John Milton is a former assassin for the British government. He is a ronin, trying to atone for his past sins by offering his services to those people who have no-one else to whom they can turn.
Milton is keeping a low profile in London when he meets Eddie Fabian. Fabian confesses that he is considering suicide, and that the reason for his depression was the abuse that he suffered as a child. Milton offers to help, but, before he can, Eddie is found dead in circumstances that Milton considers suspicious. And then events take a turn that no-one could have anticipated…
Milton’s attempted good deed becomes a quest to unveil corruption at the highest levels of government and murder at the dark heart of the criminal underworld. Milton is pulled back into the game, and that’s going to have serious consequences for everyone who crosses his path.
Prepare yourself for another hair-raising, heart-pounding adventure from the new master of the thriller. With over one million downloads and thousands of five star reviews, if you haven’t read Mark Dawson yet, what are you waiting for?

Title: Steps #8 & #9 - âMake a List of the People Youâve Hurt and Then Make Amendsâ
Review: Criminals from every walk of life, paedophilia, cancer, Englandâs National Health Service. What do they all have in common? Things that hurt people? John Milton has a lot of challenges in âThe Ninth Stepâ. He is back in England working at an unusual place, when he hears a story from another member of Alcoholics Anonymous, that sets him on another course of violence. Itâs hard to keep track of the number of people Milton kills or helps in this storyline!John Milton is a fabulously complex character in some ways, and simple in others. He has skills and knowledge from being a warrior and an assassin for his government, but he is âretiredâ now. He doesnât need or desire money or fame. He just wants to fight his alcoholism and help people who need him when he can. He doesnât believe he deserves a normal life or even thanks. Obviously, he cannot make amends to his over 100 victims. When he does get involved Milton has a profound effect on other lives. This is a complicated and detailed story that will take you on a crazy ride of enjoyment! Those familiar with England will love the descriptions of the towns and people and rain! This authorâs imagination and writing style are superb; every book in this series makes for an entertaining and engrossing read! I donât think it is necessary to read them in order.

Title: Entertaining, good stories
Review: So far I've enjoyed all eight of the John Milton series novels. Yes, after awhile, the hint of a formula becomes apparent, but the characters are interesting enough that I don't care and just keep reading. If you want to read just for enjoyable entertainment, this series is worth your time. It's certainly better than what's on tv and a nice way to just relax and read a good story.

Title: A physical and psychological ride!
Review: As a fan of Milton and Mark Dawson, this book is a joy because it is more than just a highly anticipated continuation of the series -- it is a great leap forward for both the character and the author. There are times when Dawson's writing approaches the lyrical of really good literature and when Milton's journey of self-discovery engage the reader in a far deeper fashion than is common in "adventure" stories. This is -- flat out -- a damn good book on many levels. Good Story, good writing, good pace and good understanding of the characters motivation. It's one thing to write a "Shoot 'em up" -- and Dawson does that as well as anyone -- it's entirely something else to combine that with a deep investigation of a character who has become very complex indeed.Buy and read this book. You won't be sorry, but; be careful. Milton, like his drink, can be addictive.

Title: Mafia, Military and Milton -- Oh, My!
Review: This eighth outing in Dawson's John Milton series, to me, is his most personal. Retired assassin John Milton has returned to London, still working on his self-imposed redemption for his bloody past. He is continuing to work through the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous and, at one of the meetings, meets a fellow alcoholic, Eddie Fabian. Eddie is the adopted son of a British Mafia family and had an intensely troubled childhood before his adoption. He confides in Milton that he is working on the 9th of the 12 Steps, making amends, and asks Milton for support. When Eddie is found dead, Milton doubts that it was a suicide and begins a personal investigation. He is immediately drawn into two deadly conspiracies -- one involving a group of renegade ex-military men, the other involving Eddie's criminal family. Determined to finish Eddie's quest and finish making his amends for him, Milton devises a diabolically clever plan for justice. What follows is a wonderfully plotted, twisted tale that takes us further into to mind of John Milton than ever before. Each Milton novel exposes more of his inner core and humanity. He IS slowly climbing out of his pit of self-loathing, but each step comes at a cost. When will it be too much?If you have not read a John Milton novel yet, you are missing out on a great literary treat. Mark Dawson somehow manages to imbue his novels with briskly-drawn-but-believable characters in settings so evocatively described you feel you are there. Please, do yourself a favor and become one of John Milton's growing army of fans.

Title: ANOTHER GREAT READ
Review: I have read all of Mark Dawson's books! The John Milton series is the best in my opinion. The Ninth Step, his latest book is very good, well written and leaves you wanting more just like his other books. I am never disappointed when I read his books. He also offers his books at a VERY reasonable and affordable price, which is awesome. If you are looking for a series of books to read that are thrillers, intense, have intrigue and some mystery and great plots, you want to read Mark Dawson's books in the John Milton series. And when you are done with those, read all his stand alone novels and the Beatrix Rose series. They are great too! Thanks Mark Dawson for another great read and can't wait for the next book!!

Title: Prepare for a wild ride from beginning to end
Review: I absolutely loved this book. The story was phenomenal. You get to run with a lone assassin, special ops, and military operations. You suffer through greed, egotism, childhood terror and grief. But, you also get to experience friendship, honesty and trust ... I can go on. Mark Dawson is a master storyteller. You are hooked on the first page and the story doesn't let up until you read the final word. What is great about this book is that you don't need to read the previous ones. It stands alone as a wonderful, exciting story. Being familiar with the prior books would, of course, give you much more incite into why John Milton is a tormented soul and why he is so good at what he does, but regrets having to do. I highly recommend as a wonderful, entertaining, exciting adventure. I look forward to reading many more of his adventures.

Review: First, the confession - I am a Mark Dawson fan. And of all of his creations, John Milton is my favourite. Little surprise, then, that I heartily recommend this latest book to anyone who enjoys novels of the Reacher adventure style. But Milton is better than Reacher in that the action feels real, that it could actually happen. Milton is a reformed alcoholic, one time assassin, now just trying to live a quiet life and make amends as best he can for past deeds, an impossible task when those to whom he wishes to apologise are all dead. But he does his best and along the way makes occasional recompense by helping out others. This can, and does, lead to trouble...As well as an excellent story line and interesting protagonists, the strength of Dawson's writing lies in his masterful conveyance of atmosphere. With a paucity of description, he is able to paint the place as well as the tensions bringing it all vividly to life. This book is no exception. Well worth reading.

Review: The Flawed Hero Faces his Demons once again, and leaves one wondering - How Hard Must it Be?Every page of this latest work from Mr Dawson has something to smack you in the face. I am sure that anyone who has any inkling at all of the struggle with addiction of whatever kind, will be at times cringing and yet cheering for John Milton. Mark Dawson has nailed it yet again! Keep them coming, Please Mr D.
