NTSC Region 0-UK release. Mario Lanza was the most famous tenor the world had ever known. The greatest tenors of the modern era - Pavarotti, Carreras, Domingo and Bocelli - all trace their inspiration back to Lanza who became the first true crossover artist when MGM made him a matinee idol during the 1950s with box office hits such as The Toast of New Orleans, The Great Caruso and The Student Prince.

Title: Mario Lanza! The Tenor Voice of The 20th Century. Sexy, Charismatic & Handsome to Boot!
Review: I have loved Mario Lanza since I was a little girl when my Father took me to see "The Student Prince" in the 70's. I couldn't believe the voice I was hearing...so beautiful, so passionate...so unforgettable! My Dad explained that the man "singing" on screen was not Mario Lanza, he was called Edmund Purdom. He lip synched well, however, the fact MGM allowed Lanza to walk from this picture because of a clash of personalities with the director (a rather rude man, by all accounts, who was instructing the greatest voice in the world how to sing!). How wonderful it would have been to have seen Mario in that movie in his prime. The soundtrack songs he recorded were some of the most exquisite renditions of songs I have ever heard. And what a huge tribute Allysa Lanza gives to her father's memory. She is the only remaining of his four children, and she is so lovely, kind and sincere. It is such a tragic story, however, her memories of her father are beautiful and his voice just takes your breath away. The only thing I can say felt a bit out of place was close to the end the documentary switches to showing clips from a show paying tribute to Lanza. Hearing the tenor in this show sing....sorry, but it was like following a steam shovel with a spoon. Nobody could follow Lanza in his prime. That few minutes aside, this documentary was beautifully done. I cried my eyes out as the credits rolled to Mario's astounding, breathtaking version of "Golden Days." Bravo!!!!

Title: A beautiful voice and a beautiful human being.
Review: I wasn't a fan in my youth but today it's a different story remembering the 1950's and the 60's and his voice. And how very good looking he was. And that he was very caring about his family sadly there was much drinking and much eating being that I to loving eating Mexian food. And I also love Italian food I had grown up with an Italian uncle who just loved cooking so I too had a weight problem ever since I was a child. And the pressure to preform takes its toll on the human body which hasn't changed in Hollywood today in 2019. It's very sad to lose such a talent man with such a beautiful voice but also a blessing to have children to keep his memory going. Thank you for sharing this video.

Title: The Greatness of Mario Lanza
Review: Is this a perfect biography of Mario Lanza? No. It does, however, give Lanza fans and those who may have never heard of him, insights into his life and career. I first heard Lanza as a small child and was thrilled by his voice. He brought opera into the lives of many who might never had heard it. The film has interesting stories by Mario's daughter. It shows his was a joy of great joy and great sadness. Those that want to pigeon hole Lanza as just another pop singer don't understand the magic of his voice. He never claimed to be another Caruso. That title was forced upon him.

Review: This special does provide a most informative view of Lanza. The musical clips are outstanding and thecomments by Elisa Lanza Bergman bring a warm humanity to the subject. This is a superiordocumentary to the others released in past years. The remarks by contemporary artists Russell Watson , Lesley Garrett and others do elevate this program and helps in educating no-sayers who have often chosen- for whateverreasons, to belittle Lanza's natural talents and his ability to musically cross-over by virtue of his great repertoire. Recommended.

Review: I heartily recommend "The Best of Everything." Aside from touching reminiscences from Mario Lanza's only surviving child, Ellisa, and fine biographical commentary from Derek Mannering, it includes some astute musical observations from tenor Gianluca Terranova, soprano Lesley Garrett and voice teacher Anthony Wade (aka "Dr. Voice"). The most outstanding contribution, however, comes from reigning contemporary tenor Joseph Calleja, whose spot-on comments about Lanza's voice, technique and expressiveness take the documentary to another level. What I also love about it is that Mario Lanza himself often serves as the doco's co-narrator. He's telling his own story here, and the documentary makes skillful use of various TV and radio interviews. As a further bonus, the DVD includes Lanza's magnificent live performance of 24 November 1957 at the London Palladium in excellent quality. It's a balanced documentary, and ultimately a very moving one. Congratulations to all involved.
