(Percussion). Welcome to the ISMS series, a drum method dedicated to and built around the famous Bruce Lee quote: "I fear not the person who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the person who has practiced one kick 10,000 times." For the purposes of this series, the quote has been modified as follows: "I fear not the MUSICIAN who has practiced 10,000 LICKS once, but I fear the MUSICIAN who has practiced one LICK 10,000 times." Philly-ISM , the second book in Tim's ISMS series, is a unique analyses of Philly Joe Jones' "rudimental" approach to soloing. More specifically, it's a deep dive into Philly's use of the paradiddle. With Philly-ISM , you will: * Learn how Philly Joe utilized the paradiddle sticking and its variations in his solos * Study 18 Philly solos from legendary recordings * Permutate, orchestrate, and subdivide the ISM * Analyze nine additional Philly trademark phrases * Learn to sing and solo using your ISM over real song forms * Absorb the ISM and create your own variations! Includes over one hour of instructional video lessons demonstrating exercises and concepts from this book. Spiral-bound.

Title: So good I bought 2!
Review: I first saw Tim play with GA20 in Boston's Brighton Music Hall a couple of years ago and was blown away by his shuffle feel and overall solo vibe. I was lucky enough to meet and get to know Tim through the private sale of a Ludwig Maple Classic kit. The more I follow Tim, the more I learn about drums and the better drummer I become. Tim's videos and books are an invaluable resource for drummers who want to understand the musicality of their instrument - not just learn linear blast beats and gospel chops. If you're a drummer who wants to approach the art of drumming with feel and purpose, this is the book for you. I bought a 2nd book to give to one of my young drum students. I only wish I had this book when I was his age because I'd be a better drummer today for having it. Thank you Tim!

Title: Too bad this book didn't existed when I went to music school
Review: Have you gone to school, drop money and time only to find out that they haven't taught you all they should have and then you find out on your own something so primordial and necessary for your instrument that they should have taught you at the school were you drop tons of $ for your education? Well, Tim Carman has done it in what it's, in my opinion, the best drum book ever on Philly Joe Jones. The detailed approach and examples of how to apply them. This is the best drum book I have encounter in a while. I see an improvement on my soloing just by studying this book alone. Highly recommend it. if I could give it 20 stars I would
