Review: This is a compilation of some of John Prine's many hits. He has too many to restrict their telling to one CD.Prine has been said to be the Songwriter's Songwriter. He has been covered by Bonnie Raitt (Angel from Montgomery) and Bette Midler (Hello in There), and more. These singers bring the lyrical sweetness to what is already there, and enhance the tune. While some may not care for his vocal tones, or appearance, Prine just keeps going on knocking out the songs. Songs melodic, and ever so descriptive of whatever human condition he's looking at. He is often with just his guitar to project the melody. On this CD, Prine wings it alone, not with his ex wife joining in, as she has done, not with another singer to diminish the urgency he feels in presenting this song, this human condition, this THING that perhaps only he sees. Prine is a NAM vet. I think his experiences there have contributed to the frank poignancy that his songs contain. Last year, in my hometown, Prine had a concert, and the cheap seats were $400. How much is the CD? Where do you want to go to hear a seminal talent, the likes of Carol King? Prime Prine: The Best of John Prine

Review: Wonderful. I had not listened to Prine since 1970's when I learned a few songs of his on guitar.I had lots of his words to songs, but I could not remember the tunes, so I bought this. I knew 4 songs, but I love all of them. There are 12 & are great for folks learning to play guitar or bass or learning to sing; this is because there are only 3-4 chords in most and you can understand every word he sings. Not just folk music per se; there is bluegrass, love songs,etc. Sam Stone, Saddle In The Rain, Please Don't Bury Me, The Great Compromise, Grandpa Was A Carpenter, Donald & Lydia, Illegal Smile, Sweet Revenge, Dear Abby, Souvenirs, Come Back To Us Barbara..., and Hello In There, will make your day most enjoyable and relaxing. CD was in mint condition-no skipping or any problems. Shipped perfectly as well and I am very pleased.
