Title: glad this classic was re-released
Review: I had the cassette version when it first came out in the 70s. I'm glad I got the vinyl version. It has the nostalgic Budah label and the pressing is excellent. Heavy vinyl insures audio quality.

Title: The best live album I've ever heard...
Review: I'm surprised that this isn't mentioned in the same breath as B.B. King's "Live At The Regal" and James Brown's "Live At The Apollo" as one of the best live albums ever. The energy of this performance is amazing and the crowd is so into the music that the whole disc is just ELECTRIC. The live version of "Use Me" is SO good, with the whole crowd clapping on the off beat. Best of all, after the band jams on the song for seven minutes, you can hear the shouts of "One more time!!" from what sounds like the back row of Carnegie Hall. Bill Withers asks the crowd, "One more time?" and the place goes nuts, at which point the band launches back into the song without missing a beat. This is just one of the moments captured here that can only be described as magical. The appreciative round of applause that Withers gets from the crowd after delivering an amazing vocal on "Hope She'll Be Happier" is also noteworthy. Bill Withers really possessed a natural talent for songwriting; his lyrics are simple and direct but say so much. The middle verse of "World Keeps Going Around" where he describes the dating chain of the narrator with a few different women is amazing. Songs like "Grandma's Hands" and "I Can't Write Left Handed" are incredible lyrically also. This was a great performance where everything just clicked: great songs, a tight band, and an enthusiastic crowd. This should be essential listening for everyone. The finale of "Harlem/Cold Baloney" is so awesome. Bill Withers gets the whole place to chant "shake em on down" as he leaves the stage. What an ending! This album is really an unsung masterpiece.

Title: Review of Bill Withers at Carnegie Hall.
Review: Bill Withers is amazing. His banter with the audience is great. I truly wish I had been able to see him in concert. When I am listening to this cd in my car, I start bopping along with the music. I canât help it. I must look really strange to other drivers/passengers! ððð

Title: Vintage Bill!
Review: This is a fantastic recording of one of the most important albums of the 1970s.. hell, simply put, one of the best live albums EVER... Bill is in a particularly warm and friendly mood the evening this was recorded, and it shows... His banter with the crowd in between songs is magnificent, and one gleans a unique view into the mind and spirit of one of the most influential artists of the 20th century.. 10/10 ! A must own! Get it, you'll not be disappointed.

Review: Live albums are often dubious affairs- heavily edited and multiple over dubs, but not this one. This is a classic example of how a live album helps define an artist at their best- as in the case of BB King and James Brown, bringing out those qualities that a studio recording can only hint at. Recorded in 1973 at Carnegie Hall we get to hear Bill Withers and band in their natural element. Bill Withers is a great songwriter and a great communicator. In addition, He and his band just fizz creativity- they groove, they relax and they get soulful but without ever having to seem forced. There is no over playing (a common failing of live albums), the band are tight and Bill is in great voice. It would be difficult to over praise this album, particularly as it features so many great tunes, and not just the famous ones like âLean on Meâ and âAinât No Sunshineâ(which receive wonderful readings) but also the hard hitting âI Canât Write Left Handedâ and the stunning funk workout that is âHarlem /Cold Baloneyâ. Bill Withers is not some slick soul act, but a serious writer and performer, hear him plumb the depths on âBetter off Deadâ and believe. Of course mention must be made of the introductory track, that paean to infatuation, âUse Meâ, here the groove and the yearning combine to a produce something unforgettable. The recorded sound captures the concert in a very realistic fashion, the next best thing to have being in the audience.Recommended.
