(Essential Elements Ukulele). Playing the ukulele is an enjoyable, easy, and inexpensive way to get involved in music. It provides a way to learn musical concepts and skills that can apply to any instrument you decide to study. Moreover, it will give you a great opportunity to share the joy of making music with other people. This book will help to provide you with the basic skills and musical background you need to get started. The online audio contains demonstrations of all the songs and examples available for download or streaming using the access code printed inside the book. This carefully crafted method emphasizes chord strumming skills; teaching students HOW to practice; note reading exercises; "chord challenges" to learn how to figure out chord progressions; tab reading; and more. It also includes nearly 30 familiar songs that students can play while still learning, including: All My Loving * Home on the Range * Hound Dog * Jambalaya (On the Bayou) * La Bamba * The Lion Sleeps Tonight * The Rainbow Connection * Take Me Out to the Ballgame * and more! Practice, experiment, and have fun playing the ukulele! Named "The Best Ukulele Method for Beginners" by Wirecutter: "... Essential Elements for Ukulele Book 1 emerged as our clear favorite. Surprisingly, it's one of the few books that start out by explaining chordal playing instead of single-note playing and playing chords is what almost all beginners really want to do on uke, since that gets them directly into playing songs. We like that Essential Elements for Ukulele includes some useful, unintimidating lessons on music theory, and that it offers chord and strum charts in the back..."

Review: This is one of the most clear and concise method book I’ve ever experienced. It covers just about everything you need to know about tab, chords, reading music all in an easy to understand format.

Title: A solid book to take a beginner to advanced pmayer
Review: I have this and the "Ukulele Method" book 1 and like this one much better. It starts off with strumming so knowing 2, 3 basic chords you can play something enjoyable. It talks about reading notes and playing individual notes. All other Ukulele books are so basic you can just go on YouTube and hit out a few songs. But this really takes you from beginner and if you practice enough the content takes you to playing advanced songs. There's also practice methods which many books skip out.For reading music notes I like how you can play a few songs just knowing a handful of notes. It makes you feel like you're learning and confident to push on.It's a jam packed book and once you go through it you can just get song books.

Title: Excellent
Review: I’m a music teacher (20+ years) and I’m very picky when it comes to method books. I sent a different one back. This one teaches a combination of chords, strumming patterns and note reading as well as a bit of tab. I’ve mostly used the chords and strumming patterns. I like the selection of songs for middle schoolers. There’s an online accompaniment to go with the exercises and songs. My 7th and 8th graders have really enjoyed it.

Title: Good for absolute beginners
Review: I bought this but probably should’ve gotten 2nd edition. I recommend getting 2nd edition if you already have knowledge on music theory

Title: Great
Review: This is a great book but I never used it. That’s on Mexico I love this brand and when I learned other instruments I would use this brand and it’s great for beginner and people trying to teach themselves.

Title: Great book
Review: After trying to teach myself how to play the ukulele for a couple of months, I decided to pick up this book. At first I thought that it was too basic. But about a third of the way in to the lessons, I realized the techniques being taught were essential to learning. The techniques are presented in a thoughtful and methodical way so even an advanced music learner is bored, but is mastering the basics of the ukulele. Some skills, like finger picking, I thought I would never master, have improved greatly. The book teaches chords, strumming techniques, and finger picking notes.

Title: Very well done beginner book
Review: I use this book for teaching private lessons, and it has a great variety of chords and Melody. And also does a good job of teaching music reading in a tiered form. I think it could be a little challenging to use for someone who doesn't know anything about music without guidance, but with that being said this is my go-to book for beginning students.

Title: Good mix of chords, strum patterns and single notes
Review: I like that it because it is more than chords - I struggle with strum patterns and this does a nice job of teaching them and then adding then to familiar songs. I think the single note practice is helpful to creating better sounding chords.

Review: The book is an excellent starting to new ukulele lovers. It would have much better if right hand picking fingering also mentioned. As these is a beginer material the students are expected to use thump for picking through out these book.
