Let's say you're the coach of one of the NBA teams with the most championship banners hanging from its rafters, with every current and former player available on your bench. Game 7 of the Finals is approaching and it's time to put your team on the floor. Who's your starting center? Bill Russell, Robert Parrish, or Dave Cowens? Who's starting at guard? Bob Cousy, Jo Jo White, Tiny Archibald, Dennis Johnson, or Kyrie Irving? At power forward, are you playing Kevin McHale or Jayson Tatum? Is Larry Bird your small forward or John Havlicek? Combining statistical analysis, common sense, and a host of intangibles, long-time Celtics writer John Karalis constructs an all-time All-Star Celtics line-up for the ages. Agree with his choices or not, you'll learn all there is to know about the men who played for and coached the most successful franchise in NBA history.

Title: Fan of John’s & a good read
Review: I’ve been a fan of John’s as a writer and as a podcaster. Even his after game questions to the coach and players. I wanted a signed copy from his website but this was a little cheaper and quick to get. I’ve enjoyed the read and appreciated the history lessons on the players. He covers everyone, sometimes twice. I learned some new tidbits about players I didn’t know and appreciated the playfulness of the idea of putting together a historic team. I play a bit of NBA 2K so this is something I’ve done in a video game but never out as much thought into the chemistry and drive that a player had that might affect the team. It’s a good read and an easy read - not in a bad way. Almost like listening to a knowledgeable buddy talk about the team VS a dry text on shooting percentages and win rates.

Title: Really fun book!
Review: I really enjoy this delightful trip through Celtics history. This is an easy to read book that I think is well worth picking up and enjoying. Celtics fans of all ages and knowledge levels of the team’s history will be able to enjoy it. You can learn about great Celtics players of the past though anecdotes; as well through some light analytics! John really makes it fun and I think he pretty much nails his final team selection. Highly recommend!

Title: Boston Sports Fan: A MUST HAVE
Review: Man, I’m not much of a writer so I’ll keep this review short to spare you from it.This is my favorite basketball book and that may have something to do with the fact that I’ve lived in Massachusetts my entire life.. or maybe it was my friend showing me basketball highlights of KG being a badass at 2am getting stoned.. regardless of all that bias some serious work and passion went into this and the Isaiah Thomas excerpt brought me to tears reminding me of our “down but up” years.People just buy this book it’s really good. Read it in a day and gave it to me friend as a Christmas gift. I’ll be buying another copy to replace it.

Title: Must Have for Celtics Fans and Followers
Review: Great premise. Choosing top two at each position for a team with glorious history and too many Hall of Famers. The author is a blogger/podcaster who played basketball in college and in Europe. He did his homework as he didn't see all of the players in action. I did and he is pretty much spot on.There are several nominees for two spots at each position, plus a "wild card" and coach. Some have as few as three nominees, while others as many as a dozen. Karalis details the qualifications of each before selecting his top two.Three of the spots are no brainers for the top spot but the others are competitive. I can't argue with his choices though I might have voted differently, if asked. While not a political book, he touches on the racism of the early, and later days in Boston and gives you a personal look at what made these players great. My favorite part is the "wild cards" as many nominees were inserted for their important roles in the Dynasty Years, not as serious candidates for a bench spot on the team. It's an easy read and can be done a chapter at a time. I confess I had to peek to see the selections before getting into the details. The book is a treasure for Celtics fans but anyone who enjoys the NBA and its history will enjoy it too.

Title: Well written with a clear passion for basketball
Review: This isn't a boring academic book on basketball. It's written in "easy-to-understand" language, with humor sprinkled in. What I like most about this book is that it's based on more than just the author's opinion on who the "best" players are. He uses game statistics as an objective measure, but acknowledges that certain things have changed over the years (like game rules) which requires some subjective review before making a conclusion. As the author admits, with anything like this, it's not cut and dry. At worst, this book makes for a great debate among friends, and at best, it educates the reader on the history of the game and gives you an appreciation for what these great players have accomplished in their careers.
