Title: Excellent product and an outstanding value. UPDATE for Essenza Mini
Review: UPDATE: One of my two Essenza machines (one for work, one for home) broke, and I bought an Essenza Mini to replace it. It seems very similar, except (1) it's more stylish, (2) it holds many fewer used pods, and (3) it's automatic, like the other machines, not a manual on/off control. But then I discovered that (4) they tightened some clearances so that the stainless steel Sealpod refillable capsules, which I discuss below, do not fit at all. However, the Capmesso capsules fit a bit snugly but work perfectly. Also, at the time I bought the Capmesso capsules they claimed they were usable at least 20 times, but I've far exceeded that by now and they continue to work well. The only ones that I've tossed are those I put in a bag for later & then forgot to empty & clean for too long (ie, weeks.) Don't do that.-----To start, I should mention that I drink a LOT of coffee, but only espresso. Because of this I have a Nespresso Essenza (Originaline model) at work and at home, and typically use 6 or more pods per day (most of them decaf - I'm as addicted to the flavor as to the caffeine). A single cup of coffee for me is 3 shots of espresso with about equal milk and an embarrassing amount of sugar or sweetener.Since this addiction was getting crazy expensive, I tried several off-brand compatible pods, and every single one was just... bad. Cheaper coffee poorly processed, clearly inferior to the Nespresso pods. Then I tried several refillable pods, but only liked the Sealpod stainless steel reusable pod; with some experimentation I was able to make an espresso that was comparable to the Nespresso pods. Buying 10 of them cost me over $100, but they worked very well and last forever. However, the new Sealpod foil caps for each use were expensive, and I discovered that Capmesso made foil lids that were actually a bit better, cost less, and were even available in both silver and assorted colors so I could distinguish between decaf and regular by color-coding the lid.So, when Capmesso came out with a reusable pod, I was both interested and skeptical. I'd tried four other types (and returned them!) before settling on the Sealpod, but these were somewhat different in design and much, MUCH more economical. So I took the plunge and I've been testing them alongside my Sealpods (and Nespresso pods) for several months now.Capmesso claims that these pods will last 10 or more uses, but will eventually need to be replaced. I don't know what the limit is, but I've *definitely* used them well over 10 times by now and I can't see much of a change over time. They work as well as the Sealpods, showing no difference in flow rate, flavor, crema or other qualities (all of which are much more sensitive to the coffee quality, grind, fill amount, tamping pressure, and the space you leave at the top below the foil.) One advantage of Sealpod is that you can remove the foil, then blow through the holes in the back and the used coffee pops out. In the Capmesso pods this technique doesn't work (the holes have little flaps that seem prevent a clean blow) so you usually have to tap tap tap tap on an edge for most (but not all) the used coffee to come out. That's not a big deal with one used pod, but of course I'm usually cleaning out a dozen or more at a time, so it's a consideration. But a bigger consideration is that when I only had Sealpods I used up my entire supply every other day, and then ended up using many more Nespressos at nearly $1 each. With 20 more Capmesso pods practically free I can set up a whole week's worth on a Sunday and save a bundle. In sum:Very, very highly recommended, and I recommend the Capmesso foil lids as well!Bonus: My recipe for making a Nespresso-quality espresso with reusable pods:If you don't have a burr grinder, but want to try these out, you can use Cafe Bustello, in the can, available inexpensively at most supermarkets. It's what they use for Cuban coffee all over Florida and it's delicious. The grind works well for reusable Nespresso-compatible pods - fill to the top, press down to compress, leaving a 1/16" or so space at the top (I usually add more after the first pressing). You can have different coffee beans and different flavors too but it's so cheap and easy to use Cafe Bustello I only really bother for the decaf pods. Proper tamping pressure and lid space will vary both by grind and by how you like your coffee, so experimentation is necessary. The Cafe Bustello decaf, for some reason, is ground coarser and won't work well in these pods. That forced me to buy a coffee grinder (after a couple of others I tried, I highly recommend the "OXO BREW Conical Burr Coffee Grinder") which I set to grind at 2 (of 16) and makes for a good fine grind of decaf beans (I really like "The Bean Coffee Company Organic Decaf El Grano Suave (Classic Colombian Excelso), Medium Roast, Whole Bean" for this.) This is finer than the Bustello so I suppose you could get away with a higher setting; I might try 2.5 at my next grind. My Essenza doesn't have a timer but 14 seconds seems to be about right.

Title: Excellent Results at a Great Value
Review: The Capmesso Reusable Capsules and Foils work great! I am very impressed with this system. I have been using a Nespresso Original Line machine (Lattissima Plus) since early on when Nespresso first started in the USA. I have enjoyed espresso and cappuccino for most of my adult life. I turned to Nespresso mostly out of convenience and reliability to get a consistent result at a somewhat reasonable price for such a style of coffee in the home. However, there have always been a few limiting factors to the Nespresso system. One was the ability to try other brands and artisan coffees with this system. Secondly, the wasteful impact of the pods themselves on the environment. Thirdly, the price per capsule was always elevated. While third party pods today are available, not all brands or artisans make them available. Many still demand a premium price for their convenience. Also, while Nespresso offers to recycle capsules, it means I need to separate the capsules and remember to trek them to a Nespresso shop which is not close by.Enter Capmesso. There are many benefits to the Capmesso capsules. First, they fit the original line system perfectly. I have no problems with the fit. Secondly, the capsules and foils appear to be well made. They are holding up well. The foils are fantastic as they adhere perfectly and I see no residual adhesives. I have been using Capmesso for two months. So I have had ample time to evaluate the system. Thirdly, the design of the capsule is excellent. The size of the pod is such that you can fill it with the correct amount of ground coffee. Also, the pods have three small vents at the bottom that open when you insert the capsule in your machine and close the machine top. The machine would typically insert three small hols at the bottom of a capsule. In this case, the material design of the capsule allows the bottom of the capsule to flexibly be pushed inward by the machine which then opens up the three small vents before any piercing would take place. The water then is pushed through at the rated pressure to deliver the proper amount of espresso. The foil at the top pierces perfectly with no problem.A couple of important notes to improve the quality of your espresso. There are a few variables that you must control to get a good shot of espresso. First is the grind. Many traditional espresso machines require an extraction time of about 20 to 30 seconds at the machine's rated pressure to get a high quality shot of espresso. With Nespresso machines, extraction times are often about 15 seconds with Nespresso capsules. The grind and "tamping" will determine your extraction time. This is important. If your extraction time is too fast, you will get a watery espresso. If it is too long, then the espresso can be bitter. I personally shoot for a time between 15 seconds to 30 seconds. If I go over 30 seconds, I'm okay with that. My espresso is still good. If I'm under 15 seconds, I do find that it can be a little too watery. So the key is the grind and the "tamping". I find that "espresso" or "Fine" grinds work best. I have experimented with Medium grinds for Drip style machines and for French Press. (more on those grinds in a bit.) With a Fine grind, you can fill the capsule to the top, then press down (tamp) gently. Then continue to fill a little more...and then press down more forcefully. You want to get a nice smooth, flat top on the coffee grind that is firmly seated in the capsule. Don't be afraid to experiment with how hard you tamp. If you tamp too hard, the shot of espresso will have a hard time coming out. So, next time, tamp it a little less forcefully. This, in combination with the grind itself, will control the extraction time and the quality. It's actually not very complicated and becomes quite easy. When I have tested Medium or Course grinds like for French Press or Drip Coffee, I find that no amount of forceful tamping will give me the correct extraction time. The extraction time is too fast resulting in espresso that will be watery if you use a Course or Medium grind. So, stick to espresso or Fine grind. Illy makes a Classic and Intenso Bold coffee ground for espresso machines. That works perfectly. I have taken some LaVazza Drip/French Press grinds and ground them further in a grinder to get a Fine grind. This made the LaVazza perfect. I did this because I had some of their Bold coffee for Drip machines. They do sell ground coffee for Espresso Machines. That would probably work perfectly. Again, be sure to press the coffee firmly in the pod to the top before sealing. Shoot for a shot to take 15 to 30 seconds. If it goes longer than that, you probably pressed (tamped) down too firmly. If it comes out too fast, don't be afraid to tamp down more firmly on the next capsule. I use their included spoon to fill the pods. I tamp down initially with the bottom of the spoon. Then I use my fingers to complete the tamping firmly, and then I simply seal using the foil. While being able to use any coffee I want to try, I am also happy that I am minimizing environmental impact and I am getting a very good quality Nespresso shot at an excellent price. This is why I say this system is great value. The only other thought I can offer is that it does take a very small amount of time. You do have to empty the pods, clean them, let them dry or dry them by hand, then refill them. I find time at night to do this. I typically do about 10 to 12 capsules at a time. I have a system where I can do this pretty quickly as I simply line them up, remove the seals, empty into a bowl, then clean, dry, and refill. Another note, after you dry or before you refill, remember to push the bottom of the capsule from the inside with a finger back to the original position. This will close the vents in preparation for the next use. Oh...about emptying the coffee into a bowl, I then take the coffee and use it in my garden. Yes...you can add the coffee to soil of many plants. It makes the soil a little more acidic which is great for me where our soil tends to be more alkaline. This gets my garden soil to a slightly better PH balance if you are into the whole world of gardening. Another great benefit of this Capmesso system.I hope this review is helpful to anyone using Capmesso already, or considering the product. I was not offered anything or paid for this review. I don't typically have time to leave Amazon reviews simply because I am usually busy with work and chores. I really should do reviews more often. But I love coffee and I know reviews can be very helpful. So, I wanted to help out fellow coffee lovers and share my insights of what I have learned with this system. Good job by Capmesso! I hope they continue in business for many years.

Title: They work great !!
Review: These refillable Nespresso pods work fantastic and are very thick and durable, but I will say one thing, After one use the bottom doesn’t pop all the way back out..Although this doesn’t really cause much of a problem upon reuse, I have noticed after the first use, you might get some minor leaking inside the machine... As far as the quality of the brew itself... The pressure seems to be correct and I get a perfect brew as if I was using an actual Nespresso pod !!! This will save me a lot of money and a friend recommended Bustelo espresso from Price rite and it’s actually surprisingly delicious !! I would definitely recommend these refillable pods !!

Title: Refilling capsules with freshly ground coffee
Review: These black capsules and foil lids work great. Once you dial in the coffee grind (not espresso powder grind, but a bit coarser) these worked great in my Essenza Mini. The foil lids are easy to apply and remove without leaving residue. Each capsule can be used many times. Don't forget to push out the bottom of the capsule after use. We have lovely crema on our espressos and lungos. I am so happy with the outcome that I just purchased 1000 capmesso foil lids at about 2 cents per foil. I'm recycling the foils by rinsing and gathering several into a ball and tossing in my recycling. Will recycle the capsules once they reach their useful life span. Read the instructions and reviews for hints. Check out YouTube video review on these black plastic capsules for hints on how to use.

Review: These are amazing and work just ask expected. You will not be disappointed. Also reusable pods. Just need to purchase more foil seals if you run out of the 100 in the package. Will buy more foil seals from same seller and reuse the pods as many times as I can to do my part and help the environment one nespresso capsule at a time!

Review: It's a sham! The expectation that the lids can be reused is preposterous. A small hole is created with every brew which makes it impossible to reuse the lids again. Product owner should send 200 lids with the 20 empty capsules. Absolute waste of money. I'd rather have bought originial Nespresso capsules, at least that would've provided me value for the money.

Review: These work great and are so much more environmentally friendly !! Not to mention cost savings ! I've used a few of the capsules several times in my Ninja Espresso & Coffee Barista. It can be a bit finnicky to stick the foil lids on, but its not overly challenging or anything to stop me from using them. Would sefinately recomend/purchase again !

Review: I have been using Nespresso capsules when I am at work, and I have been feeling bad for the fact that once used they will end up in a landfill. I have been using these for 5 or 6 times with no sigh of stress on the capsule and then you can use our own coffee. Never mind what you’ll be saving by not buying the store capsules. I recommend.

Review: For a fraction of the price, I am making tastier coffee with these reusable pods. It’s so easy:1) Fill the pod with your favourite freshly ground (finely ground but not too fine) coffee: first fill the pod half-way and gently press down the coffee with the back of the spoon that comes with the set, then fill with more coffee until a small gap is left and press down until you have a smooth surface (that ensures maximum crema for your espresso).- TIP: Don’t grind the coffee too fine OR press the coffee down too hard, otherwise it will be too densely packed and the water won’t be able to penetrate, so the water will back-up and fill the container at the bottom of your Nespresso machine.2) Stick the foil lid on the pod, first making sure that there are no coffee granules on the surface where the sticker goes.-TIP: Press the sticker down very firmly on the edges of the pod, so that there are no air bubbles (that ensures maximum crema for your espresso).3) Watch your freshly ground espresso brew!4) To clean, the sticker peals off very neatly and the plastic pod rinses off easily.- TIP: Make sure to pop the bottom of the pod back out before using it again.I will never drink my espresso from pre-packaged pods again: it’s expensive, it doesn’t taste as good and throwing away the pods make me feel bad every time!

Customers say

Customers like the taste, ease of use, and value for money of the coffee filter. They mention it's surprisingly delicious, easy to fill and use, and a great alternative to buying Nespresso pods. However, some are disappointed with the wateriness. Opinions differ on functionality, durability, and fit.
