"A crazier-than-fiction tale of three young gamblers, a Mexican drug cartel and the 1988 Kentucky Derby. - Horse Racing Nation
A Top 10 Amazon Best Seller: * Sports Biographies * Organized Crime
* Adventure & Travel * Sports History * Gambling
An inspiring true crime sports story about a filly who broke through the male-dominated world of horseracing and inspired crowds of men and women alike... along with a trio of gamblers who embark on an epic adventure... It's Seabiscuit meets Narcos, and the best non-fiction adventure and gambling story ever told.
When the gamblers unknowingly place their bet with members of a suspected drug cartel at a racetrack in Tijuana, Mexico, they must figure out how to claim their prize -- without getting killed in the process. In a heart-pounding race of their own across the U.S.-Mexico border, the trio come face-to-face with suspected killers, are arrested by the Border Patrol, and fumble their way through the riskiest bet of their lives.
- Los Angeles Times award winning sportswriter Steve Springer -
"The drama is just beginning at the Tijuana Mexico betting windows, after Winning Colors wins the Kentucky Derby!"
- Associated Press, USA TODAY, ESPN, SI.com award winning writer Brant James -
"80s nostalgia, high-stakes bets and some intrigue at the Mexican border make this a tale... Paul's description of picking out the perfect Miami Vice suit for a trip to Tijuana or his indulging in other tidbits from his youth, but the tale takes on a standard-def neon vibe that would go well with a score by Phil Collins".
- Tobias Schliessler, ASC, Cinematographer of Beauty and the Beast (2017), Dreamgirls (2006), and Lone Survivor (2013) -
"It's a wonderfully stylish and entertaining story filled with action, suspense, and a lot of heart."

Title: Winning across the border
Review: Amazing story of how 3 gamblers are able to become rich by placing bets on a filly to win the Kentucky Derby months before she was qualified. Also the story of her faithful groom and a jockey who was tuned into the greatness of this young filly.Loved the many whose faith made the dream come true for Winning Colors!

Title: And theyâre Offâ¦
Review: Interesting story in parts, with plenty of filling.I would have liked a better version of the border crossing with more detail. To me , that was the climax of the story. Unlike Seabisquit, this story was about the money. I knew from the book cover that she won the 1988 K.D.So I was surprised at the lack of drama from the author about the getaway.

Title: A book about horseracing and gambling.
Review: This reads like a self-published book by a one-time author. Worthy of a movie script, but would need to be rewritten as the subplots are weakly written. Enjoyable, but not compelling read.

Title: Great true story
Review: If you are a fan of horse racing, the back story about training the filly and the steps for entry into the Derby are very interesting. The book kept my interest. The extent of the involvement of the Cartels back in the 80s was surprising.
