One minute Lou is happily employed, with a perfect flat. The next, her home and job have gone. Suddenly she has to start over.
The last thing Lou wants is to move to a tiny Cotswolds village. She certainly doesn't intend to work for curmudgeonly eighty-year-old Edgar Allsopp. But Edgar is about to make her the kind of promise nobody could ignore. In return, she secretly vows to help him fall in love with life again.
Foxwell is also home to Remy, whose charm and charisma are proving hard to ignore. But Lou hasn't recovered from the last time she fell for a charmer. She needs a distraction - and luckily one's about to turn up.
Secrets never stay hidden for long in Foxwell, nor are promises always kept. And no one could guess what lies ahead . . .

Title: Jill Mansell is a magical storyteller!
Review: Always a treat to read one of Jill Mansellâs stories. She starts with a single loveable character and gradually pulls in others, some to root for, some to dislike, some to wonder aboutâ¦all equally interesting.Promise Me features softhearted Lou agreeing to work as a live-in helper to elderly, cantankerous Edgar who doesnât like anyone or anything. How Lou cheerfully and subtly changes Edgarâs thinking is the heart of this story, and the chapter describing his eventual understanding of how heâs hurt himself and others is truly heartbreaking. As I see it, the story is about integrity - are we genuine? Are the words and reactions we present to others genuine or do we adjust who we are depending on who we are with or what it is we want from them? With humor, multiple love stories, even a cranky dog, Jill Mansell gifts her readers with another witty, wise and heartfelt book.

Title: Entertaining Comedy & Romance
Review: I am not the typical reader of chick-lit romance novels, Mansell's protagonists being of the other sex & with lives that appeal to female readers. However, Mansell's combination of likeable heroines, the vicissitudes of their romances, & scoops of slapstick comedy have led me to read a dozen or so of her novels. Her characterizations are good enough so that I can tell them apart, but there are the stock handsome men whom Laura finds irresistible, despite her history of bad judgement about the opposite sex. Which one of these devastating hunks might prefer our Laura to beautiful babes? Mansell juggles twists of plot in which all seems lost, until, presto, someone rights & refills the apple cart. Add a reclusive, rich old curmudgeon & a homeless Chihuahua who distrusts, if not detests humans, & the result is a tasty, bracing tea, English style.

Title: One Clever Twist Made it Worth Reading
Review: Basically predictable English village feel-good story with lots of 2 dimensional characters. One little event changed the trajectory and added a bit of a surprise. Recommend as a quick read if you have some spare time.

Title: Sweet
Review: But.... the story line started out great, but became too predictable with the loss of the catalyst character. A dull ending
