There's the office: President of the United States. Then there's the man in the office—flesh-and-blood, prone to temptation, and looking to unwind after a long day running (or ruining) the country. Pulitzer Prize-winning author and data expert Walt Hickey explains the power of entertainment to change our biology, our beliefs, how we see ourselves, and how nations gain power. The best of the worst: these cartoons rejected by The New Yorker were deemed too dumb, too weird, or too naughty—but not for lack of laughs! From veteran true crime master Harold Schechter comes a unique look into the history of crime told through the dark objects left behind. Celebrate the significance, the magic, and the mojo of the world’s most seductive instrument. An obsessive, full-color book presented in an irresistible slipcase, Guitar features 200 instruments in stunning detail. Inspiring equal parts wonder and wanderlust, Atlas Obscura is a phenomenon of a travel book that shot to the top of bestseller lists when it was first published and changed the way we think about the world.

Joshua Jay, one of the world’s most accomplished magicians, reveals the artistry and obsessiveness, esoteric history, and long-whispered-about traditions of a subject shrouded in mystery. More than a random collection of facts, The Ultimate Book of Pub Trivia features over 300 rounds of ten-question quizzes. Each one is carefully curated to encourage a night of lively competition. Ride shotgun on a trip to space with astronaut Terry Virts, as he captures all the highs, lows, humor, and wonder of an experience few will ever know firsthand. An obsessive and curated collection of life's little irritations, injustices, grievances, and petty pretensions. Because it's about time someone wrote this stuff down. Celebrate one of the greatest and most beloved baseball players who ever lived—and certainly the most quoted. Looking back with fascination, horror, and not a little dash of dark, knowing humor, Quackery recounts the lively, at times unbelievable, history of medical misfires and malpractices.

Title: Definitive -- and fun!
Review: This is clearly designed and written to be the perfect "toilet" read, and I mean that as the highest possible compliment. It's the ideal gift for anyone who loves movies. The author manages to turn screenwriting into a hugely entertaining narrative journey through movie history. Abrams begins at "The Jazz Singer" and brings us to the present day, through iconic movie quotes and their origin stories.I loved the smart, lucid writing (informed by in-depth interviews and copious research) that offers a fresh and necessary perspective. As an example, Abrams cleverly (and correctly) notes that "I'm too old for this s***" from "Lethal Weapon" has become precisely the cliche it was intended to ridicule. I also appreciated the witty sidebars, such as the tight closeup on Goldie Hawn, well deserved. I might have chosen a different line from "Sweet Smell of Success" (how about "That's fish four days old, I won't buy it," Brian?) but quibbling is part of the fun.

Title: Not Just A Book of Movie Quotes
Review: You might think from the title that this is some kind of listicle-type chart blown up into a book-length work. But if you take a look at the range of Mr. Abrams other books (an oral history of Die Hard, an oral history of the Obama administration, et al), you should be tipped off that this is something different. Mr. Abrams gives cultural and historical context for the quotes and the movies they come from rather than just the standard movie-making trivia, making the case that these movies, quotes, and characters have a much larger impact on society than we might initially think. Of course this is a fun book too, but there is a lot going on in his choices of quotes, time periods, and historical events. I highly recommend his other books as well - Mr. Abrams is a deceptively crafty writer and cultural critic that will surprise you page after page.

Title: "You Can't Handle the Truth!" (A Few Good Men, 1992)
Review: Okay, so the truth is, this book is really, really worth adding to your collection! I was a bit peeved because one corner of the cover was damaged, including the top of the spine, but once I opened it I really liked what I saw. The movie quotes all appear in the Table of Contents, which is arranged in chronological order from the 1930's to 2018. Some of the quotes I recognized immediately, and some of the ones I never heard before made me want to go check out the movie for myself. The index featured at the back of the book makes it easy to look up actors and movie titles when you already have something in mind. I was content to just browse through the pages and be surprised. The book contains all sorts of interesting trivia about each movie, and some nice photos as well. I'm going to look into finding it in hardcover, because it would really make a cool gift. This paperback version is still attractive enough to put on your coffee table, and it will make a great conversation piece.I would definitely recommend this book. I took off a star because, unfortunately, you can judge a book by its cover. The cover on this one happens to be quite attractive, with bold, metallic silver lettering against a black background. I just wish it was in perfect condition.Lastly, to all my fellow movie buffs, "Say hello to my little friend!" (Scarface, 1983)

Title: Endlessly Entertaining
Review: "You Talkin' to Me?" is much more than meets the eye. The author clearly has a deep love of the process of moviemaking, plumbing the histories of each movie he covers and then some. This is not a book of factoids or empty list-making, it's a love letter to the people who crafted the stories that bore their way into our collective consciousness. A line of dialogue turns out to be the perfect entry-point into the world of cinema.A great read you'll keep coming back to. And a great gift for the movie lover in your life.

Title: “WAIT A MINUTE, WAIT A MINUTE! YOU AIN’T SEEN NOTHIN YET!”
Review: This book is not what one would expect with a list of movie quotes. It’s so much more! Abrams brilliant style of writing coupled with his genuine enthusiasm and passion for film, sets it apart from the others. I’m amazed by his thorough research of movie lines that have had an influence in our culture. The book is beautifully formatted for an entertaining read filled with history, photo stills, side bars, and rare behind the scenes information. I highly recommend this book!

Title: The sweet spot between interesting and effortless
Review: This is exactly what I hoped this would be - full of great stories and trivia that not only make it the perfect book to flip through at your leisure, but surprisingly coherent and compelling as a complete product, too.

Title: Uncut catnip for insatiable movie buffs
Review: The surprise treat here is that it’s not just the quotes. True, each dusts off and polishes up a timeless scriptwriter bull’s-eye, one of those wisecracks or weary witticisms that’ve become as embedded in our inner vocabulary as Shakespeare. But each quote is also the gateway to a trove of insider info and long-lost gossip of the kind that true film aficionados can’t get enough of. You will be surprised by what you learn … about Stanley Kubrick, about Al Pacino, Denzel Washington, and many more. And then there's "Ten Lines Everyone Should be Quoting in Ten Years," which ought to kick off a competition. Hours of delicious fun.
