I was a thief of men…a whore. Not the conventional type that got paid for sex. I was the girl you talked about in your sad inner circle. The girl you shielded your boyfriend from as you cleverly covered him with your body when I came near. I was a threat to you. Keeping him safe in your grasp was smart. One week...one incredible week was all it took to forever change me. I was NEVER going to be you … until I met HIM.

Title: Edge of tears throughout!
Review: Never Me is stated to be a companion book to Room 212 and the Reluctant Romantics (starting those the next time I need to have my heart ripped out of my chest and faucets to be broken in my eyes, nose, and throat). But this book, by itself – just stick a fork in me. I am done. I am so done. Author Kate Stewart has ripped my soul to absolute shreds once again. I am honestly on the fence as to whether this hurt me harder than Exodus. It doesn’t help that Exodus is my current listening book in my car and on the same day this book decided to shoot me in the heart for like 40 pages I was also being subjected to Chapter 25 (the bad one, not the good one 😡).I think this one hurt me more because I have lived this experience to a degree. The meeting someone for the first time, spending a whirlwind week with them, only to have been left shattered, crying in the ticket line at the airport as the journey came to an end and we had to figure out how to exist 2000 miles apart. The chokehold began barely 40 pages in when Spencer whispers, “I don’t think I’m going to survive you” and I was immediately on alert, feeling the rush of emotion building up around my ribcage. I tried to put some emotional cushion around me because I felt the impending doom creeping – knowing that Kate wouldn’t be Kate without cutting me deeply. First aid kit (read: box of Puffs Plus) on hand and ready to go.Best part, I think, is that she did the slow burn perfectly. So frequently I read a book that’s supposed to be slow burn, but the characters don’t even cross paths for the first 50% of the book. That’s not slow burn, that’s just happenstance. But Nadine and Spencer feasted on each other’s energy throughout – the touches, the looks, stolen moments – all cataloging to a cataclysmic coming together that neither could deny or avoid. It was so perfect, and I felt every searing second of it to my core. I’m not usually a fan of a book that insists a love story developing in such a short period. Most authors fail to deliver the suspension of disbelief required to pull this off without me rolling my eyes and yelling at the pages. But this book demanded the abbreviated relationship building and was in fact central to its overall delivery. It is, in essence, the story.I was again worried about how much of a story could Stewart actually give us. This book was a piddling 202 pages. But she delivered a full and satisfying conflict/resolution without missing a beat. The characters were complete. They were 100% developed on page – even the side characters like Ellie and Amy & Jack who all go through their own mini conflict/resolution moments. There was growth, change, angst, trauma, healing – all inside the power packed words that left nothing hanging.Do I want it to be longer? Absolutely. Do I crave more Nadine & Spencer story? Dumb question. But, as it stands, at its length, am I missing any piece of their story from start to finish? No. It’s a testament to how well Stewart can use the perfect words to tell the complete story with all the angst and emotional trauma her characters (and readers) need to get from their start to their end.Another 5-start read. Now off to read some cozy, dark stalker romance with inappropriate weapons handling to heal myself before I can delve into the next KS book.

Title: Starts Out Weak, Finishes STRONG
Review: Never Me is my second Kate Stewart book and I will have to say, I am a big fan of her writing. She creates a female character with a tough outer shell she shows to the world, while just wanting to be loved like anybody would.Nadine is young, too young to be as bitter and broken as she is. Having a tough childhood, no mother around as she and her father scrimped to get by, helped fuel her attitude. Nadine is playing a game with men so she can guard her heart. The ones that attract her most, are men who are already taken. She stalks her prey, approaches them, then waits to see if they show up. Which they usually do. Besides her father, Rory is the only other person Nadine lets get close to her. She keeps the walls around her heart up nice and high to avoid getting hurt.Feeling stuck in a rut, Nadine and Rory head out on a road trip to Florida. On their first day there they meet a group of friends that welcome them to their group. Jack and his wife Amy, Spencer and Ellie were also on a little vacay in Florida and invited the girls to hang with them. Of course Spencer, the player in the bunch sees that it is game on with Nadine instantly. The gang hits the bars and beaches together, leaning about each other as they go. Nadine and Spencer start a nasty game of cat and mouse once they realize what the other is made of. Neither one looking for a permanent relationship, they are on vacation and very attracted to one another. The stakes are now amped up and real feelings start get out.Spencer knows he can't have Nadine, he is too busy with his life back in Philly and she is emotionally unavailable to say the least. Even knowing all of this, he invites her and Rory to spend a few days with them in New Orleans. This is where the magic begins and the walls start to crumble.Nadine is a different girl in her head when she is around Spencer. He brings out the good and bad feelings she has about herself, however the bad ones are the only feelings that get through. Even with the fantastic time they had, Spencer and Nadine know they must move on separately. Easier said than done. Spencer is a charmer with lines like this when they finally part, "And what I want is every inch of you covered in me. I want you to remember me." as he heads back to Philly and Nadine back to Oklahoma. This is where the book moves forward and really picks up speed. This is also where I realized how important the beginning information about the characters was to understand them. We find out more about the past for Nadine and Spencer and how it shaped who they became to be. Finally Nadine and Spencer move on with their respective lives, never repeating the feelings with others that were felt New Orleans.Never Me is well written and sexy as hell. Both of our main characters are flawed, however those flaws worked together perfectly for them. It is a story of life, love and learning to live again. The book is a stand alone and wraps up nicely. Kate Stewart has a great take on the long lost love genre. First we get room 212 and now we get post it notes. Love it!

Review: Never Me by Kate Stewart4.5 stars!!“I’m not the guy who gets you, Nadine.” His voice was shaking like mine. I looked up to see his face twisted. “I’m not the one. As much as I want to be, I am not the guy who gets you.”From the blurb you think that Nadine is going to be one of those girls you hate but nothing could be further from the truth. Nadine has loved once…a mistake that she will never repeat again. What happened in her past is staying firmly in her past, but has she really dealt and moved on, or is her current modus operandi a security blanket that just masks her pain? Has she really dealt and moved on?Nadine goes on a road trip with her best friend and this means fresh meat for Nadine! A get away from it all holiday is just what these two need to unwind and let go. It is while on this trip that Nadine and Rory bump into another group, they all hang around together and this is where Nadine meets Spencer.“And what I want is every inch of you covered in me. I want you to remember me…you will remember me”Spencer was totally and utterly adorable; he was lawyer and could see right through Nadine. He knew that she was hiding something and he wanted to prove to her that she was capable of so much more. She didn’t need to be the person she was portraying; she just needed to be Nadine. Spencer was just perfect, as I said above adorable, charming, cute, interesting and at times hilarious. He manages to worm his way in with Nadine, he treads cautiously and they soon become firm friends, sharing private moments, their pasts, their secrets he manages to totally open her up.“I don’t think I’m going to survive you,” he whispered. “I don’t think you should keep starting something you won’t finish.” “I don’t think you know who the hell I am yet.” He grinned at me with challenging and confident eyes. “Likewise.”This is just a road trip though, a holiday…can what they found here be it for them? They each have their own lives ahead of them; they have their jobs and their own life. These two may just be the band aids that they both needed to make them see that what they were settling for was not enough, maybe they both need something more, maybe they both deserve something more and even (gasp!) they want something more. Maybe, just maybe it wasn’t their time, the stars are not aligned, and fate and destiny have other ideas.“…There is nothing more profound, nor will there ever be, than your place in the heart of the woman you love.”This is a story about finding yourself, growing up, second chance love and leaning to trust. Finding that person whom you trust completely and stripping yourself back to the bare bones. It is angsty, it is funny, you will laugh and you will cry but you will also fall in love with a bunch of characters that will steal your heart. It is a page turner, fast paced and will keep you captivated from start to finish and if you are anything like me, you will want more! To me their story is just beginning, I have had the appetiser and the main course, now I want the dessert.“Kiss me goodbye, Nadine , and go hit all your levels. Go take over and do all the s*** you were meant to. Just know it’s okay to trust and get hurt, or you aren’t living at all.”I didn't want this one to end and I still WANT MORE!! Another book where it ends when their journey is really just beginning...please Kate write MORE!!! I loved this book from start to finish, seriously addictive writing, intense chemistry and a unique story that will ensure you will be left like me, just wanting MORE. I LOVED Spencer and Nadine, destiny and fate were being cussed throughout this book, you couldn't help but will them to be together. My only slight niggle, is there are a few typo’s etc, but this is no way took away my enjoyment from reading this book.

Review: After reading The Mind & The Heart ( Reluctant Romantics1.5 & 2) I was pleased to learn that characters from Never Me featured in Book 2, so of course I just had to read Never Me and was happy that I did and now really love Spencer & Nadine, both in their book NM & their cameo in The Heart. I am only sorry that after reading all the Titles in the Whitaker Family Women falling in love, Room 212 & The Fall ( Reluctant Romantics 1), I have now come to the end. Kate Stewart is a 5 Star writer for me!

Review: Did it have the angst , hurt , jealousy , pain and emotion of her masterpieces The Bittersweet Symphony or The Ravenhood Trilogy … No …. but those 2 series are in a Universe all of their own. This story however was a great read. Nadine oozes confidence we’d all like a touch of and her best friend is the epitome of Best Friend… A stable rock & honest truthteller (even the hard stuff) all rolled into one. Spencer is every love interest we’d all like to meet every holiday , and together they make a gorgeous hot couple . The little friend posse they create seem like a bunch of fun . The story is intense , then slows down only to ultimately speed up. A really lovely story .

Review: I really enjoyed this book and have already downloaded Room 212 by this author. All of the characters were developed perfectly...I felt like I knew them, and vitally for me, I liked them. The story was well executed. it's a classic boy meets girl...soul mates who are destined to be together story, which isn't always a winner...it has to be written well and with feeling for it to work, and this one undoubtedly is :)If I tell you there's a road trip and New Orleans in there, with song references along the way, if you've read a certain book, you'll know what I mean when I say there were several similarities. Not that there's anything wrong with that, as the formula for that one worked as well, and this is by no means a poor man's copy, as it has it's own unique story, which kept me gripped.4.5 from me because it finished too abruptly and at 84%, which is a pet hate of mine.Wouldn't hesitate to recommend though...quality writing...fab! 🙂
