For the first time, critically acclaimed, New York Times bestselling suspense master J.A. Jance brings together her two most beloved creations: Arizona sheriff Joanna Brady and Seattle investigator J.P. Beaumont.
The dead woman on a cold slab in the Arizona morgue was a talented artist recently arrived from the West Coast. The Washington State Attorney General's office thinks this investigation is too big for a small-town female law officer to handle, so they're sending Sheriff Joanna Brady some unwanted help—a seasoned detective named Beaumont. Sheriff Brady resents his intrusion, and Bisbee, Arizona, with its ghosts and memories, is the last place J.P. Beaumont wants to be. But the twisting desert road they must reluctantly travel together is leading them into a very deadly nest of rattlers. And if they hope to survive, suddenly trust is the only option they have left . . .

Title: The evolution of an unlikely partnership.
Review: I enjoy reading all of the Joanna Brady novels, and the addition of Beaumont was clever. Even tho it was fictional, and someone had to get killed in the mystery genre, I regretted that Jance killed off a likeable and promising character. Also, I prefer that the writer doesn't use the cliché of having the local law enforcement resent the visiting investigator, but it wasn't too bad. There is an unexpected twist at the end - and I'm not sure it is really in character, but I'll let you discover that for yourself. It was a satisfying read, and I was happy to renew acquaintance with Joanna Brady and her staff, family, and friends.

Title: Wow, J.A. Jance has done it again!!
Review: I just received this book via UPS yesterday afternoon. I started to read it and before I knew it it was very late but I just could not put it down, it was that good. Ms. Jance has managed to place the 2 main characters of her 2 different mystery series together in a flawless manner. JP Beaumont and Joanna Brady are both tough people used to doing things their own ways, without interference from others. Imgaine being able to take 2 such alike people, blending them together and actually making it work And work very well it does too. The story reintroduces a number of characters from earlier Joanna Brady books. At last we know what happened to Angie Kellogg and Dennis, The Parrot Guy, Hacker, Willy and Archie, Bobo Jenkins, Kristin and Terry Gregovich and Junior Dowdle. The book goes in a side trip about JP Beaumont's 2nd wife Anne Corley who grew up in Bisbee. It was interesting to see how that secondary story was woven seamlessly into the main story line. The story was a three hanky weeper in places, during Yolanda Canedo's funeral and when Sadie the hound had to be put to sleep. All in all a terrific book from an outstanding author.

Title: Sheriff Brady meets J.P. Beaumont
Review: Sheriff Joanna Brady meets J.P. Beaumont, who has been sent from the State of Washington to observe the investigation of a murder case in Cochise County, Arizona. Beaumont, of course, is Janceâs other series protagonist, but this is his first case as a Special Homicide Investigator for the Attorney Generalâs office. The link is that the victim was in an eye-witness program from Washington. It also happens that J.P.âs second wife had been a native of Bisbee. J.P.âs bosses had enraged Joanna with their involvement and by withholding vital information, so his meeting with her is icy at best. The frost slowly melts, and they end up being productive colleagues. While she tracks down the killer, he tracks down the leak in the AGâs office. The story works well, and there are exciting moments chasing the killer, who is riding horseback down a ravine to the Mexican border. Jance provides a lot of background on Beaumontâs personal life and sets up Joanna with a challenger for her job by a disgruntled deputy.

Title: JA Jance is one of the better writers of our time.
Review: Any book written by J.A. Jance is compelling coupled with unexpected twists in the plot.  Her ability to create an interesting storyline takes the reader on numerous journeys and possibilities leading up to the end. When ordering my reading material, there is usually something written by J.A. Jance included in the order.

Title: Good Read
Review: I am working my way through the JP Beaumont series. Haven't read any of Joanna Brady series but will be doing so. I enjoyed this book and getting to know Joanna Brady and as usual, Beau is working hard on solving a case. Only thing I did not like about the book was the almost romantic minute between Beau and Joanna. Didn't really fit in the storyline and not really needed. I do recommend this book as it is a good storyline, keeps your interest and another great addition to the JP Beaumont series.

Title: J.A. Jance - Partner in Crime...
Review: After reading J. A. Jance's "Trial by Fire," (as a member of Amazon's Vine Program), I was more than a little curious to see what else Ms. Jance had written. Then, I stumbled onto "Partner in Crime." The snippets that were provided courtesy of Amazon's "look inside" just whetted my appetite even more. So, I purchased a copy, and started reading. Again, Ms. Jance's skills at story-telling more than come through, I really could see every character, every broken-down shack, adobe, Chico's taco stand, etc. As I am just now discovering Ms. Jance's work, there are a legion of people out there that know these characters intimately. I really am on the late freight! I won't bother to do what others have done in detailing plot. But I will say again, bravo Ms. Jance! Another well-written, well-spun tail of...suspense!My rating: Five stars!P.S., Should I go on to read other Jance novels, I'm going to have to get a notebook together and start keeping tabs on all the characters, for Ms. Jance seems to have an ARMY OF THEM! I dare any of you to try and keep up! How she manages, I'll never know...

Title: This one lost me
Review: I've been enjoying this series, although some of the characters have really irritated me from time to time. To be fair, they are very three-dimensional for the most part. And so I was able to accept those quirks/flaws and enjoy the stories. But it caught up with me in this one, and I got tired of it. I read the first ten chapters and then skipped to the end. And will likely not return to the series. I appreciate that not all characters are going to be nice, and not all characters are going to behave themselves well at all times. I further appreciate that some of the challenges here for me come from reading the story from a different time and perspective than when it was written. So this is just my perspective, and others will certainly disagree with me, rightfully so.

Review: Another excellent murder mystery from J.A. Jance. I enjoyed having Beaumont and Brady in the same story. The only sour note was at the end when the two have a brief sexual spark fly between them. It was totally unbelievable and completely unnecessary. Otherwise, a good read.
