Rosie was always told her red hair was a curse, but she never believed it. She often dreamed what it would look like under a white veil with the man of her dreams by her side. However, her life takes a harrowing turn in 1944 when she is forced out of her home and sent to the most gruesome of places: Auschwitz.
Upon arrival, Rosie’s head is shaved and along with the loss of her beautiful hair, she loses the life she once cherished. Among the chaos and surrounded by hopelessness, Rosie realizes the only thing the Nazis cannot take away from her is the fierce redhead resilience in her spirit. When all of her friends conclude they are going to heaven from Auschwitz, she remains determined to get home. She summons all of her courage, through death camps and death marches to do just that.
This victorious biography, written by Nechama Birnbaum in honor of her grandmother, is as full of life as it is of death. It is about the intricacies of Jewish culture that still exist today and the tender experiences that are universal to all humanity: family, coming of age, and first love. It is a story that celebrates believing in yourself no matter the odds. This is a story about the little redheaded girl who thought she could, and so she did.

Title: Indomitable Hope
Review: I have read many books about the Holocaust and WW2 over the years. This book, however, is different. Itâs absolutely riveting. The reader becomes intimately involved in the lives of its characters. Youâre drawn in to each personality, and find yourself continually rooting for them, especially Rosie. One thing I love about the book is that unlike some of the other books Iâve read, there is enough information to paint a clear picture of the horrors of the Holocaust, and yet it is not so graphic that a middle school teacher might reject it. If I werenât retired from teaching youth, I would require âThe Redhead of Auschwitzâ to my English class. We would then write letters to Rosie as a class. It actually makes me wish I had that opportunity! âThe Redhead of Auschwitzâ is a book is laced with the hope that Rosie infuses into even the darkest and worst circumstances. Her indomitable spirit forces both her and her sister to survive when so many others succumb to the nightmare theyâre forced to live through. And even after they are liberated, Rosieâs stubborn faithfulness to hope for a better world helps her build a life that has already created a beautiful legacy for generations of family.Although the recounting of the horrors of Rosieâs experiences are painful and difficult, âThe Redhead of Auschwitzâ is a must read for everyone. It is not only important to be educated on the realities of the Holocaust in order to prevent a repeat of history, but it is also a redemptive look into the strength, perseverance, and resilience of the human spirit.

Title: Beautifully told Story of Courage During Holocaust
Review: Some reviewers did not like that each chapter alternated from childhood memories of Rosie's to her memories of the horror's she and other holocaust survivor's endured. I for one loved the juxtaposition. In the start of each Chapter the dates and places where her memories take place are written so it is very easy to follow and understand. I cried so much while reading this book. The juxtaposition of her sweet childhood memories with the brutality of life as a Jew under the insane and frankly evil Nazi regime coupled with every day citizens behaving in such cruel prejudice hideous ways broke my heart. I have read many holocaust books. I had to read Dr. Mengle's book and Elie Weisel's night. Viktor Frankel. You get the gist. But having seen Rosie on instagram with her beautiful soul and her plucky courage and her teeny body that holds a universe of pain from evil and yet joy from all her love and her family brings her story to another level of humanity that is so utterly poignant. I would not have an immature teen read this book. There are horrors in this book that Rosie should not have endured at that young age. Therefore, in my opinion I think this book should be read by a mature 16 year old and older. Because this book details the horrors in such a concise manner. Sometimes it was hard to read because I am full of empathy. But this book is important to read! Rosie's granddaughter did a BEAUTIFUL job telling her Grandmother's life story. We must remember as readers how traumatic iscwas to live through the brutal hell of the holocaust and to be a holocaust survivor's loved one and to know the horror they lived through each day. Remember this when you read this book people. I love Rosie and her granddaughter even more now for being so courageous and to share this gift to the world. We should never ever forget so that we can stop evil and practice love.

Review: What an unbelievable book. When the world keeps on descending into believing people are less worthy, this reminds us that this has happened in the not so distant past. This book is a warning of what hatred and indifference brings. Rosie is a beacon of hope, resistance, and tenacity. She took so many chances. She had such pluck. Such a daring streak. All because she wanted to live. And live she did. And what a legacy she has become. I had tears steaming down my face after reading the epilogue and afterword. I have been to Auschwitz twice, to Thereisenstadt, and to many other camps. And they were horrifying. To live it? I canât imagine. We owe it these survivors and to those who did not survive to learn their stories. To learn about their beautiful lives before hell descended upon them. They are all heroes.

Review: To Rosie and Nechamah:I finally finished reading #TheReadHeadofAuschwitz. Thank you Rosie for sharing your terrible experience thru the Shoah. For not giving up and always willing to go back home, for your still beautiful smile and soul.Neshamah thank you for having the courage and time to write in such a perfect way the good moments of Rosie's life before Auschwitz, which let us the readers love and cherish all the family members, making them live in our memories for ever. And what a way to take us by hand to the details of all the terrible suffering Rosie went thru. This is a must read book for all the youth who are being misinformed or not informed at all of what hate can do. Hopefully your and Rosie will to spread the word becomes a reality.May we never see such destructiveness in our world.

Review: Rosieâs war story is told with honesty and clarity. What stood out for me was the unbelievable ability of a young girl to keep going (and keep believing in the future) when she has nothing to eat for days on end. The impossibility of the work she is expected to complete and the cruelty of her captors are enough to kill a person within a few weeks. Rosie endures daily humiliation, filth and disease for months. Her relationships with her family and especially her sister are described in such a way that you will remember the various personalities for a long time. The best book I have read for a while.
