Title: The best, so far
Review: I bought this book on the recommendation of a friend. I'm not sorry I did. If you follow the exercises and examples in this book, it will take you from a novice to an expert player rather quickly. It all depends on what you put into it but this guide is a great substitute for a good teacher. Keep in mind that nothing can effectively replace a good teacher but this is an acceptable substitute. Highly recommended! Great value! Plus it comes with a DVD demonstrating some of the instructions in the book. Kudos to Guitar World for also supplying an e-book version of the book. Not sure of the content of that but if it's like the book, you could save a few $ by going that route.

Title: Not for Kindle Fire HD
Review: I have the print edition and just got the kindle version thru Kindle Matchbook deal. Print is a very good instruction book but Kindle is almost unreadable.Pages overlap and there is a red box that overlays text. Format issue I guess.

Title: divine intervention!
Review: being a new student to the guitar,i approached the quest just like anything else that i`m serious about,i searched, and researched.part of which includes subscribing to various magazines, which led me to Guitar World!didnt take long to realize that the folks who put out that mag, knew what the hell they were talking about!so of course i was extremely excited when i found out that they had gotton together to write the best instruction book ever.i dont know enuff about anything to say that this book is indeed the best there is,but,my playing HAS improved, and the format is easy for a layman such as myself to understand,so far.this book is HEAVY,telling me that every aspect of the learning process has been addressed.i`m quite convinced that i can reach a level of skill that satisfies me using this book.

Title: Note: This book has more than the magazine edition
Review: So far I'm giving it 5 stars, even though I've just started using it. Based on having watched the accompanying DVD, if I get through the book and can play the exercises like the guy on the DVD does, I'll be quite happy with my guitar skills.NOTE: From looking at this, one might think that the only differences between this and the softcover magazine-format "The Best Instruction GUIDE Ever!" that one can find at various bookstores for $14.99 or via Guitar World online are: 1) this book is hardcover (which is easier to lay open flat), and 2) this book has an accompanying DVD. What is not stated is that this hardcover edition (the "Book" not the "Guide") has 3 additional chapters, chapters 20-22. Use the Look Inside! feature here to see the contents of those chapters in the Contents pages. So by all means get this hardcover + DVD edition. I actually bought the softcover magazine version as well, as it's easier to carry with me when taking my Traveler Guitar EG-2 Electric Travel Guitar, Black, which I also got from Amazon.

Title: Good book, wrong format
Review: the information in the book is good, but it doesn't work on a Kindle ereader. I normally enjoy reading books on the kindle, but this one doesn't work on the digital format. The book is largely charts and graphics, which are great for learning guitar concepts, but they show up too small on the Kindle. No color, doesn't fit all on a single screen, and if it does, it's too small to read. The book may well be worth while to buy, but get the analog version - it's easier to sit and noodle with your guitar with real pages to turn, in any event.

Title: Guitar Instruction
Review: I have dabbled in guitar for many years. Never had the mid-life crisis so I never had the urge to be a "rock-star" maybe in another life I'll get a chance. Working through this book and having some fun. Great book to start someone on. My take, it leans a little toward the rock side but is very flexible in application. If you are an accomplished musician, this probably isn't the book for you. For a level-headed beginner - this is a great place to earn some calluses on your finger-tips!!

Title: Major Formatting Problem on Kindle
Review: The actual contents of the book seems fair enough, it has plenty of great images and tips and seems to layout lessons in a logical way. However, some of the content is illegible due to formatting problems. This includes a red square in the upper left hand corner clipping over text, white colored text on a white background and the artist tips, one of the coolest features I was looking forward to are completely illegible. Kindle buyer should know that as it stands, you can't read or enjoy the full book.

Title: My Buddy Loves It
Review: Got this book for my buddy who moved away and I no longer could give lessons to. He's an older beginner and this book makes things simple enough for even the "Old Dog" to learn with. The only thing is this book expects you to already know basics.

Review: At the ripe old age of 58 my husband is learning to play the guitar, I was tired of watching him play the air guitar so...thought here is an opportunity to give him a hobby to take into retirement. It has helped him alot.

Title:
Review: This is a very good instructional book. I am a guitar teacher, so use it for that. But if you were trying to learn guitar, I would highly recommend it. It suffers from the same problem as any other book of its type, insofar as there are no recognisable pieces in it, so you will have to supplement it with songs. That said if you approach it with the correct attitude It will give most of the techniques you require to play the guitar to a reasonable level.
