Title: It ain't so bad. In-fact, it's good.
Review: I am shaking my head in disbelief of all these negative reviews of this album and wondering if I am listening to the same album. I am, only I like this kind of music. Only thing I can think of is that the negative reviewers don't care much for accoustic folk mixed with elegant blues and nice harmonics. Yes it's mellow. Yes they sound weary/tired but that's what I want to hear. Folks complain about the lyrics. IN-fact, they're pretty good lyrics. I don't understand the blasts towards the Stills' tracks. "Seen Enough" and "No tears left" equal the best of what Clapton/Stevie Ray Vaughn does in terms of raspy/blues. Stills is a legend and deserves better than the slamming he gets. I always thought Stills was a better singer than Clapton and these tracks are his best since "Southern Cross". "Faith in me" is also good considering Stills spent some of his childhood in Panama (which is why he has latin numbers every so often). The Neil Young songs are also very good and better than any on his "Silver and Gold". "Looking Forward" is already a NY classic to me. The Nash and Crosby songs are also very well crafted. Alot of variety from mellow sounding accoustical folk pieces to (surprisingly) heavy rockers in the Stills songs. Even though this came out in 1999, it has a refreshingly nostalgic 70's sound most of the way thru. I think the negative reviewers of this album on this web-site are disappointed in this album because it does not sound like Madonna or Stained or some of the newer music. Much better than "American Dream" and of the same quality as "After the Storm". They are NOT finished and have prooved it to me with this album. I love the fact that they avoided most of the new music cliches and put out an album that reflects true/natural instruments with natural harmonics that are not computer or digitally enhanced. No casio drum machines or plastic synths here. Rather, accoustic and electric guitars, pianos and electric organs and their vocals. Easily could have been recorded in the 70's. I play accoustic guitar these days and see potential to play some of these very nicely crafted songs. Maybe this is why I like this album? If you like accoustic guitar and folk-rock like melodies, you should like this album.DEFINITELY DOES NOT DESERVE THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS THAT IT GETS AND I THINK IT'S BETTER THAN JUST ABOUT ANY OF THE SONGS VH1/MTV HAS BEEN AIRING IN THE LAST 5-10 years. I can guarantee you just about that most of today's bands won't be able to write songs of this good quality when they're in their 50's. Heck, look at the (..stuff )that Lenny Kravitz and Mick Jagger are doing now. This stuff is much better. No it's not Deja Vu or their first s/t album but it's not (..stuff) either. In-fact it's good and reflects the band's ability to still be able to write good songs even into their 60's. I hope they make more albums. A pretty good album by a legendary band.

Review: Looking ForwardYou wouldn't be reading this now if you were after the Hot Latest Product, so this review will be aimed at those who know whoa) know who these artists are & have been -- musically, personally, politicallyb) [like me] had given up on buying their albums after their late 80s releasesc) wonder if they missed anything in not buying this album.First, the sound of it:The late 80s saw many a former stalwart drown in awful overproduction, later to come contritiously crawling back in the 90s. In this light, LOOKING FORWARD was right on target, even if the more organic sound may simply have been cheaper to produce. For whatever reason, LF is certainly closer to the sound of their 1969 - 1982 releases, with only the occasional over-produced sing-along ["Stand And Be Counted" comes to mind] threatening to tip the cart.Content:Some have complained about the quality of the songs, particularly Neil's. This of course pits the artists against the best of their own past catalog, when they were younger & more energetic. Fair enough: age & experience should bring perspective, so we expect depth to compensate for lesser intensity. This they largely do -- sure, nothing rocks quite like the more aggressive tracks from 30 years ago, but they were a lot younger then.Standouts:"Faith in Me" is a strong start, and Stephen shows a Dylan influence in "Seen Enough" for good results. "Dream For Him" seems to just grow better on repeat listeing, as Crosby's songs often do. Neil's title track is both humble and engaging in the way Neil does so very well, anticipating the PRAIRIE WIND album to come, and Graham's "Heartland" sounds the way a song with that title should (in a good way).Complaints:Well, the album's energy does run rather low by the end. And sometimes the everyone-sing-along production feels a little forced. It would indeed have been nice to have a strong NY rocker or two in there, had he any to contribute at that time [he didn't].Conclusion:Solidly done with good standouts. Think of their collective releases from the late 70s [or even the later releases SONGS FOR SURVIVORS, MAN ALIVE and CROSBY & NASH]: each of those has enough high points to feel like a worthwhile purchase, and the body of work as a whole improves when heard together. LOOKING FORWARD anticipates those albums in range, production quality and lyric perspective, sometimes even equalling them. Put short, they still got something -- maybe not enough to win new converts, but enough to please those who know how they like CSN to sound. On a scale from "Forget It" to "Essential", rate this "definitely worthwhile"

Review: I never read reviews prior to buying music so when i bought this "looking forward" album by CSN&Y and placed it in my cd player i admit i raised an eyebrow with the 1st track (faith in me) which i didnt like from the get go but....and heres the thing!! what an wonderful album!! to my ears it has all the same vibes and quality as DEJA VU with the 4 members contributions bringing a variety to the songwriting and music presented here. Its a great album and stands up well aloneside anything this band (in all of its forms...CSN/CSN&Y/C&N/STILLS OR YOUNG) have put out...and yes i had a little "faith" and i now even like Stills "Faith in me" which opens the album. So please give this album a few spins, its a grower for sure.Stand out tracks for me are...Looking Forward....Heartland...Dream for him and the touching Sanibel.Still relevent in 2013 as they were in 1969! still singing about injustice with the world leaders who are also blindly conducting themselves as they did in 69 and thoughout the following decades. Heres a band that has more than most and will always "Stand and be counted"Richie..
