Stop the yelling, lose the guilt, and become a calmer, happier parent.
Drawing on evidence-based practices, here is an insight-packed and tip-filled plan for how to stop the parental meltdowns. Its compassionate, pragmatic approach will help listeners feel less ashamed and more empowered to get their, ahem, act together instead of losing it.
“Using a powerful combination of humor and reality checks, Naumburg helps parents unpack their unique stressors (we all have them) and find ways to stay calm even the most frustrating of family moments.” (Katie Hurley, LCSW, author of No More Mean Girls and The Happy Kid Handbook)
“By the end not only are you laughing out loud, but you’ve gained a sense of self-compassion and a concrete action plan.” (Rebecca Schrag Hershberg, PhD, author of The Tantrum Survival Guide)

Title: An Excellent Guide For Parents Who Might Lose Their Sh*t on Occasion
Review: I bought this book in the 9th month of the pandemic after blowing up at my 16-year-old son for his falling school grades. I rarely "lose my sh*t," but the combination of stressors and worries was too much for me. And having a blow-up with a teenager (especially one that is an excellent debater) is...well, let's call it counter-productive.Enter "How to Stop Losing Your Sh*t with Your Kids." I read it cover to cover, and it offered really solid advice for me at this time of heightened anxiety and challenging child-rearing.This book is about mindfulness, and also offers specific and actionable advice on how you can put on your brakes when you are approaching your point of no return. It is actually aimed at parents of younger kids, but it was helpful for me, as a parent of a teenager because if there was ever a time when keeping your cool is important, it's when your kid reaches their teens. Chapter 9, on reconnecting with your kid, is very solid advice for parents of teens because even if you aren't blowing up, you know your child will, and reconnecting after those ruptures is sometimes the most challenging thing.Carla Naumburg's humor and her generosity in sharing her own moments of losing it really makes this book an easy read. That being said, I give it four stars instead of five because it does at times feel like it is repeating its advice over and over again, which can become a bit tiring. I wouldn't keep that small quibble from me recommending this book to other struggling parents especially those facing challenging conditions like we've all been facing over the past few months.

Title: If you only read one parenting book, this should be it.
Review: And really you could replace "kids" with "loved ones" and it would be just as accurate and helpful. You never know when you're actually dealing with someone's inner child. This book alone might be enough for some folks, and for everyone else it's the starting place to figure out where to go next or where you need more support. It's funny and not too dense but touches on the critical topics so you have the language you need to pursue more information.

Title: Good book
Review: Seems like solid advise and expectations. I'm glad I read and hope I can implement well. It does repeat some info but that's kinda to be expected in self help books I feel, alot less than some I have read for sure.

Title: Refrshing Insight and Actionable Strategies
Review: I LOVED this book. I tried reading another book about parenting a challenging child and it was long, the strategies weren't really conducive to real life and it put a lot of the onus on the child, which, as this author says, is problematic since relying on a five year old who doesn't have a developed prefrontal cortex to behave well enough to keep you sane is a terrible idea.I went into the book thinking it was going to have tips for getting my kids to listen, but the book focuses on parents themselves, which turned out to be exactly what I needed. The author is so spot on with her idea that we can't control our child's behavior, and we can only control our reaction to it. The concept of waiting until you're calm to mete out life lessons or discipline is much more effective. I loved that all of the strategies for getting your sh*t together are doable and mostly free. The book is short and the tone is conversational, humorous and compassionate. It was surprisingly fun and easy to read. I feel like less of a horrible parent and, so far, the author's strategies and advice have been successful. Obviously, it's an ongoing process but I'm incredibly grateful I found this book and would recommend it to any parent, regardless of your child or situation.

Title: Men raise kids too - Too "You go girl" for me (and probably most men)
Review: There is some useful info here but sadly, like so many authors in this space, this writer doesn't seem to think men have any involvement in raising kids as this clearly written for and to women.

Review: Amazing! I only just started reading itm and it's like talking to a real person. She writes as if though she's having a face to face conversation. Within the 1st page I was already connecting to it. In always freaking out while my husband is always calm. She gives amazing advice and doesn't beat around the bush. Nore does she use stupid long words that no one knows the meaning of. Its easy to read, relatable, fun and all around very well put together and written.

Review: This book is light-hearted and funny. A wonderful companion to remind yourself of all the things you probably already know, but need the gentle reminders. It was a quick and easy read and I will be keeping it as a guide/highlighted for quick reference, especially while in a dark moment along this parenting journey!

Review: The book criticises other parenting books for being too "blah blah" as parents do not have time for long books and so on, but this book is no less "blah". Author tries to be funny, but, FOR MY TASTE, she does not succed. I find language in the book disrespectful for kids.I liked how the author organises information. That is important to me, i cannot stand chaotic books - this one is very well organised!
