Title: Great on medium skin-tones, minimal white-cast
Review: I used this during my weeklong trip in Hawaii after reading reviews from Wirecutter and it's great! I've tried about 5+ brands of well-rated, reef-safe sunscreens and they tend to be really thick and uncomfortable and have a really strong white cast. With a mineral and reef-safe sunscreen, you're always going to have a bit of that, but this is the best out of the ones I've tried. It spreads on easily, and the white-cast is minimal. I have a medium skintone (Y405 MUFE) and I applied this on my face and body. When swimming (after waiting the standard 15 min), the white cast is a lot more apparent but that's to be expected.I didn't have any issues with breakouts on this and it spreads easily for a mineral sunscreen. Knowing that I'm not destroying the reefs (based on Wirecutter) makes me happy to re-purchase this next time I take a tropical vacation.

Title: Best facial sunscreen and moisturizer
Review: There is a lot to like about this product. It moisturizes and protects my skin from the sun beautifully. Itâs the only daytime moisturizer I need. I have very sensitive skin and it doesnât irritate my skin at all, not even my eyelid area which is extra sensitive. It doesnât have an overly perfumed or aggressive fragrance. It easily absorbs into my skin without leaving any residue and a little goes a long way. Itâs also environmentally friendly as the bottle is made from recycled plastic, the ingredients are ocean and reef friendly, and it supports regenerative farming. Plus, the bottle is designed so the liquid inside will naturally flow down towards the opening and you donât have to try to squeeze or shake the bottle to get access to all of it.

Title: 7 Days in Sunshine and not burned!!!
Review: I had a 7 day vacation to the Florida Keys. Everyday we were outside doing something, in water, and sweating. I was really impressed with how well this sunscreen worked. I was good about reapplying every 2-3 hours. It was thicker when I first applied, but any leftover "white" disappeared in about 5 minutes on my skin. I did use this directly on my face as well. Initially I bought another face sunscreen that was running into my eyes and burning. Once I started to use Thrive for my face I no longer had that issue.I brought one bottle with me for 7 days. It was plenty for one person. If it was 2 people it probably would have been a little shy, if you are diligent about applying.

Title: Works great, but feels gross
Review: This stuff has prevented countless sunburns. I know that if I apply it, I am safe. The only reason it's not a 5 star is because it feels nasty when applied and if it touches anything else, it's gonna stay there. I applied before going to the beach and stopped for gas on the way. The outside of my car has sunscreen on it now and it doesn't wanna come off.

Title: Best reef-safe sunblock
Review: I tried around 8 different reef safe sunblocks. Australian Gold and Thrive were the best. The only reef safe sunblocks are those that use either non-micronized Zinc Dioxide, or non-micronized Titanium Dioxide. Any sunblock with other active ingredients may claim to be reef safe, but it isnât.Why wear reef safe sunblock? All water goes to the ocean eventually, so I try to use this stuff as much as I can. But you especially should wear it if youâre going anywhere near a tropical coral reef. Theyâre vital ecosystems that are having enough trouble as it is. Hawaii has already banned a few of the most harmful ingredients, though there are still plenty out there that are still technically allowed.Thrive spreads more easily and evenly than anything else Iâve tried. If youâre concerned with the aesthetics of lotion that is visibly white, definitely go with Thrive. Itâs pretty oily, but that oil allows the mineral sunscreen to be evenly distributed, even on hairy skin. This is from the perspective of someone who is relatively pale, so I donât know about people with darker skin. My guess is that is would visibly lighten you a tiny bit, but since it spreads so evenly, the lightness will be uniform.I would also argue that Thrive, along with most other mineral sunblocks, is functionally better than chemical sunblock. It protects you for longer, and stays on longer while youâre submerged in water. That said, Australian Gold is king when it comes to being functionally the best (itâs also cheaper). Thrive is cosmetically the best, and will probably protect you just as well if you arenât going in the water. One more word of warning, if you do try Australian Gold. Not all Australian Gold sunblocks are reef safe. They do make non reef safe, chemical sunblocks⦠make sure you buy the ones that say âbotanical.â As far as I know Thrive does not make a non reef-safe sunscreen, so thatâs another good reason to go with Thrive, to reward the company that has more responsible practices.

Title: Solid and would repurchase
Review: Love this sunscreen. It is thick and there is a bit of a white cast but for the beach trip it did more than a fantastic job. Alternated days using this sunscreen and another brand and this definitely did a better job of holding up and protecting our skin from really hot tropical sun. Love that itâs reef safe.

Title: Pleasant mineral sunscreen, but not super effective
Review: I know everyone loves this stuff. It has a pleasant, mild scent (kinda like a clean yoga studio), it goes on easily and seems to rub in without leaving a white residue. My skin seems well moisturized after I remove it (try an exfoliating scrub). But I burn when I wear it. Yes I reapply, so often that my wrist worn heart rate monitor can no longer detect my heartbeat through the sunscreen. It also doesn't seem particularly water proof, as it beads up into white spots on your skin if you get wet. A day at the beach with just a few minutes in the water and 5 reapplications resulted in a moderate burn to skin that already had base color from a summer in the tropics. Next time, I'll just wear a shirt and save myself the trouble of getting the stuff off.
