A U.S. Marine's brush with death leads him to the love of his life in this New York Times bestseller of destiny, luck, and the redemptive power of romance.
After U.S. Marine Logan Thibault finds a photograph of a smiling young woman buried in the dirt during his tour of duty in Iraq, he experiences a sudden streak of luck -- winning poker games and even surviving deadly combat. Only his best friend, Victor, seems to have an explanation for his good fortune: the photograph -- his lucky charm.

Back home in Colorado, Thibault can't seem to get the woman in the photograph out of his mind and he sets out on a journey across the country to find her. But Thibault is caught off guard by the strong attraction he feels for the woman he encounters in North Carolina - Elizabeth, a divorced mother -- and he keeps the story of the photo, and his luck, a secret. As he and Elizabeth embark upon a passionate love affair, his secret soon threatens to tear them apart -- destroying not only their love, but also their lives.

Filled with tender romance and terrific suspense, THE LUCKY ONE is an unforgettable story about the surprising paths our lives often take and the power of fate to guide us to true and everlasting love.

Title: Lucky to have read it!
Review: For me to truly love a book, I must first love the style of writing, the prose. And I absolutely loved Nicholas Sparks' storytelling in The Lucky One. I have only read one other Sparks' book, A Bend in the Road, which I also liked a lot, but The Lucky One is my favorite of the two. What I liked/loved most:*It is a great story. It may not be the most original storyline, but what makes it unique is the way Sparks tells this story. It is a story that I can relate to because it felt real, like something I could easily encounter or deal with in everyday life. I appreciated the sensitivity with which Sparks interweaves the story of war and its effects on the men and women who serve so faithfully. I was almost brought to tears, and when I am emotionally touched like that when reading, I know it's a good read.*I like the themes of luck, fate and destiny, which is central to the story. It made me grapple with my own understanding of and belief in the terms.*The characters seem real. I could relate to them. The developing relationship between Logan (Thibault)and Elizabeth (Beth)was plausible, and they had great chemistry. And the secondary characters fit the story perfectly. I loved the grandmother's (Nana)wit and wisdom. And I fell in love with Zeus, the faithful German shepherd. I even learned a little about dogs and kennels -- to the point of considering the adoption of my own dog! How's that for effective writing. What I found lacking -- for lack of a better term:*And this may be a spoiler, so SPOILER ALERT. In the end, during the fatal storm, I could not understand how Ben, a child, could struggle through the elements of the storm and make it to the tree house, when Beth, Logan, and Clayton had such difficulty. I also found this particular scene a bit drawn out and dramatic.*Nor did I quite understand the redemption of Clayton. It seemed a drastic change in his character to at one moment be threatening his ex-wife and the next sacrificing his own life to save his son -- a son whom he had never shown any great affection for in the story. I suppose as a reader, I am to take a leap -- to somehow believe that deep down in his soul, Clayton...well, had a soul and it revealed itself when most needed. And left a legacy for his son, Ben, that would transcend the lack of love he failed to show during his life. Well, at least that what I assume. But I wish Sparks had given me a glimpse of Clayton's goodness, so that I could believe such an conclusion.End of "possible" spoiler.Nevertheless, these minor "flaws" don't detract from my still considering this a good read, an excellent story and one that I would highly recommend. Last night I saw a trailer for an upcoming movie based on this book. I didn't know when I was reading that it would be a movie. Based on the the little I saw, I'm not sure if I want to see the movie, for it might not live up to what I've just finished reading. And I simply don't want to spoil the experience.

Title: A refreshing dramatic read.
Review: This book was extremely good. It's one those where you want to read "just one more page". But then you look at the clock and an hour has passed. Logan, Beth, Ben, Nana, Drake, & Clayton are great characters. The story line is amazing. And the ending, I was not expecting that! Great book!

Title: I love reading this
Review: This book is quite nice and it kept me interested to go on with my reading.I usually don't read books that are so dramatic or on the boring side but the way Sparks wrote the story, while having a fairly plain characters, is not boring at all that kept me interested until i finished the book.If you read the preview story, you will get a 'stalker' kind of love story but it is not. A man finds a picture of a lady whom his best buddy believed to be his lucky charm. When he finally gets out of their complicated situation, he walked miles and miles just to find this girl to thank her for saving his life only to find himself falling in love with her.I like the character of Logan Thibault (t-bow) , the character who walked from Colorado to Hampton to find his lucky girl, because he is a very kind person but knows how to fight for himself and for people he loves by being a witty and wise person in his strategies to address the issues surrounding their lives (including Beth's and Ben).Keith is also a very good villain in this story because you become irritated with his behavior making you dislike this person so much. He is a brat from the start as being part of the first family of their town makes him all the more arrogant and conceited.Beth, the book's damsel in distress, two thumbs up for this woman, she races Ben on her own, helps her grandmother and teaches in their local school. She's independent but still needed someone to share her life with. While bullied, in a way, by her ex-husband, she's strong enough to fight for the man she loves. The only thing I disliked in this book was the fact that someone died in the end making it a short cut for Sparks to end the story. While I like this book, i kept thinking of how the story was told in the movie where Efron and Schilling played the roles of Thibault and Beth, respectively, i found the two mediums told the story differently. But don't get me wrong, both are wonderful and maintained the plot. However, the movie, of course created lines that are unbelievably sweet and romantic. While the book on the other hand had complex lines but had simple meanings about appreciating life.

Review: I've just finished reading this story and loved it. I warn you though, that you may not like the first chapter. If it was an unknown author I'd have stopped there and it would be my loss. Sparks has written a wonderful story of magic, love and redemption. And it has a HEA!
