On a sunny, hot day two boys sat on the basketball court of a park in a run-down section of Greece. They casually chatted and laughed as one took off his shoes and gave them to the other boy so that he could have his turn playing the sport it seemed like their long, athletic bodies were built for. But with no formal training, they were clumsy and awkward. No one would have thought to look at the two boys that one of them was destined to be the MVP of the NBA.Giannis Antetokounmpo tells the story of one of the best athletes in the game today, Giannis. From selling trinkets on Greek streets to thrilling sold-out arenas, Giannis has truly persevered and made a name for himself and a life for his family. In Giannis, you will hear the whole story and be inspired to overcome the adversity that you are facing in your life!

Title: Quick read for teens!
Review: Bought for my nephew for Christmas, he doesn’t like reading, but if it involves sports, he’ll get involved! One of his favorite players, quick read, great practice! He was very excited about it!

Title: Not what I was expecting
Review: This is a very thin book with no photos. I wish there was more to this book, but there is good information and my son enjoyed me reading it to him.

Title: Great Read for a Child
Review: This book is great for those parents who are caught in the remote learning cycle. If you have a young basketball geek in your home, this would be a great reading assignment for them. It's writing is clear and simple and oh yeah, the story is great and inspirational. This young man was in Greece and as we learn with hard work and determination made it to the NBA.

Title: Interesting read about an NBA player I knew little about
Review: The story of Giannis Antetokounmpo is interesting. From his humble origins in Greece, peddling sunglasses on street corners, to his discovery at age 13, bring drafted, and his rise to dominance in the NBA and Player of the Year in 2019, I enjoyed the ride. Its a success story about immigrants living the American Dream. Full disclosure: I was given a free copy of this manuscript but that did not influence my review.

Title: Good Solid Inspirational Read
Review: This was an enjoyable book about one of the NBA's rising stars that can be inspirational for kids and grown-ups alike. If you have someone in your family that likes reading books about athletes, then this is a good one to pick up. I learned a lot about Giannis by reading this book and it can remind young athletes of what it takes to be great and have a growth mindset.

Title: Good Biography
Review: This book is an excellent example of how to get young people interested in reading by giving them a subject they can warm up to. My only suggestion is the book could have used one additional round of editing. Most of the book is written in past tense, but occasionally the author slipped into present tense. In those instances it took me a minute to figure out exactly what time frame the author was in. But again, a good story and a really good read for young people.
