Title: Great overview of acoustic guitar.
Review: So far I'm only through the finger picking portion, and it's been great, especially after having finished the Hal Leonard Method books 1-3. Making it easier to read the standard notation. The sections are a bit small but I feel my acoustic guitar has improved dramatically after using this book. Each section is about 3-4 pages long, with sections for strumming, fingerpicking, using a capo, etc. providing an overview of what can be done on the acoustic guitar. Also, there are riffs from well known songs along with the regular examples.I would definitely recommend this book, if you want to get into acoustic guitar playing, and have gone through the basics.

Title: Great beginner book
Review: I received my guitar lesson book within just a few days from placing my order. I have been doing the small practices it introduces and I am beginning to feel a bit better about playing and not making a fool of myself. This is the first time I have put this much effort into learning to play guitar and it is fun. The book is very informative and takes steps to ensure you feel comfortable with yourself and your guitar.

Title: Introduces new techniques to allow a guitarist to improve and expand their knowledge
Review: "The Hal Leonard Acoustic Guitar Method" is a really good book for guitarist who want to learn different techniques to improve their playing. It covers basic strumming styles, finger picking, flatpicking, Blues slides, alternative tuning, and explains capo use.The book includes many very helpful exercises with each section, and ends each chapter with a tabs and sheet music for popular songs. Riffs and intros for other songs are also included.NOTE: This book is for people who already know the basic of how to play, and I believe it's intended for the intermediate/advanced level. Not a good choice for newbies.I was disappointed that the CD didn't include more of the riffs from the book, but still think it's a nice learning tool.

Title: Good, but difficult
Review: I consider myself an intermediate-beginner guitar. I can read music well and I have been playing for about 6 months now. I am able to play all the songs in the Hal Leonard Guitar Method Books 1, 2 and 3, but This book is pretty difficult for me. It will take a good amount of practice to get down just a few songs. This is a great book but I would recommend it for more for the advanced-beginner or intermediate player, not a beginner.

Title: easy guitar
Review: This book really gets down to basics. I have been playing for some time but never recieved any formal training. My teacher uses this book for every lesson and it is very helpful. It has greatly improved my strumming patterns and I am learning how to read music, finally! tabs are great but learning the notes really opens up the music world. Have fun!!

Title: Recommend A Little Later
Review: i tried this book out as my first lesson book. i agree with most that you should check out true beginner books before this one. i feel that it is a very good book, just for the advanced beginner. go with the hal leonard guitar method course first and then use this as a supplement. best of luck

Title: Misleading Title But Moderately Useful
Review: Billed as a "Complete Guide with Step-by-Step Lessons and 45 Great Acoustic Songs," this book is not anything like a complete guide to acoustic guitar techniques, nor does it offer 45 songs. As opposed to being a complete guide, this slim volume offers a little bit of basic info on strumming patterns, fingerpicking techniques, uses for a capo, alternate tunings, slide use, etc.As to the supposed 45 songs: only 7 songs are tabbed in full; the rest are actually just riffs or chord progressions--with little or no instructional material specifically pertaining to them. Many of the riffs and progressions are not even featured on the accompanying disc.Of which, the 7 full songs are recorded as full-band tracks (minus vocals) at normal speed; there are no isolated acoustic guitar parts or slow versions. In other words, they aren't much good for helping you pick out the nuances. Song choice is problematic, too: "Name" is a fine tune, but why offer a song that requires restringing your guitar to accommodate a very unusual altered tuning? Why not offer a tune in the more common open G, for example?Despite all these substantial flaws, there are bits and pieces of useful information to be gleaned for beginning and intermediate guitarists. Just don't expect too much. It's best to think of this volume as a seven-song tab book that also includes brief orientations to complex topics better treated in depth elsewhere.

Review: ..definitely very good for getting acoustic guitar working better in your hands. Well selected exercises and songs (I realy like "Angie" closing the whole list). You will practice finger picking and using a pick. This book and "Fingerstyle Guitar Method" (by the same author) should be considered as desired continuation after going through "Guitar Methods- Complete Edition".
