Title: the Best of what is out there, overall...but not perfect....
Review: there have been many reviews on the negatives of the various Steely Dan printed music publications, and this particular set has it's own flaws and faults also, HOWEVER: in general, I feel that this collection will give you the best shot at duplicating the quirky Steely Dan style, and be prepared to do additional research, readily available on YouTube, to round out your understanding of this music.Mastering the patented jazz voicings of Fagan is not easy, but this book gives you a great head start.

Title: Streamlined transcriptions
Review: The transcriptions in this book are pretty basic and it's helpful if you already have a good ear. The brass/wind parts are presented as reductions (meaning all parts share a single staff and appear as chords) so there's no way of knowing which voice belongs to which instrument (trumpet, tenor, alto, etc.). Deacon Blues does have a staff for tenor, however (properly transposed). The transcribed scores for the band Chicago (in two volumes) indicate individual instruments (trumpet, alto, tenor, trombone) which is more helpful. For guitar parts TAB is entirely missing. Pitch bends are generally left out. Again, it helps if you listen to the recordings the catch the many subtleties that are difficult to capture in standard notation. The piano part for Reelin' In The Years is a little different from the studio track. All in all, if you are a Steely Dan fan you should get this volume.

Title: like Larry Carlton's punctuations throughout Deacon Blues
Review: Reasonably complete scores, with occasional omissions, like Larry Carlton's punctuations throughout Deacon Blues. But, at least you get the core elements of each arrangement.

Title: Little disappointed.
Review: I personally would have preferred tablature. Plus there are names of the chords with out any notation, so you will have to do some additional research to figure out the chords and voicing so. I probably would have looked for a different book.

Title: NOT WORTH IT!!!!
Review: Calling this a complete and accurate score is a real long shot. Missing key melodic parts, and a simplified harmonic analysis as well! An amateur and lazy publication at best, anyone with a good ear can transcribe a better one. I was hoping to avoid spending the time transcribing one of these tunes, but this book only offers the elements that you'd just initially get anyway. Save your money and skip this utter B.S.

Review: 表紙の画像を拡大すると、どんな楽譜かが分かると思います。充実の内容ではないでしょうか。Time Out of Mind は何とイントロから4小節で1ページ使ってます 。楽譜のページ数は120ページですが、この曲だけで22ページを占めています。逆にCDだと長いDo It Againは6ページ。

Review: Excellent book of transcriptions with accurate chords and condensed horn parts. A perfect place to start from if you are wanting to do arrangements of Dan songs.

Review: First of all, the point has to be made as to what these transcriptions are really for. If you’re thinking of using them to play along with the recordings, then forget it - there are far too many page turns to make that viable. These are for the musical purist, who obviously is into Steely Dan and has a curiosity about how these wonderful songs were constructed. They would also be interesting for a musical student who is learning about notation and music theory. There are errors in some of the songs, mainly repeat structure based stuff like 'DS al coda' sign returns being in the wrong place, but I have a habit of highlighting repeat and Coda signs with a coloured pen - which makes following the structure much simpler. This prevented a 5 star rating as the editors should have picked these anomalies up prior to printing. In conclusion, I would rate this as more of a reference/study publication rather than something for practical musical usage. All in all, not a bad purchase.
