Digitally remastered 40th Anniversary Edition of the 1971 debut album from the legendary Soul singer/songwriter. Produced by Booker T Jones, it led him spending 14 years having regular appearances in the R&B charts. 'Harlem' is an underground classic and was the original A-Side release before 'Ain't No Sunshine', the b-side, received massive attention and the sides were swapped over for later issues. The bluesy 'Grandma's Hands' reached R&B #18 and Pop #42 shortly after it's release. This song will be familiar to all fans of the R&B #1 hit 'No Diggity' by Blackstreet feat Dr Dre and Queen Pen. Also featured on is Bill's amazing cover version of the Beatles classic 'Let It Be'. BBR.

Title: Recomendado, no duden en comprarlo

Title: Be still my heart!
Review: He's hip, he's hop and he's all heart. If I could sing like any human ever it would be Billy. Where did he get that voice - the highs, the lows, the mids, the truthfulness? That manner of expression, the sly, but modest knowing? I swear I adore this man. How the hell he ever got a record contract still baffles me. How did some A&R ear hear it...get it? He shouldn't have happened, but he did. Nevermind his influentialness given the fact that you hear his songs covered or sequenced constantly on TV, radio and film. But Bill Withers is a songwriter first and a hitmaker second. Still Bill and Just As I Am are proof. The DVD documentary on the 'B' side, which was made about four years ago, displays our present Bill as aged to perfection, funny, vulnerable, unfooled, pointed and not a drop less Billy then he ever was. All the same characteristics you'll find in this collection. Please know that anyone who can steal, Let It Be off the Beatles..is one humdinger of a raw talent. And further note, I have never heard anyone cover his work and be dead on. Not one is there. Some sincere efforts, but no one can capture whatever is it that Bill Withers puts out. Whadda beauty!

Title: Just As I Am ... the real deal
Review: One of my all-time favorite albums of the '70s, and it's just as great as my memories of it. Bill Withers -- what a great talent he was. "Just As I Am," exactly right! Nothing bogus, nothing fake, take him for who he is or just don't bother. The bona fide real deal. Just check out his own Harlem and Ain't No Sunshine, the terrific covers of Everybody's Talkin' and Let It Be, and lord almighty, his heartrending Grandma's Hands. Makes me well up with tears and think of my own late Gram whenever I hear it. So glad to have an upgraded version of this classic album in my collection. Highly recommended!

Title: An awesome first album
Review: An awesome first album, full of soul and enthusiasm. I love the soulful music of the 70's and this one is a real gem, not to mention the amazing, ahead of it's time track 'Ain't no sunshine'. The rhythms are way ahead of the trip hop sound, which it undoubtedly influenced, and Bill's voice so wonderfully embodies the story of heartache and love. A must have for soul lovers.

Review: An excellent album, one that gave a soundtrack to my youth in London, running a venerable old folkclub, as it happens - this (along with Still Bill) was on a double cassette, straining to be heard over the wheezing of a huge ancient Gaggia coffee machine. Largely featuring Booker T and The MGs, plus Steve Stills on guitar, rather than the unavailable Steve Cropper, Just As I Am is a real musical force: BW's vocals are so strong and direct and his lyrics written and delivered with such real emotional honesty that these songs still stand up well today. Anyone who could write Ain't No Sunshine, let alone Grandma's Hands or the others on this fine debut, could do no wrong after I first heard them. Great recording too, from the era of great mixing desks, a full range top-to-bottom mix with none of the low-end cut-off that a modern record displays (I was listening on studio monitors, with no Gaggia this time), the band laying down their trademark groove in perfect sync with the songs...

THE END
