In the romantic tradition of Dear John, an injured Navy doctor meets two extremely important women whose secrets will change the course of his life in this number one New York Times best seller.
Trevor Benson never intended to move back to New Bern, North Carolina. But when a mortar blast outside the hospital where he worked sent him home from Afghanistan with devastating injuries, the dilapidated cabin he'd inherited from his grandfather seemed as good a place to regroup as any.
Tending to his grandfather's beloved beehives, Trevor isn't prepared to fall in love with a local...yet, from their very first encounter, Trevor feels a connection with deputy sheriff Natalie Masterson that he can't ignore. But even as she seems to reciprocate his feelings, she remains frustratingly distant, making Trevor wonder what she's hiding.
Further complicating his stay in New Bern is the presence of a sullen teenage girl, Callie, who lives in the trailer park down the road. Trevor hopes Callie can shed light on the mysterious circumstances of his grandfather's death, but she offers few clues - until a crisis triggers a race to uncover the true nature of Callie's past, one more intertwined with the elderly man's passing than Trevor could ever have imagined.
In his quest to unravel Natalie and Callie's secrets, Trevor will learn the true meaning of love and forgiveness...and that in life, to move forward, we must often return to the place where it all began.

Title: great book!
Review: I have always loved his books. This one is no exception! He is so gifted. I also like that most of his books have the setting in North Carolina. This one was also in Helen, Georgia which is a favorite place of mine.

Title: Different story
Review: I initially didnât like this story, but I kept reading. The more I read the less I disliked it.Firstly I was not enthused about the Hero, Trevor. He had been terribly wounded as a working Dr in Afghanistan. Anyway it took quite a ways into the story to accept him.The 2nd story was Natalie, which I accepted fairly easily, but with serious reservations. And the 3rd story âCallieâ kind of tied everything together. And interestingly the entire story boiled down to communications. The most open and bare was Trevor. Natalie was OK, but in an (in my opinion) impossible position. Nicholas really didnât have her communicating the way I believe she should have. And Callie tying everything together was just a very young scared girl. Now, having said all this, it was an excellent book that was great but I thought could have been better. And was definitely worth reading.I believe Nicholas Sparks is the author (today) that most of the other authors try to emulate, but really canât. And in my opinion mostly because almost all of the other authors succeed with one book and immediately make carbon copies of the successful book just changing a few key details, and that is so wrong. Sparks does not do that.And. That. Is. Appreciated.

Title: Masterful Romantic Tale
Review: The author Nicholas Sparks is probably one of the most skilled authors in his particular genre: romantic stories which involve us deeply in heart and struggle, as well as the difficulties life throws at us and what it takes to prevail. He has written 22 fiction books which are so good that eleven have been produced as movies. Not many authors have that kind of track record. In The Return, Sparks gives us fully formed, fleshy characters who are all dealing with something challenging, particularly the main three. Trevor, a Naval Academy graduate medical doctor who got blown up in Afghanistan and is putting his life back together; Natalie, a beautiful (what else) Sheriffâs Deputy whose life is on hold for graphic reasons revealed towards the end; and Callie, a young runaway with a really dark event hanging over her head. Most of the story takes place in New Bern, NC, where Trevor has gone to deal with his beloved grandfatherâs house. In addition to character, Sparks is a master at plotting, at keeping the story moving but with luscious details and just enough plot twists to keep us glued to each page. A love affair between Trevor and Natalie takes a long time to form, then suddenly fall apart, then⦠well, if you have read any of Sparksâ books, you know how the Epilogue will turn out.If youâre tired of politics or Jason Bourne-type action thrillers, The Return is a very pleasant retreat into the lives of well-defined, totally believable people dealing with their overlapping lives, heading to the kind of ending you know you want. Highly recommended.

Title: Just okay
Review: I got this book in hopes for a good story with some romance tossed in. While it was a slow storyline it gave you just enough with each chapter. Unfortunately, unlike the movie adaptations by this famous author I felt there to be no good resolution or satisfaction upon ending. Pretty much just left it plain and dry. I was disappointed.
