The Doobie Brothers' career is best be divided into two camps. The band originally started out as a good-time party band, as their name implies, churning out a string of rock hits like "Jesus Is Just Alright," "Take Me in Your Arms," and "Black Water." The guitar intro to "China Grove" is a rock classic, lending itself to every bar band in the world. There was something infectious about the early hits--strong melodies, great harmonies, and a genre-bending beat lifted the songs above the ordinary. That rollicking, rocking edge was all but abandoned when Michael McDonald joined. McDonald brought an urban, white-funk feel to the band, as best exemplified by "It Keeps You Runnin'" and "Takin' It to the Streets." Best of The Doobies draws more heavily upon the hits before his arrival, which, to many, should make the collection almost perfect. --Steve Gdula

Title: CD Plastic case had damage
Review: The CD case had five broken retainer teeth inside, but the CD played well. The outer CD case was not damaged, so it doesn't look like shipping damage. Those broken teeth must have occured at point-of-origin. Without those retainer teeth, the CD 'slips around' inside of the case, so I need a new case for the CD.

Title: Quality of product
Review: The LP arrived and was in great condition including the inner sleeve which was awesome. It had printed information including a coupon for an album of ânewâ music but miscellaneous artists that had never been heard before. Shipping happened very quickly. I will definitely order from this company again.

Review: This compilation album was released in November 1976 and reached number 5 on the Billboard album charts. There are no tracks on the album from their debut album. The tracks start from their second album in 1972 up to Taking It To The Streets in 1976.The first track is China Grove from The Captain And Me album in 1973. This was released as a single and reached number 15 with a vocal by Tom Johnston. The second track is also from this album and has a vocal by Tom Johnston. This was released as a single in 1973 and reached number 8 on the chart. The third track features the new guy - Michael McDonald on vocals and keyboards on the storming Takin' It To The Streets. There is one other track from this album here- It Keeps You Runnin' - again with a lead vocal by Mike McDonald. Both of these tracks were released as singles. The fourth track Listen To The Music is from their second album Toulouse Street released in 1972. This was also a single release reaching number 11 on the chart. There are two other tracks from Toulouse Street - Rockin' Down The Highway and Jesus Is Just Alright. The latter has a vocal by Pat Simmons. The fifth track is Black Water which is the only track here from the What Once Were Vices album. The vocal here is by Pat Simmons and this was their first number one singleThere is only one track from the Stampede album in 1975 which is my favourite album. Take Me In Your Arms, an old Mowtown song was a hit single for them reaching number 11 in 1975. This is a pounding version of the Kim Weston original with a lead vocal by Tom Johnston. This album is very good value with a running time of 45 minutes. If you like the early Doobie Brothers sound this is a great place to start listening.

Review: Canât fault this CD, it was second hand, from a well known supplier, not a mark on it and plays perfectly, came super quick too. Would highly recommend the supplier for used albums or discs. They obviously spend a bit of time inspecting these when they buy them in to see if they are acceptable for sale. This one certainly was. Very pleased, thanks.
