Title: Great car entertainment accessory, has audio lag though
Review: This device is really simple - plug it into your vehicleâs USB accessory that controls Android Auto or Apple Carplay. The ottocast will appear as an option on your infotainment screen. By itself, that is all it will do - just appear as an option and say you need to connect an HDMI source. The real fun happens when you connect a chromecast, fire stick or other HDMI accessory. The video output is routed through to your carâs screen. I did notice an issue with the audio, though. Using a Chromecast and Android Auto, there was a significant (as in a second or so) lag in the audio. This makes watching things really annoying. Not sure if that is just with Chromecasts or not, but something to consider. Keep in mind this is merely nothing more than an adapter - you still need to supply your own media device and WiFi hotspot if internet access is needed.

Title: Video works great, but...
Review: The description on this states that it works with Android auto and Carplay. It does not. I confirmed this with customer service. I still use it for what I need it for, but wish it did support android auto. The video via HDMI works great though.

Title: Playing Nintendo Switch on our car's head unit!
Review: When I first heard about this product I kind of scoffed. Who the heck would want to watch TV or play video games while driving? Sounds like a recipe for disaster. That's when it hit me: ROAD TRIPS. I lost count of how many times we went on a road trip and couldn't decide on who got the play the Switch. Now, all the passengers can play (although read on for how legal this is). It's basically an HDMI input device that outputs to the car's head unit.Don't expect super-fast response; the signal is being sent through a microcontroller which translates the signal to CarPlay or Android Auto, so there's going to be some lag, although not nearly as much as I thought there'd be.Setup is remarkably easy. You just plug the USB cable into the USB port that accepts your iOS or Android device for wired CarPlay or Android Auto. Then, you plug the HDMI cable of your HDMI-out device into the unit. The unit will automatically recognize it.The only hiccup I encountered while using this was with the Switch. The HDMI output is from the dock, and the dock requires a much more powerful connection than the USB-C that outputs from the car. In this case, you'll have to buy a DC-to-AC inverter and plug your console's power supply into it.In addition to video game consoles, this will support TV sticks as well. You'll of course need a high-speed Internet signal to stream TV on the road. How legal is this? In most states it's illegal for a driver to be able to view a "television" while driving; that's why Apple and Google don't allow video apps through CarPlay or Android Auto, and YouTube and NetFlix don't support it. This unit does "work" while the car is running, and a driver who gets pulled over for distracted driving will almost certainly get a ticket. I'm actually a bit surprised that regulators haven't cracked down on devices like this yet given how litigious today's society is.That said, there are plenty of legitimate applications where this kind of device is perfectly fine. It's perfectly legal to use this, say, while parked at a rest stop, stopping for lunch, waiting for family members to run errands or do activities, etc.I've been using Ottocast's products for a while and I've been pretty happy with them. They're definitely a step above a lot of the generic brands you see with similar products.

Title: A lot of people have mixed up that this is a wireless carplay receiver, IT IS NOT.
Review: Something about the listing is throwing some people off to think this is a carplay/AA wireless receiver. To be clear, it is not. It is just an HDMI input that functions via Carplay/AA. I can't find anywhere on the page where it advertises itself as a wireless receiver, but perhaps the listing should include some explicit disclaimer since some people are clearly misreading it.For the HDMI input, the delay will depend more on your car than the receiver, it can range from pretty good to abysmal, it will not be the fault of the unit. This is a product that is very much going to depend on what you're plugging it into.

Title: 2021 E350 / Product does not have carplay
Review: The description states the product has wireless CarPlay in addition to HDMI. Product only allows you to use whateverâs plugged into the ottocaster. However, if thatâs what youâre looking for then itâs easy to install.

Review: Tv phone screen mirroring or gaming HDMI only.....This is a great product if you want use the head unit for other activities other than sat nav and music. It's super simple to connect and updating seems simple by typing in a serious of numbers to access the device remotely. The box was running then latest firmware. It's plug and play it takes minutes to set up. Screen mirroring requires a cable from phones charging port to HDMI not included. I could be useful for long car journeys for your passengers if you have kids or if you spend time in your car.It was a shame I couldn't connect the phone via Bluetooth or over a wireless network to allow me to access my phones library to play music or over other apps that also support music. It does state tv mate. So it does exactly what it's meant to do.I used a firestick I powered it via the USB port on the device it worked really well. You will need your remote.5 starsIt does what it's meant to do..

Review: This device lets you connect any device with HDMI output (such as Fire TV sticks, Nintendo Switch etc) to your car's wired Apple Carplay or Android Auto system.Plug your output device into the OTTOCAST, then plug the OTTOCAST into a USB-A socket on your car for power. If your car only has a USB-C socket then you can use the included adapter. Now on your Apple CarPlay or Android Auto display, you should be able to connect to the OTTOCAST.Note that if your output device (Fire Stick / Switch) requires a WiFi connection, you'll need to set your phone up with WiFi tethering.

Review: Setting this adapter up was surprisingly straightforward, and once running, it delivered solid performance without major delays. Watching streaming videos and playing games while on the road became a lot more enjoyable. There were some minor hiccups with the initial connection, but after resetting, everything worked flawlessly. For long trips, it transformed the in-car entertainment into something more engaging. While itâs not entirely perfect, itâs close enough to make long drives more bearable for everyone.

Review: Iâve been trying to connect this 'Car TV Mate' device to my iPhone to stream content to my car's console but I havenât been able to figure out how to do it, and the instructions provided are unclear. It seems I might need an HDMI to C cable, which I currently donât have, so I havenât been able to use the device as intended so i then tried using my Firestick, but that didnât work either. After reviewing the manual several times, Iâve realised the device is not compatible with my Range Rover Evoque. The car only has one USB port in the centre console, which Iâve learned is strictly for charging and not for data transmission. Unfortunately, it seems I donât have a data transmission port in my car, at least not one that I can see.Iâm really envious of others who are able to use this, as I was looking forward to catching up on some Netflix while waiting for the kidsâbut it looks like that wonât be possible for now.
