturbingly attractive head distiller. Acts of sabotage and increasingly personal threats against Abi make it clear that she is not welcome. When one of Abi's new employees is found floating face down in a vat of whisky, Abi is determined to use her skills as an investigative journalist to identify the cold-blooded killer and dispense a dram of justice before he strikes again. But distilling truth from lies is tricky, especially when everyone seems to have something to hide.

Title: Fantastic first novel
Review: Loved this book and I love the fact that we will see more of Abi Logan and, presumably, other characters in this first of a series story. I admit it - I'm a sucker for a strong woman protagonist. Abi is clever, determined, resourceful, yet not perfect. As to the story, first, the antagonist was unexpected until he/she was revealed. Upon reflection, though, the clues were there. I appreciate being surprised, especially when some twists in the story might leave you thinking someone else had a hand in the dirty deed. I also appreciate a satisfying ending. Too often these days, I find myself liking a story line and then being disappointed with an ending that seems rushed and simplistic. This story line ended in a satisfying and realistic way, but there was enough of a teaser and things left hanging that make me look forward to the next book in this series. Finally, I appreciate learning something new. I might even have to venture out and try some whiskey now that I know the process behind it, except I'm afraid that the good stuff might put a dent in my wallet. Well researched, well written, and thoroughly enjoyable.

Title: Murder at Whisky Distillery in Scotland
Review: Abi Logan inherits her uncle's small distillery in Scotland. The distillery has a very good reputation for producing quality single malt whisky. I thought it was interesting about the difference between single malt and whisky blends. The information about whisky production was one of the most interesting parts of the book for me.Abi is a world famous journalist and photographer. She travels to Abbey Glen to look over the business. Her initial plan seems to be to sell the business and go back to her journalistic life. Some one is not happy with Abi being the new owner. Sabotage is occurring and eventually murder. The mystery portion was good. This was an interesting and somewhat edgy cozy read.

Title: Great Start for a New Series!
Review: Single Malt Murder is the first book of a new series by Melinda Mullet.Abigail Logan, Abi to her friends, is an award winning photojournalist. When she inherits a single-malt distillery in Scotland from her beloved Uncle Ben, she finds herself in the midst of a male dominated business. She no sooner receives notice from her uncle's attorney about the inheritance when she starts receiving anonymous threats. It becomes  quite clear someone is trying to scare her into selling the business, but Abi is not one to give up. When she arrives in Scotland, she finds that someone is sabotaging the business with unexplained equipment breaking down and reaches an all time high when someone is found dead in one of the tanks. Together with her friend Peter, they embark on their own investigation to see who wants the business so bad they would murder. There are numerous suspects to be had as she has several offers to buy the business. This is a new author and I thought the book was well written and the characters are all likeable. It was an enjoyable read and I look forward to the next one in the series. I would like to thank the publisher and Netgalley.com for giving me the opportunity to read this in exchange for an honest review.

Title: Set up the drinks.
Review: A great read that immediately gets your attention. Logan inherits a single malt distillery from her special uncle. He had help raise her and form her. Although he was ill, his death was unexpected. She finds the distillery and home enchanting with touches of Ben all around her, but there's always a drawback. She's an outsider in the business and not a Scot. She works hard to learn about the business, her colleagues and more. She is rewarded with mystery, adversity and murder. However, her enemies have a lot to learn about her. She has spent her life in difficult and dangerous places as a photojournalist and has learned to land on her feet and survive. The story has a good plot, great descriptions of locale and the characters are mysterious, endearing and frustrating....need I say more?Highly recommended for a good mystery, an interesting read and knowledge gained.

Title: Book #1: Whiskey Business Mystery
Review: Single Malt Murder by Melinda MulletBook #1: Whiskey Business Mystery SeriesSource: PurchaseMy Rating: 4/5 starsAbi Logan has spent her adult life in some of the worldâs most horrifying places. As an award-winning photojournalist, Abi has seen more than the average person and handled most of it spectacularly. Whatâs harder to handle is the death of her uncle, the man who raised her.Ben was everything to Abi, and his death, though not unexpected is still hard to accept. Whatâs more, Ben has left Abi a beautifully renovated home and a boutique whiskey distillery. While Abi is grateful for the home - being a photojournalist doesnât leave much room for settling in and making a home â she has no idea what to do with the distillery. If the locals are to believed, itâs no surprise Abi has no idea what to do with a distillery since itâs a manâs world and no place for a woman. What those locals (and other distillery owners!) donât know is anything about Abi and how dear Ben really was to her.Digging her feet in and accomplishing her goals is what Abi does, and within hours of her arrival she is going to have to do just that. Since Benâs death, there have been small acts of vandalism around the distillery and when Abi doesnât immediately put the distillery on the market, the vandalism and threats only increase. Though the local police donât want her involved, Abiâs natural instincts toward uncovering the truth kick in and she begins asking a lot of questions. Getting the locals to trust her isnât easy, but when one of their own turns up dead and Abi makes every effort to solve the crime she gets a little further, a little faster. As sheâs poking around, Abi does begin to make a few friends, she learns a great deal about the history of her newly acquired distillery, and taps into a much larger series of crimes than anyone could have originally suspected. Though Abi doesnât tend toward such rotten luck, the much larger series of crimes she uncovers puts her in tremendous danger and Abi suddenly becomes grateful for the few friends sheâs made. The Bottom Line: It took me several chapters to really get into this book, but Iâm glad I gave it a chance to pick up and pull me in. Abi isnât the typical disgusting journalist so getting behind her and her inquiries wasnât all that hard. The locals who befriend Abi are all quite delightful and such an asset to the overall read. While this story is certainly about the distillery and the whiskey plot, it is also about Abi finding her place in the world. Without Ben, Abi is decidedly lost, and in his wisdom, Ben brought Abi to the one place in the world he knew she would belong. All she had to do was solve a huge crime, a series of other crimes, and convince the locals she isnât going to sell off their beloved distillery to the highest bidder. Nothing could possibly go wrong in all of that ð

Review: Abi is a top photographer who was brought up from the age of 8 by her Uncle Ben, at the start of this, the first book, Ben has just died of cancer and he has left the majority of his estate to Abi, including a distillery! Shortly afterwards threads start appearing and when Abi goes up to see her new aquisition she is not greeted that warmly. She needs to make decisions, what to do with everything and how to convince the local Police that she and her friend Patrick have nothing to do with a sudden death!Add in a wonderful cast of characters, some history of whisky and a loveable dog and you have the start of what I hope will be a great series.
