Title: A very polished effort from a true wordsmith
Review: Yet another great album by Arlo.IMHO, the best song is "When a soldier makes it home". Sad as hell but unfortunately true, over and over again. The rest of the album is a very polished effort from a true wordsmith.Reflects the many different faces (facets) (aspects) (directions) (personalities) of Arlo.I misplaced my first CD copy so I ordered this one.It is now carefully put away while I play it from my music server.(Still missing one CD.)

Title: and this is terrific. In 1996
Review: I have every album Arlo ever made (and that's a heck of a lot), and this is terrific. In 1996, he had this one last great record in him (I don't think he's even attempted anything as challenging since). A must for Arlo fans.

Title: Oooo-la-la Arlo
Review: I really like this recording. It's so mystic it puts you on a journey. Arlo's second best album.

Title: not one of Arlo's best (by a long shot)
Review: I own the entire Arlo Guthrie catalog and this collection is at the bottom of my list of favorites. Not sure why it these songs seem so banal to me, but I strongly suggest you listen before you buy.

Title: Welcome back, old friend...
Review: Although I've enjoyed Arlo ever since the first release of "Alice's Restaurant", I had not actually purchased a Guthrie release since "Washington County" and "Hobo's Lullaby" about 30 years ago. Just a case of too much good music in the world, too few dollars to buy it with and a shortage of hours in which to do attentive listening. However, last month I had a chance to get this CD at a great price, and I went for it. I've played it about ten times, and like it better each time around. This is mostly mellow, truly mystic as the title promises, but not "New Age Boring." Arlo's voice, like his father's takes a while to grow on a person. His lyrics, again like his daddy Woody, reward focused listening at first.I think all 11 songs here are good, but one he didn't write really gets in the heart quickly..."You Are the Song". Glen Anthony did the lyrics, Charlie Chaplin the music, but Arlo really nails this corny love poem, making it powerful rather than prissy. If you just read the words, it feels too wimpy for a guy to recite to his woman. But when Arlo sings it, somehow it works. One Arlo did write that packs a punch is called "Doors of Heaven." (Think about it being his version of John Lennon's "Imagine"---I like Arlo's song better.) To sum up, if you EVER liked Arlo, you'll like this CD. If you aren't familiar with his work, but you are a bit folky, a bit liberal, a bit spiritual...well, you'll like it too. Women may like it more than men (There is no equivalent to "Alice's Restaurant" or "Coming into Los Angeles" on this one) but I'm a guy, and I like it, too. So there!

Title: again, again and then
Review: Arlo Guthrie was my touchstone in the late sixties and early seventies for the hope that what began as a youth power movement of freedom and inclusion in the post-Woodstock nation might blossom into a Genetically Weird World Free of the Fear of Conformity.I didn't do drugs. I dreamt and imagined. I was lonely and scared and knew I had only one shot at being alive. This compilation of really, really awkwardly made and equally awkwardly sung and produced music is just something you should own. As an anomally to your collection. As a tribute to freaky faith. This is something you should own just because you can.Susan
