Title: This is not for you if you are a beginner
Review: Nice compilation of scales, chords, and jazz theory. Excellent reference and with a few exercises as well.I wanted to put in a good review for this book bc some reviews criticize it unfairly. This is not for you if you donât have a foundation in jazz and jazz guitar. You need a good teacher to make the best use of it unless you have enough experience.Prerequisites would include knowing some chord progressions, knowing how to read a lead sheet, and knowing something about chord substitutions.Iâm an intermediate guitar player and a former horn player but a jazz guitar beginner. I find this book very useful. For instance, I use this book when Iâm trying to learn a standard and want to find some good chords that donât sound lame.

Title: Great jazz guide and teaching tool
Review: Started taking jazz lessons during this pandemic and instructor had me get this book. It is a touch piece of work learning jazz, but the book, as with most Hal Leonard texts, gets you the highlights and gives you guidance. Takes time, but worth the effort.

Title: right book at the right time
Review: good step by step walk-through of essential chords, progressions etc needed to explore jazz guitar. I'm using it with a teacher who used it when he was learning. the illustrations and other graphics are clear. I'll probably buy the next in the series when it's time.

Title: Demanding but Rewarding
Review: I'm about three months into this book. I can't see the horizon but I'm enjoying the journey. This is not an instruction book for beginners but it will reward serious study by intermediate guitarists.

Title: Well structured, easy to follow
Review: Clear and easy to follow. Yet a lot of content and concepts. I tried a few jazz guitar book, but this is the only one that explains things that other books assume you absorb through osmosis. How to read a lead sheet, what type of jazz guitar playing these is, who some important players are, etc.

Review: A very clear and well-organized text, that get's a beginner or intermediate (in this style) going through many of the specifics of playing "Jazz" on the guitar, and dives right in with good examples in chord progressions, solos and the styles of various important artists. It does this while providing small yet beautiful nuggets of information that make understanding these examples possible and worthwhile. It is to be treated as a very good introduction book or one that someone picks up after some years of messing around trying to play jazz on the guitar (along with listening to Jazz music). Not really for the advanced Jazz Guitarist
